Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Loud From the Off

The hour kicks off with a high-tempo warm-up to a chart filmi track — shoulders, wrists and hips wake up, the pulse lifts, and the smiles are in place before any steps are named.

10–25 mins

Trademark Moves

We break down the signatures one by one — the bhangra bounce through the shoulders, the expressive hands, a folk step — each slowed right down and looped until your body owns it.

25–40 mins

Building the Number

The moves assemble into a short filmi routine, taught section by section over a Bollywood number until the sections flow as one.

40–50 mins

Faces and Formations

Now the expressions and story-telling gestures go on, along with a few group shapes — where a set of steps tips over into an actual performance.

50–60 mins

The Full Thing, Full Volume

You take the finished routine top to bottom at full tilt a couple of times, formations and all, then wind the heart rate down with a real stretch.

About Bollywood Classes in Dundee

On screen, Bollywood is Hindi cinema's dance language — it steals a classical hand shape here, a bhangra shoulder-bounce there, a folk step, a pop hook, and fires them all off at top speed with a fixed grin. Stripped of the glitter it is proper cardio, it holds the door wide for absolute beginners, and the one thing it will not do is stay quiet.

Dundee has no regular weekly Bollywood fixture to point you at, so we teach it in instructor-led sessions on our own terms — a central studio near City Square, a West End room off Perth Road, or the class boxed up and delivered to your venue. The student buzz of the West End, university on the doorstep, makes it a natural home.

Reaching a studio is easy — the centre rooms are a short climb up from the waterfront station, and buses run in from the estates and out across Angus, with no tram to work around. Turn up in something you can sweat in and trainers that hold the floor, and pack a water bottle — at this volume there is precious little time to stand still.

Why Choose Bollywood in Dundee?

Straight Off the Screen

The choreography lifts from genuine film numbers, so what you walk away with looks like a Bollywood hit rather than a diluted stand-in.

The Face Does Half the Work

You pick up the gestures and expressions every bit as much as the footwork — the story runs through the hands and face, so performing is built in from the start.

Cardio Wearing a Grin

The bhangra bounce and big-armed moves get the pulse going for real, though the fun of it hides the fact you have just done a proper workout.

It Loves a Group

Hens, birthdays, office teams — it truly comes alive when a full room drives through the same routine together, and we will bring it to your door.

Your Bollywood Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

First Fortnight

Diving In

Your First Number

The bhangra bounce, a couple of expressive hand shapes and a folk step, strung into a short routine you can feel working by the time the first night ends.

Pack for It

Movement clothes you do not mind sweating through, trainers that grip the floor, and a bottle of water — all three earn their place.

Month Two

Filling It Out

Longer Choreography

The routine stretches out, handed to you a section at a time against a film track so it settles in properly rather than blurring past.

Selling It

The faces and gestures go on — the storytelling layer that lifts a sequence of steps into something worth watching.

Months 3–4

Sharpening Up

Moving as One

Loose formations and matched counts so the room lands the routine as a single unit and it looks clean head-on.

Full Wattage

Running it flat-out with the energy the style is really built for — no half-measures once the choreography is in.

Ongoing

Ready to Perform

Somewhere to Take It

A polished number you would happily bring to a party, a wedding sangeet or a hen weekend.

What's After

New releases, faster routines, or a deeper dive into bhangra and classical-leaning strands whenever you want more.

Bollywood in Dundee FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Where in Dundee do the Bollywood classes run? +

From a central studio near City Square or a West End room off Perth Road, with the address sent when you book. As there is no weekly Bollywood fixture in town, we are equally happy loading the class up and coming to you.

Do I need any dance experience for Bollywood? +

Zero needed. Everything is taught a count at a time at a beginner's speed, and the sheer energy and grinning cover a multitude of stumbles. Most of the room walked in never having tried it either.

Is a Bollywood class a proper workout? +

Genuinely, yes. Between the bhangra bounce, the big arms and the barely-stopping motion, your heart rate climbs like any cardio session — you are just too busy enjoying it to notice. Bring water.

What should I wear to a Bollywood class? +

Clothes you can sweat in and trainers with a bit of grip for the bounce and jumps. That is the lot — a splash of colour or a scarf is welcome but never required.

How much is a Bollywood class in Dundee? +

Eight pounds per drop-in, no joining fee and no term to sign up for. Come-to-you groups get a separate quote, but the regular class is just £8 as you walk in.

Will I learn the hand gestures and expressions too? +

You will — they are half the reason it is Bollywood. Alongside the footwork you will learn the signature hand shapes and the storytelling faces, the classical touch that sets it apart from plain pop routines.

Is Bollywood danced solo or in a group? +

Chiefly a group thing, danced in loose formations, which is why it is such a party fit. You learn your own part, then everyone performs it together, and no one is put on the spot unless they want it.

Is there anywhere in Dundee to see South Asian dance? +

We won't invent a scene we don't run — there is no standing weekly Bollywood night in Dundee. Where things do surface is the student world around the West End and the university, and your teacher will flag anything worth going to.

Can you teach Bollywood for a hen do or work team? +

Absolutely — Bollywood is a hit for hens, birthdays and work away-days, and we will bring the whole class to you across Dundee, Angus and north Fife. Pass on a date, rough numbers and a postcode and a single price comes back.
