Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
High-Energy Warm-Up
A proper warm-up set to a film track — get the shoulders, hips and wrists moving, because Bollywood asks all of them for something inside the first minute.
Hands, Feet & Expression
Break down the building blocks: the classical hand gestures, the bhangra footwork and the eye-and-face work that carries half the meaning of any Bollywood number.
Learning the Routine
Build this week's choreography in short blocks, set to a real song, looping each section until it sticks — pared back and punchy, ready to perform inside a few weeks.
Formations & Performance
Add the group formations and the big finish, learning to dance as a unit and sell the number to an imaginary back row.
Full Run & Cool-Down
Dance the whole routine through at full tilt a couple of times, then cool the shoulders and legs down — the chorus tends to catch up with everyone right here.
About Bollywood Classes in Leeds
Bollywood borrows a bit of everything — the elegant hand shapes of classical Indian dance, the shoulder bounce of bhangra, a splash of hip-hop swagger and full-blown filmi romance — then cranks the colour past the maximum. Our Bollywood dance classes in Leeds teach real routines to current chart soundtracks, expressions and drama included. You barely notice the workout; the fun is impossible to miss.
Leeds takes to it easily. This is a young, mixed city with four universities and a real appetite for a big night out, and Bollywood surfaces at student showcases, community events and every wedding sangeet in between. Learn a number here and there is usually a floor waiting for it before long.
Classes run at partner studios around Kirkgate and the city centre, the venue arriving in your inbox once you book. Plenty of dancers come to polish a sangeet routine and just as many come for the cardio and the songs — and we take sangeet sessions out to venues right across West Yorkshire, from Bradford and Wakefield to Huddersfield, wherever the family is gathering.

Why Choose Bollywood in Leeds?
Real Songs, Real Routines
You dance to the real thing — current chart hits and the sangeet anthems every guest already knows — not some anonymous Bollywood-ish backing track that goes nowhere.
Joy Is the Point
The whole style runs on it — big moves, faces turned all the way up and a soundtrack that refuses to sit still. Nobody has yet left this class quietly.
Sangeet Specialists
Putting a number together for a wedding or sangeet? Send us the song and the date, and a mix of group and private sessions across West Yorkshire will get the family sharp.
£8 a Class
Eight pounds per class, out in the open here — pay as you go, no membership, no strings. Block rates follow once the studio's weekly slot is fixed.
Your Bollywood Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Your First Routine
Getting Started
You are learning a genuine routine by the end of lesson one — stripped back, loud and stage-ready within a month. Bollywood has no slow build-up; it reaches over and hits play.
What to Wear
Leggings or joggers, a t-shirt you are happy to sweat through, and supportive trainers. Fill your water bottle before you arrive — no class drains one faster than this.
The Expression Clicks
Faces On
The hand gestures and facial work go from faintly mortifying to utterly essential — in a filmi number that expression is doing half the storytelling.
Fitness Follows
A whole track no longer leaves you gasping, and the second chorus that used to finish you off around the midpoint loses its bite.
Broadening Out
More Styles
Delicate classical hand-shapes one week, thumping bhangra the next, romantic filmi the week after — the range of movement you pick up is wider than anyone expects.
Picking Up Speed
Picking up new steps gets quicker, and a string of counts that once needed grinding out becomes a single phrase you just ride.
A Performer
Where You Are
You are dancing longer numbers now, holding your place in the formations and catching the fine detail — the true jump from swaying at the back to owning the front row.
What Comes Next
Stealing the spotlight at a cousin's wedding sangeet, a slot in a student showcase, or just a weekly hour you would not trade for anything.
Bollywood in Leeds FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Where in Leeds are the Bollywood classes held? +
At partner studios around Kirkgate and the city centre, with the venue confirmed by email once you book. Both are a few minutes from the train station and the main bus routes, so the whole of Leeds can reach class without needing to drive.
How much does a Bollywood class in Leeds cost? +
It is eight pounds per drop-in, printed openly here — you pay session by session, no membership, nothing to sign. Cheaper block rates kick in once your local studio has locked a fixed weekly evening into place.
Can I do Bollywood with no dance background? +
You will do more than cope. The choreography comes in bite-sized pieces you repeat until they lodge, the class is cheerfully unbothered about mistakes, and keenness papers over the rest. On any beginner night, nearly everyone around you is learning their first number as well.
What should I wear to a Bollywood class? +
Gym kit you can really move in and trainers with support — the hour works up a proper sweat. If you fancy, throw on a dupatta or something that jingles for the atmosphere, but honestly the only thing that matters is wearing clothes you do not mind soaking.
Do I need to know Bollywood films? +
No knowledge required. The teacher tells you what each track is about so the facial expressions land, and the steps carry the story by themselves anyway. Lots of dancers here discover the films because of the class, not before it.
Is Bollywood the same as bhangra? +
Linked, but different. Bhangra is a folk dance from the Punjab with a distinctive shoulder bounce, driven by the big dhol drum; Bollywood is film choreography that pinches from everything around it, bhangra included. That folk energy turns up regularly, so you get a taste of each.
Can you teach our wedding sangeet routine? +
Absolutely — it is some of our favourite work to take on. Give us the song and the wedding date and we will plan a series of group or private sessions at your venue, anywhere across West Yorkshire from Bradford to Huddersfield, so everyone is ready to shine on the day.
What songs will we dance to? +
Film playback songs from right across the eras — vintage golden-age hits through to the soundtracks topping the charts this year, the big screen anthems. Every routine comes paired with its own track, and we always welcome a request.
Do you run Bollywood classes for children? +
Yes — we run age-grouped classes for children and teens with DBS-checked teachers, alongside the adult sessions. It makes a wonderful first style for a child: tuneful, full of energy and impossible to stay shy in. Add your child's age to the enquiry form and we will sort the right group.
