Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–8 min

Warm-up, filmi style

Bounces, grapevines and shoulder pops to a warm-up track that refuses to behave like a warm-up — the energy level is set here and never really drops.

8–22 min

Hands and face

The expressive top layer first: classic hand gestures, the head slide, and the permission to perform — because in Bollywood the storytelling is the technique.

22–40 min

The routine, block by block

This month's film track taught in short blocks — eight counts at a time, each repeated to music before the next arrives, so nobody is ever more than eight counts behind.

40–54 min

Full-song run-throughs

The blocks chained and danced through with the volume up — the sweatiest, loudest, most photographed section of the hour.

54–60 min

Cool-down and encore

A slower stretch, and then — by popular demand, almost always — one last run of the chorus before anyone is allowed to leave.

About Bollywood Classes in Cambridge

Bollywood dance is Indian cinema's greatest export: a fusion of classical and folk Indian styles with hip-hop, jazz and whatever else the choreographer fancied that week, all in service of pure spectacle. Our Cambridge classes teach real film choreography — the actual routines, scaled for real people — with the storytelling hands and expressions that make the style unmistakable.

You need no background in the films, no Hindi, and no dance experience: enthusiasm is the entire entry requirement. Each month the class works through one song from the canon, old or new, and by the final week the room performs it end to end. It is, by some distance, the most smiled-through hour on our timetable.

£8 a class, water bottle strongly advised, dignity cheerfully negotiable.

Why Choose Bollywood in Cambridge?

Real film choreography

Routines are drawn from actual Bollywood numbers, classic and current — you leave knowing dances that hundreds of millions of people would recognise.

Cardio that lies about it

A full-energy Bollywood hour burns like a gym class while feeling like a party — the fitness arrives entirely by stealth.

Expression included

The hands, eyes and drama are taught alongside the steps — the storytelling layer most dance classes skip is the heart of this one.

£8 all-in

Classes are £8 each with nothing to sign and nothing to buy — come weekly for the full routine or drop in whenever the mood strikes.

Your Bollywood Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

01

Full volume from day one

The style clicks

Bounce, shoulders and hands come together within the first sessions — Bollywood is generous like that, rewarding commitment over polish immediately.

Your first chorus

By the end of week one you own a chorus that plays at every South Asian wedding you'll ever attend. Deploy wisely.

02

A song per month

The canon opens

Golden-age classics, 90s hits and this year's chart-toppers rotate monthly — each track bringing its own flavour of the style.

Stamina compounds

Full-song run-throughs get easier without anyone noticing the fitness being built underneath them.

03

Precision joins the party

Sharper lines

Angles, timing and synchronised group sections tighten — the difference between dancing along and performing becomes visible.

Character work

Playful, romantic, heroic, villainous — you learn to switch register the way the films do, mid-song and without apology.

04

Occasions find you

Wedding-floor ready

Sangeet nights, receptions and family parties stop being spectator events — regulars become the people others copy.

The repertoire effect

A year in, you carry a dozen routines — a private jukebox of choreography that starts playing whenever the right track comes on.

Bollywood in Cambridge FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Where in Cambridge do the Bollywood classes run? +

At a studio toward the station and Mill Road side of town — fittingly, the most internationally flavoured corner of Cambridge. The exact venue is confirmed at booking.

What's the price? +

£8 per class, flat, paid as you go — no term blocks, no memberships, no hidden costume budget.

I've never seen a Bollywood film. Does that matter? +

Not in the slightest — plenty of the room arrives the same way. The choreography, the music and the joy need no subtitles, and any context worth having gets a one-line introduction with each new song.

Do I need dance experience? +

No — routines are taught eight counts at a time with every block repeated to music before the next one arrives. The style is famously forgiving: energy reads better than precision, and energy can't be taught wrong.

How fit do I need to be? +

Come as you are — the intensity is real but self-regulating, since you can dance any section at your own scale. Most people find their stamina rises to meet the class within a few weeks.

What music will we dance to? +

The breadth of the catalogue — golden-age numbers, 90s blockbusters and current chart hits, changing monthly so the class never settles into one era.

What should I wear? +

Trainers and anything you'd wear to an energetic gym class. Some regulars add a dupatta or jingling anklets for fun, but nothing beyond comfortable clothes is ever required.

Is the class adults-only? +

It's built for adults, with teens welcome alongside a participating parent or guardian — the choreography and music are family-friendly throughout.

When do Cambridge Bollywood classes begin? +

The timetable is opening now — leave your details through the contact page or call 07759 656300 and you'll hear the confirmed slot for Bollywood as soon as it's fixed.
