Bollywood Dance Classes

Full-wattage filmi routines blending classical Indian technique, bhangra energy and hip-hop attack — the most joyful hour on our timetable.

Every class is taught by a working professional. Choose your city for the local class page: venue, day, time and how to book your first session.

Your First Bollywood Class

Warm-up to a banger

Class opens with a high-energy warm-up to a chart filmi track — expect to be grinning before the technique even starts.

Hands, face, footwork

Bollywood's magic is in the details: expressive hands drawn from classical mudras, storytelling faces, and footwork borrowed from bhangra and garba.

The film routine

The heart of class is a routine to a hit song, built section by section — big formations, bigger finish, camera-ready by the final week.

What Is Bollywood Dance?

Bollywood dance is the choreography of the Hindi film industry — a magpie style that borrows from everywhere Indian cinema does: kathak spins and bharatanatyam hands, Punjabi bhangra shoulders, Gujarati garba circles, plus whatever hip-hop, jazz or Latin flavour this year's soundtracks demand.

That mix is the point. A single film number can move from classical grace to street-dance attack in eight counts, which makes classes gloriously varied: expressive storytelling one minute, cardio the next. No Indian dance background is needed — the routines teach you their own vocabulary as you go.

The UK scene is one of the world's liveliest outside India, powered by film releases, university societies and the sangeet — the pre-wedding party where choreographed family routines are practically mandatory. A good number of our students first walk in because a cousin's wedding demanded it, and stay for years.

Classic Filmi

The golden-age film style — expressive hands, storytelling faces and choruses built for a hundred dancers.

Bhangra

The Punjabi harvest dance behind Bollywood's biggest drops — shoulders, hops and stamina for days.

Classical Fusion

Kathak- and bharatanatyam-inspired sections — spins, footwork bells and precise hand geometry.

Bollywood Hip-Hop

The modern soundtrack style: filmi hooks stacked on street dance foundations.

Garba & Folk Flavours

Circle and stick dance influences that surface every festival season.

Sangeet Routines

Wedding-party choreography for families and friends — our most-booked private Bollywood format.

Bollywood Facts Worth Repeating

The biggest cinema on earth

India produces more films than any other country — well over a thousand a year — and nearly every one of them dances.

The songs come first

Film soundtracks release before the movies and chart on their own — the routines you learn are attached to genuine hit records.

It has an Oscar

'Jai Ho' from Slumdog Millionaire took the 2009 Academy Award for Best Original Song — and its dance went round the world.

The sangeet is a dance show

At British-Asian weddings, choreographed family routines at the sangeet are practically compulsory — half our private Bollywood bookings start there.

Bollywood Questions, Answered

Do I need an Indian dance background?

No — most of our students start with none. Routines teach their own vocabulary, and the expressive style is far more forgiving than it looks on screen.

What music do you use?

Current filmi chart hits alongside the classics — routines rotate with the release calendar, so the playlist stays fresh.

Can you choreograph our sangeet or wedding routine?

Yes — private group sessions for families and wedding parties are our most popular Bollywood booking. Tell us the song and the date and we will build it.

Is it good exercise?

Deceptively brilliant. Between bhangra shoulders and full-chorus routines, an hour of Bollywood is proper cardio wearing a big grin.
