Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Music On, Warm Up
A film number is already playing before you have even settled, and we loosen the shoulders, wrists, neck and hips to it. This style leans on all of them, so nothing gets left cold for long.
Pulling the Style Apart
We separate Bollywood into its parts — the classical-style hand shapes, the bouncy folk-tinged footwork, and the face, where the eyes and eyebrows carry every bit as much meaning as the feet do.
Learning This Week's Routine
Piece by piece we lay down the routine over a full track, drilling each section until it stays put. The numbers are big and made for a stage, so within a few weeks you have something worth showing.
Formations and the Finish
Group shapes and the closing sequence follow. You practise snapping into position as a unit and projecting out to an imaginary audience at the far wall, because a good half of Bollywood is unashamed showing off.
Everything at Pace, Then Down
We take the whole routine at full speed a couple of times — usually the point at which the class discovers how much of a workout has been lurking inside the fun — before winding the legs and shoulders down with a stretch.
About Bollywood Classes in Manchester
Bollywood dance cheerfully takes a bit of everything — the storytelling hands of classical Indian dance, the ache of the film ballad, the cheek of street styles, the punch of folk — and paints the lot in the brightest colours it can find. In Manchester we teach real routines built on the film tracks topping the charts today, all the drama and grins and story intact, with the fact that you are exercising kept well out of sight.
Not many cities suit it as well. Manchester holds one of the biggest and longest-established South Asian communities in Britain, and Rusholme's Curry Mile — the tightest cluster of South Asian restaurants anywhere in the country, strung along Wilmslow Road — is its dazzling, noisy centre. Throw in Chinatown and a vast international student body and you get a city that rubs shoulders with this music daily. The style is thoroughly at home.
We teach at partner studios around the centre and heading south toward Rusholme, with the venue sent as soon as you book, a short hop from Piccadilly and the tram. All are welcome — any level, any mix of people, no experience wanted and no film knowledge assumed. Plenty come to master a wedding sangeet, and we will bring those sessions out across Greater Manchester — Salford, Stockport, Oldham, Trafford — to wherever the family is gathering.

Why Choose Bollywood in Manchester?
Genuine Tracks, Proper Routines
Everything is danced to the actual songs — the current chart numbers and the sangeet staples every guest already knows by heart — rather than some faceless Bollywood-style backing that leads nowhere in particular.
Right by the Curry Mile
This is home turf for the style in Manchester — Rusholme's Curry Mile, a large and deeply rooted South Asian community, a city that lives alongside the music. You are picking up a dance the place knows well.
The Door Is Open to All
Any level, any background, groups of every mix, and no experience taken for granted. Come along ready to smile and to sweat, and let us know who is joining when you fill in the form.
£8, Simple as That
A drop-in costs £8, written plainly here — you settle up on the night, with no membership behind it and nothing to put your name to. When your local studio locks in a weekly evening, a block of classes works out cheaper.
Your Bollywood Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
In at the Deep End
No Gentle Introduction
Before your first class finishes you will have danced a genuine routine — pared back, certainly, but the real article, and ready for a stage within a month. Bollywood does not tiptoe; it presses play and hauls you straight in.
What to Put On
Joggers or leggings and a t-shirt you do not mind drenching, plus supportive trainers. Pack a full water bottle — nothing else on our timetable gets through one quicker.
The Face Comes Alive
Acting It Out
The hand gestures and the facial work shift from slightly mortifying to indispensable; in a film routine your expression tells as much of the story as your legs do.
Stamina Builds
Getting through an entire song without gulping for air becomes normal, and that second chorus which used to wipe you out quietly stops being an issue.
Broadening Out
A Wider Vocabulary
Fine classical gestures one week, driving folk footwork the next, soft film romance the week after — far more variety of movement than most people bargain for on the way in.
Faster to Learn
Fresh steps stick sooner, and a run that once had to be chiselled out beat by beat now shows up as one phrase you simply move through.
Front and Centre
How Far You Come
Longer numbers, your position secure within the group shapes, the small details landing — the genuine leap from tucking yourself into the back line to carrying the front.
What Follows
Pinching the show at a cousin's sangeet, a place in a community performance, or just a weekly hour you would defend against anything.
Bollywood in Manchester FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Can I do Bollywood with no dance background whatsoever? +
Easily. The routines arrive in small, repeatable chunks that lodge in the memory, a slip earns a laugh rather than a grimace, and sheer enthusiasm carries the rest. On a beginners' night almost everyone beside you is learning their first routine as well.
Is the class only for South Asian dancers, or only for women? +
Neither. It is wide open — every background, every gender, all mixed together and at every level. Simply tell us who is coming along on the form and we will steer you to the session that fits.
Do I need to be a fan of Bollywood films? +
Not at all. The teacher talks through what each song is about so the expressions make sense, and the choreography carries its own story regardless. Some people here come to the films through the dancing rather than the other way round.
Is this classical Indian dance, folk, or film? +
Film choreography that borrows from all three. A single number gathers up classical gesture, folk footwork, a touch of street and a lot of big-screen romance, then sets it to a soundtrack. You will sense each influence, though the film styling is what binds it together.
Whereabouts in Manchester do the classes run? +
At partner studios around the city centre and out toward Rusholme, confirmed by email once you book. Piccadilly and the Metrolink are close, and if you would sooner drive, central parking is manageable.
What should I wear and bring? +
Gym kit you can genuinely move in and supportive trainers, because you will sweat properly. Want a bit of flair? A dupatta or anything with a jingle to it works nicely — but the only thing that really matters is clothing you are happy to soak.
Will you choreograph our wedding sangeet? +
Gladly — it is some of the work we enjoy most. Send over the song and the date and we will arrange a run of group or private sessions at your venue, anywhere across Greater Manchester, so the whole party looks the part on the day.
How much is a Bollywood class in Manchester? +
Every drop-in is £8, stated openly here — you pay as you go, with no membership and nothing to sign. Reduced block rates kick in once your nearest studio settles on a regular weekly night.
What songs will we be dancing to? +
Playback numbers spanning the decades — golden-age classics right through to this year's chart-toppers. Each routine is set to its own track, and if you have a request, it is always welcome.
