Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

First 10 min

Volume up

A big soundtrack number drives the warm-up — travelling steps and shoulder bounces that set the energy dial where it stays.

10–25 min

Filmi mechanics

Wrist rolls, the light bounce, shoulder work and the expressions — each broken down and drilled before joining the dance.

25–40 min

This week's hook

The signature step of a famous number, learned at half speed and wound up to film tempo.

40–50 min

Scene assembly

Hook, verses and formations combine into a proper production chunk, rotated so everyone samples the front row.

50–60 min

Action

The routine performed flat out to the full track — closing on the traditional freeze-frame, held while the room catches its breath and laughs.

About Bollywood Classes in Lincoln

Some classes teach steps; Bollywood teaches scenes. Filmi choreography — the dancing built for Hindi cinema — comes with expression hard-wired into the technique: the eyes, the eyebrows and the unashamed grin are as much a part of the vocabulary as the wrist rolls and shoulder bounces underneath them. It makes for the most openly joyful hour we run in Lincoln.

We will not pretend the city has a Bollywood heritage it does not — there is no local mela or filmi tradition to point at, just our instructor-led weekly hour, taught by choreographers who know the form properly. What Lincoln does supply is the audience: students, families and complete beginners who discover that hook steps were engineered for exactly them.

The class runs centrally on the Lower City side near the High Street, with private sessions — sangeets, parties, hen bookings — travelling across Lincoln and Lincolnshire. The routine changes in short blocks, so new joiners land softly any week of the year.

Why Choose Bollywood in Lincoln?

Expression is curriculum

The grin and the eyebrows are taught deliberately — self-consciousness rarely survives the first fifteen minutes.

Cardio in disguise

Big travelling choreography at film tempo is a genuine workout that never once announces itself as one.

Many styles, one class

Classical shapes, folk footwork, street energy and jazz staging all pass through filmi choreography — a sampler in every routine.

£8 drop-in, always

Flat price, short routine blocks, easy joining at any week — commitment measured in enthusiasm only.

Your Bollywood Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

01

Switched on

The bounce underneath

That constant light lift stops needing attention and starts powering everything above it.

Hands and feet agree

Wrist rolls land on the beat with the steps instead of a moment behind them.

02

Playing the part

The face dances too

Expression comes off the bench — resisted briefly, then never surrendered again.

Story in the steps

Filmi numbers narrate their songs, and you learn to act the scene you are dancing.

03

Up to speed

Film tempo, survived

Routines reach the pace of the actual track — a fitness and memory milestone at once.

The group becomes a cast

Lines, canons and formation swaps make twelve people read as a production number.

04

Screen-ready

Whole numbers held

Full-track choreography with transitions — freeze-frame ending earned, not just struck.

Every celebration covered

Weddings, sangeets and parties gain their designated floor-starter: you.

Bollywood in Lincoln FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Do I need to know Hindi films to join? +

No — the choreography carries all the context needed, and the joy translates instantly. A soundtrack playlist habit tends to develop within a few weeks regardless.

How much is the Lincoln class? +

£8 flat each session, no block required. Routines run in short cycles designed so newcomers can start any week.

Bollywood or bhangra — which is this? +

Bollywood: film choreography from Hindi cinema, which borrows widely from classical, folk and street styles. Bhangra is a distinct Punjabi folk tradition we respect too much to blur into it.

Where does the class run? +

Central Lincoln, Lower City side near the High Street — flat access from the station, exact venue confirmed at booking. Private sessions travel countywide.

What should I wear and bring? +

Breathable clothes, clean trainers and water — this is one of the sweatier hours. Bangles and colour are welcomed, never required.

Is it beginner-friendly, really? +

Hook steps were invented so entire cinema audiences could copy them — beginner-friendliness is their design brief. We teach at half speed first, always.

Can children join? +

The weekly hour is for adults (16 up), but private family and celebration bookings across Lincolnshire happily span all ages — tell us who is coming.

Can we book Bollywood for a hen party or celebration in Lincoln? +

Yes — filmi routines are celebration-native. Private group sessions run at your venue or a hired studio with a flat group price; see our Lincoln Bollywood hen page.

How do I book a first session? +

The enquiry form — name and contact is plenty. We reply inside a working day with the next class details and directions.
