Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 min

Charge it up

We start with an upbeat warm-up that loosens the wrists, shoulders and hips, because Bollywood asks a lot of the arms and we want them awake and ready.

10–24 min

The signature hands

We learn the expressive hand and wrist shapes that give Bollywood its look, drilled slowly on their own before they ever meet any footwork.

24–38 min

Feet and bounce

A bouncy, grounded step pattern goes underneath the hands; we build it in small pieces so the rhythm sits in your legs while your arms tell the story up top.

38–50 min

Putting arms on feet

Now we stack the hands onto the steps, the moment beginners find trickiest and the most fun, taken slowly until the two halves move together.

50–60 min

Perform the number

We run the pieces as a short routine to a real Bollywood track, full of expression and energy, so you finish having danced a proper number rather than drilled fragments.

About Bollywood Classes in Preston

Bollywood dance is the exuberant fusion you see in Indian cinema — classical Indian movement, folk steps like bhangra and garba, and modern pop all thrown together into big, joyful, story-telling routines. Our Preston beginners' class teaches it the way it is meant to be felt: high on energy and expression, low on pressure, with the steps broken down slowly enough that anyone can pick them up.

Preston is a proudly diverse city with deep South Asian roots, and Bollywood dance is woven right through that community — from wedding celebrations to Diwali and Vaisakhi. Our room welcomes everyone, whether you grew up with these films or are meeting the style for the first time. It is also brilliant cardio in disguise: the smiles hide how hard your heart is working.

Classes run from our city-centre studio in the Fishergate and Friargate stretch, near the Flag Market and the bus station, with a second space on the Fulwood side. People join us from Cottam, Ribbleton, Penwortham and Bamber Bridge; the West Coast Main Line station keeps the centre easy to reach, and there is no tram to work around.

Joy first, always

Bollywood is built on expression and big smiles, so the hour flies by and you barely notice you have been exercising the whole time.

Cardio in disguise

You learn the expressive hand shapes that make Bollywood instantly recognisable, and they carry into every other dance you try.

Flat £8, pay on the night

One price, no membership and nothing to book ahead — turn up for a single week and decide whether it is your thing.

Your Bollywood Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

01

First few weeks

Hands that speak

The signature wrist and hand shapes stop feeling awkward and start flowing, giving your dancing its Bollywood stamp.

Finding the bounce

The grounded, springy footwork settles into your legs so it powers the routine rather than tiring you out.

02

Arms meet feet

Doing both at once

The tricky knack of moving hands and feet together clicks, and whole sequences suddenly hang together.

Facing out

You start dancing outward with expression rather than staring at your own feet, which is half of what makes it look good.

03

Building a number

Longer sequences

Short pieces link into a fuller routine with changes of direction and formation, the shape of a real film number.

Catching the music

You learn to hit the big beats and drops in the track so your energy rises and falls with the song.

04

Performing it

A full routine

You can dance a complete Bollywood number from memory, front to back, with the energy it deserves.

Ready for the occasion

The confidence carries to weddings, Diwali or Vaisakhi floors, where knowing a routine turns you from watcher into dancer.

Bollywood in Preston FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

How much is a class, and is there a contract? +

Each class is a flat £8 on the night. No membership, no block booking and no commitment beyond the week you turn up.

Do I need an Indian background or to know the films? +

Not at all. Everyone is welcome whether you grew up with Bollywood cinema or have never seen a single film — we teach every step from scratch and no knowledge is assumed.

What should I wear? +

Comfortable clothes you can move and sweat in, and trainers with a bit of grip. Bollywood is energetic, so bring water and dress for a workout.

Do I need dance experience? +

None. The beginners' class breaks everything down slowly, from the hand shapes to the footwork, so complete first-timers fit in easily.

Where in Preston does it run? +

Our studio is in the Fishergate and Friargate part of the city centre, near the Flag Market and the bus station, with a second space on the Fulwood side. The address is confirmed on booking.

How do I get there? +

Preston station is on the West Coast Main Line and a short walk from the centre, and the bus station is beside our city-centre room. There is no tram, so plan by bus, rail or car; central parking fills and closes early on Deepdale matchdays.

Is Bollywood a good workout? +

Very much so — the bounce, the pace and the arm work make it strong cardio, but the fun and the music mean it rarely feels like exercise while you are doing it.

What ages is it for? +

The class is aimed at adults, roughly 17 and up, with no upper limit. The energy suits all ages and everyone dances at their own pace.

How do I book my first class? +

Fill in the form on this page and we will reply with the current day, time and address so you can just come along.
