Warm Up With the Volume On
A film track plays from the first second while we warm shoulders, wrists, neck and hips together. Bollywood uses every one of them, so none gets to stay cold for long around here.
Pull It Apart
We break the style into pieces — the mudra-style hands from classical Indian dance, the springy footwork, and the face, where the eyes and brows carry as much of the story as the steps below them do.
Learn the Number
Then we build the week's routine a phrase at a time over a real song, drilling each phrase until it holds. The numbers are bold and stage-ready, so within weeks you have something you could genuinely perform.
Shapes and the Big Finish
Group formations and the finale come next. You learn to hit shapes as a unit and to play outward to an imaginary crowd at the back wall, because half of Bollywood is pure showing off.
Full Speed, Then Cool
We run the whole routine flat out once or twice — usually when everyone remembers how much cardio has been hiding in the fun — then bring the legs and shoulders down with a stretch.
About Bollywood Classes in Bradford
Bollywood dance is a magnificent thief. It lifts the expressive hands of classical Indian dance, the romance of the film song, the swagger of street and the drive of folk, and cranks the colour to the ceiling. Bradford's Bollywood classes teach real routines set to the film tracks in the charts right now — drama, beaming faces, storytelling and all. The workout stays completely hidden under the joy.
Few British cities suit this style better. Bradford has taken the Curry Capital of Britain crown again and again, home to one of the country's biggest and longest-settled South Asian communities, and its 2025 turn as UK City of Culture built a whole South Asian strand into the year — club nights, the retold tale of the city's secret daytime parties, a rebuilt migration-era tailor's shop. Cartwright Hall up in Lister Park holds a permanent South Asian art collection. This dance is at home here.
Classes run at partner studios in the centre and up toward Manningham, the venue sent the moment you book. Everyone is welcome — every level, mixed groups, no experience and no need to know the films first. Some come to nail a wedding sangeet; as many come purely for the songs and the sweat. We take sangeet sessions out across the district too — Shipley, Bingley, Keighley and into Wharfedale — wherever the family gathers.

Why Choose Bollywood in Bradford?
Real Songs, Real Routines
It is all danced to the genuine article — this year's chart hits and the sangeet standards every guest already knows — never some faceless Bollywood-flavoured loop that goes nowhere.
The Curry Capital's Home Style
This is Bradford's own ground — Curry Capital of Britain many times over, a City of Culture that wove a whole South Asian strand through its 2025 year. You are learning a style the city lives beside daily.
Everybody's Welcome
Every level, every background, mixed groups, no experience assumed. Where some classes nearby run women-only or over-18s, ours simply asks you to turn up ready to grin and work up a sweat.
£8 a Class
It is £8 a class, out in the open here — turn up and pay, no membership, no commitment. Block rates drop once your studio settles a regular weekly evening.
Your Bollywood Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Straight In
No Warm-Up Week
You will dance a real routine before the first lesson ends — trimmed down, but the actual thing, and stage-ready inside a month. Bollywood does not ease you in; it hits play and pulls you along.
What to Wear
Joggers or leggings, a t-shirt you can soak, trainers with some support. Bring a full water bottle — nothing we run empties one faster than this.
The Face Lands
Expressions On
The hands and facial acting move from mildly embarrassing to non-negotiable — in a film number your face tells as much of the story as your feet do.
Fitness Sneaks In
A whole song without gasping is suddenly doable, and the second chorus that used to end you stops being any kind of problem.
Widening Out
More Range
Delicate classical gestures one week, high-energy folk footwork the next, tender film romance after — a broader spread of movement than anyone expects walking in.
Faster Pick-Up
New steps land quicker, and a passage that once needed grinding out beat by beat now arrives as one phrase you move straight through.
Out Front
Where You've Got To
Longer numbers, your spot held in the group shapes, the fine detail caught — the real leap from swaying shyly at the back to owning a place on the front row.
What's Next
Stealing a cousin's sangeet, a slot in a community or City-of-Culture showcase, or just an hour a week you would not swap.
Bollywood in Bradford FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Can I do Bollywood with no dance background at all? +
Easily. Routines come in small, repeatable chunks that lodge in the memory, a mistake gets a laugh not a wince, and enthusiasm covers the rest. On a beginners' night nearly everyone near you is learning their first routine too.
Is the class only for South Asian dancers, or only women? +
Neither. It is wide open — every background, every gender, mixed and at all levels. Some Bradford classes are women-only or over-18s, which suits who they are for; ours is the come-one-come-all option, so just say who is joining on the form.
Do I need to love Bollywood films? +
Not remotely. The teacher explains what each song is about so the expressions make sense, and the choreography tells its own story regardless. Some people here meet the films through the class rather than the other way round.
Is this classical Indian dance, folk, or film? +
Film choreography that raids all three. A number pulls in classical gesture, folk footwork, a little street and a lot of big-screen romance, then sets it to a soundtrack. You will feel each influence, but the film styling is the glue.
Where do the Bradford classes run? +
At partner studios around the centre and up toward Manningham, confirmed by email once you book. Both Forster Square and the Interchange are close, and central parking is easy if you would rather drive.
What should I bring to wear? +
Gym kit you can really move in and supportive trainers — you will sweat properly. Want some flair? A dupatta or anything that jingles works, but all that truly matters is clothing you are happy to soak.
Will you choreograph our wedding sangeet? +
Gladly — it is some of our favourite work. Send the song and the date and we will set up a run of group or private sessions at your venue, anywhere across the district and into the valleys, so the whole party shines on the day.
How much is a Bollywood class in Bradford? +
Every drop-in is £8, stated openly on this page — pay as you go, no membership, nothing to sign. Lower block rates begin once your nearest studio locks a regular weekly night.
What songs will we dance to? +
Playback numbers from right across the decades — golden-age classics through to this year's chart-toppers. Each routine gets its own song, and a request is always welcome.
