How Your 80s Party Runs

Arrival and a big-hair warm-up

Your choreographer meets you at a partner studio or your accommodation, gets the playlist rolling and warms everyone up with some very easy, very 80s grapevines. Nerves are gone within ten minutes.

Learn the throwback routine

The routine is built around the bride's favourite 80s tracks and taught in short, repeatable sections — a bit of Wham!, a bit of Madonna, plenty of fist pumps and shoulder rolls everyone can manage.

The filmed finale

Run the whole thing top to bottom, film it on your phones, then argue about who went the wrong way at the key change. Plenty of groups resurrect the routine at the wedding reception.

Why an 80s Hen Party?

An 80s theme is the great unifier. The bride knows the songs, her best friends know the songs, and — crucially — her mum and future mother-in-law know the songs. When the hen list spans three generations, a routine built on 80s pop is the one theme that gets everybody off the sofa at exactly the same moment, no persuading required.

The vibe is joy over precision: grapevines, shoulder shimmies, fist pumps and the occasional dramatic slow-motion hair flick. Your choreographer builds the routine around the decade's biggest floor-fillers — think Wham!, Madonna and Cyndi Lauper — and teaches it in short sections that complete beginners can follow. Add legwarmers, neon and a crimped fringe, and the photos essentially take themselves.

Britain owned the 80s. Live Aid packed Wembley Stadium in July 1985 in front of an estimated 1.5 billion television viewers, Top of the Pops was appointment viewing, and four decades on, 80s club nights still fill dancefloors in every UK city. That staying power is precisely why this theme never books quietly in summer — the decade simply refuses to retire.

If the bride's mum is on the hen list, this is the theme. Everyone knows every word.

Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go

Wham! at their most caffeinated — jump-jitterbug energy and the easiest arm moves of the whole decade.

Girls Just Want to Have Fun

Cyndi Lauper's 1983 anthem is practically the hen party mission statement. Big, bouncy and impossible to get wrong.

Flashdance... What a Feeling

Irene Cara's Oscar winner brings the legwarmer drama — running on the spot has never felt so cinematic.

Into the Groove

Madonna's 1985 club classic, made for sassy walks, hip rolls and pretending the studio is a New York dancefloor.

Never Gonna Give You Up

Rick Astley's side-step shuffle is the most quietly achievable choreography of the decade. The group rickrolls itself.

Footloose

Kenny Loggins' 1984 title track for the finale — heel digs, claps and one glorious group freeze for the camera.

80s Facts Worth Repeating

Live Aid, 13 July 1985

Wembley Stadium hosted around 72,000 fans while an estimated 1.5 billion people watched on television worldwide.

Wham! made history in China

In April 1985, Wham! became the first Western pop act to perform in China, playing Beijing's Workers' Stadium.

MTV launched in 1981

The first music video ever aired on MTV was Video Killed the Radio Star — by British act The Buggles.

The aerobics boom was real

Jane Fonda's 1982 Workout became one of the best-selling home videos ever made, putting legwarmers and leotards everywhere.

80s Questions, Answered

How much does an 80s hen party dance class cost?

One flat rate for the whole group: from £140 plus venue hire for a one-hour class, or £165 plus venue for ninety minutes. Six hens or twenty-six, the price never moves — no per-person maths, no penalty when someone drops out.

Can the choreographer come to our accommodation?

Yes. In every city we cover, the choreographer can come to your hotel, Airbnb or hired hall — or you can use one of our partner studios. Groups staying together for the weekend usually pick the come-to-you option.

Do you supply the legwarmers and neon?

No — props and costumes aren't supplied, and honestly the group chat has more fun sorting them. Legwarmers, sweatbands, neon tutus and crimped hair all photograph brilliantly, but the class works just as well in leggings and trainers.

Can we mix the 80s with another decade?

Absolutely. Plenty of groups blend 80s and 90s tracks into one routine, or split the hour between two themes. Tell us the bride's favourites when you book and your choreographer will build the mash-up.
