How Your Grease Party Runs

Enrol at Rydell High

Your choreographer arrives at the venue, splits the warm-up between Pink Ladies sass and T-Birds swagger, and gets the whole group moving to the soundtrack within minutes.

Learn the routine

Hand jive, shimmies, partner-free jive steps and one gloriously dramatic slicked-back-hair moment, taught in short sections. The bride gets the Sandy spotlight; nobody needs experience.

The filmed finale

The session ends with the full routine performed and filmed — a national-dance-off moment for the group chat, and a ready-made party piece for the wedding reception.

Why a Grease Hen Do?

Grease is the hen party theme that needs zero persuasion. The 1978 film remains one of the best-loved musicals ever made, the songs are wired into every wedding playlist in Britain, and the costumes practically organise themselves — Pink Ladies jackets for the hens, a Sandy transformation for the bride. It is nostalgic, it is silly in the best way, and every generation from the flower girl to the mother-in-law knows it.

The routine draws on the film's biggest dance moments: the hand jive from the school dance-off, jukebox-era jive steps that work without partners, and the strutting, call-and-response energy of the finale. Your choreographer keeps it beginner-proof and camera-friendly, building to a big group finish. Expect exaggerated hair-slicking, synchronised shimmies and at least one dramatic slow-motion walk.

Britain arguably loved Grease harder than anywhere. You're the One That I Want spent nine weeks at UK number one in 1978 — before the film had even opened here — and singalong screenings still pack out cinemas and summer festivals. With the stage show returning to the West End as recently as 2022, this is a theme that has never once gone out of fashion.

Two singles from one film spent sixteen weeks at UK number one in 1978. Your hen party will understand why.

Summer Nights

The tell-me-more energy: boys-versus-girls call and response, perfect for splitting the hens into Pink Ladies and T-Birds.

You're the One That I Want

The finale at the fairground — the strut, the chase, the big transformation reveal. The natural closing number.

Greased Lightnin'

Full T-Birds swagger: sharp arm lines, group formations and maximum attitude around an imaginary car.

Born to Hand Jive

The school dance-off classic. The hand jive is quick to learn, impossible to do without smiling, and brilliant on film.

Hopelessly Devoted to You

The bride's ballad moment — a swaying, spotlight-on-Sandy section the rest of the group frames beautifully.

We Go Together

The whole-cast carnival finish: everyone in, nonsense syllables optional, group photo formation guaranteed.

Grease Facts Worth Repeating

1978's biggest film

Grease was the highest-grossing film of 1978 and became the highest-grossing movie musical of its time — a record it held for decades.

Nine weeks at number one

You're the One That I Want topped the UK singles chart for nine weeks in 1978 — months before the film had even been released in Britain.

Then seven more

Summer Nights followed it to UK number one for another seven weeks, giving the film sixteen weeks at the top of the British chart in a single year.

Sandy was born in Cambridge

Olivia Newton-John, forever Sandy, was born in Cambridge, England in 1948 before her family emigrated to Australia — Rydell High's most famous pupil was British.

Grease Questions, Answered

How much does a Grease hen party dance class cost?

One flat rate for the whole group: £140 for an hour or £165 for ninety minutes, plus the venue. The price is the same whether eight of you come or twenty-eight — no per-person pricing and no lost deposits when plans change.

Do you come to us, or do we come to you?

Either. Your choreographer can teach at your hen weekend accommodation if there is space to move, or we book a partner studio in your city. We run Grease hen parties in 67 UK cities, so the class fits around the weekend, not the other way round.

Half the group say they can't dance. Does that matter?

Not remotely. The hand jive was designed for a school hall full of teenagers, and our version is taught step by step for total beginners. If anything, the least confident dancers usually end up having the most fun.

Should we bring Pink Ladies jackets and costumes?

Yes — costumes make the video. We do not supply outfits or props, so bring your own jackets, quiffs, leather leggings and headscarves. Groups often put the bride in the full Sandy finale look for the filmed performance.
