Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0:00

Arrive and warm up

Grab a space, get your trainers on and shake out with a lively warm-up. Bollywood is high-energy, so we get the heart going and the shoulders loose before anything else.

0:10

Hands and expression

We drill the wrists, the hand gestures and the eyes — the details that make Bollywood expressive rather than just energetic. This is where the storytelling lives.

0:25

The bhangra bounce

We build the springy footwork and shoulder-led bounce that powers so many film numbers, so you feel the lift and joy that runs underneath the choreography.

0:40

Learn a combination

We put steps, arms and expression together into a short piece of a real film-song routine, breaking it down count by count until it flows.

0:55

Run it full-out

We play the track from the top and dance the routine as a group, full energy, big smiles — so you leave having performed it, not just learned it.

About Bollywood Classes in Bournemouth

Bollywood is the exuberant dance language of Hindi cinema — a glorious fusion where classical Indian forms meet Punjabi bhangra, folk traditions and modern pop, all wrapped in the storytelling of the big screen. It is danced with the whole body: bright, bouncing footwork, expressive hands and eyes that carry the meaning of the song, and big, beaming group formations. It is as much about performance and feeling as it is about steps, which is exactly what makes it such a joy to learn.

Bournemouth is a lively, diverse seaside town with a large student population around the Lansdowne and a real appetite for colour and celebration, yet a bright, welcoming drop-in Bollywood class near the centre has been surprisingly hard to find. Our Bollywood classes in Bournemouth put that right, teaching genuine routines set to the film songs everyone recognises, with the expression and the hand gestures that make Bollywood look and feel like the real thing rather than a watered-down aerobics version.

Sessions are drop-in at a flat £8, and there is no experience required — just trainers you can bounce around in and a willingness to smile while you dance. The big group energy makes it a brilliant one for friends, birthdays and hen parties, and we come to you across Bournemouth and the Dorset coast for private groups whenever a room full of people wants to learn a routine together.

Why Choose Bollywood in Bournemouth?

Cardio you forget you're doing

The bounce and energy give you a proper workout, but you are having far too much fun with the music to notice you are getting fit.

Expression and confidence

Bollywood asks you to perform, so it quietly builds the kind of stage confidence and big-smile presence that carries into everything else.

Flat £8 drop-in

One flat £8 a session, no membership and no block booking. Come and try a single week — there is nothing to sign up for.

Made for groups

The big formations and beaming energy make it a fantastic choice for friends, birthdays and hen parties who want to learn something joyful together.

Your Bollywood Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

01

Your first eight-count

Week one

You will pick up a short combination of steps and hand gestures set to a film song. It comes together faster than you expect, and the grin arrives about halfway through.

What clicks

You realise the hands and face are doing as much as the feet. The moment you commit to the expression instead of hiding it, the whole thing lights up.

02

A full verse

Weeks two to four

The short combinations join into a longer routine, and we add the bhangra footwork and formation changes so you are covering the floor and dancing with the group.

Dancing the story

You start matching your energy and expression to what the song is actually saying, so the routine looks like a performance rather than a sequence of moves.

03

Performing it

The confidence run

By now you can dance a whole film-song routine full-out with a room of people, in time and in character. That is a genuine buzz, and it shows.

Your own sparkle

We encourage your personality into it — a cheekier gesture, a bigger finish — so your Bollywood has its own flavour rather than copying the front row.

04

Going further

New routines

There is an endless supply of film songs to dance, so regulars keep learning fresh routines across classic and modern Bollywood, and never run out of new numbers.

Sharing the joy

Bollywood is infectious, so plenty of our dancers bring friends and family along, or book a group for a birthday or hen — which is how the class keeps growing.

Bollywood in Bournemouth FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

How fit do I need to be? +

Come as you are — Bollywood is energetic but we build the intensity gradually and you can pace yourself throughout. Most people find the fun carries them along, and they get fitter without ever feeling like they are at the gym.

Do I need to know the films or the songs? +

Not at all. We teach you the routines from scratch to songs you will probably recognise even if you have never watched the films, and knowing the movie makes no difference to how quickly you pick it up.

What does a class cost? +

A flat £8 per session, paid on the door. No membership, no course to buy up front and nothing to cancel — just come along on the weeks that suit you.

What should I wear? +

Comfortable clothes you can move and bounce in, and trainers with a bit of cushioning for the springy footwork. Bring water — Bollywood is a proper workout dressed up as a party.

Where in Bournemouth are the classes? +

Our central sessions run near the town centre around the Lansdowne and Old Christchurch Road, with a second option towards Westbourne. We confirm the exact studio when you enquire so you always know before you travel.

How is Bollywood different from belly dance or bhangra? +

Bollywood is the dance of Hindi cinema, blending classical Indian, folk and pop into film routines; bhangra is one Punjabi folk ingredient within it, and belly dance is a separate Middle Eastern tradition entirely. We teach these as distinct classes.

Can you teach children, a private group or a hen do? +

Yes — the big group energy makes Bollywood a superb private-group and hen activity, and we come to you across Bournemouth and the Dorset coast. Tell us the ages and numbers and we will tailor a routine.

Is the choreography authentic? +

We teach real Bollywood routines with the proper hand gestures, expression and film-song energy, rather than a generic dance-fitness routine with an Indian soundtrack. The aim is for it to look and feel like the real thing.

How do I get there without a car? +

Bournemouth railway station sits about a mile inland from the seafront rather than on the beach, and there is no tram or metro, so it is a short bus, taxi or walk into the centre, with Pokesdown and Branksome as other local stations. Directions come with your booking.
