Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

First 10 min

Warming the Body Up

We loosen the joints and get the bounce going — the gentle up-down groove everything in hip-hop sits on top of. It looks casual; it is doing a lot of work.

10–22 min

Isolations & Control

Head, shoulders, chest and hips learn to move one at a time. Owning each part separately is what makes street dance read as sharp rather than stiff.

22–36 min

Grooves & Foundations

We drill a few core party steps and old-school foundations — the vocabulary every routine is built from — until they feel natural instead of counted.

36–50 min

Building the Routine

The steps get stitched into a short piece of choreography set to a current track, taught in small chunks so nobody gets left behind.

50–60 min

Run It & Freestyle

We run the routine full-out a few times, then open a relaxed circle for anyone who fancies a few seconds of their own. No pressure — just a first taste of freestyle.

About Street Dance Classes in Gloucester

Street dance is an umbrella for the styles that grew out of hip-hop culture — grooves, isolations, party steps and choreography set to the music you already listen to. Our Gloucester classes teach it for adults from the ground up, so you leave each week with real steps and, before long, a whole routine.

Hip-hop is not a borrowed thing here. Your Next Move, based at the Guildhall, has spent years teaching young people the full culture — dance alongside graffiti, beatboxing and DJing — which is exactly why the city has a genuine feel for the music rather than a bolted-on trend. That grounding is the backdrop our adult class plugs into.

You need no experience and no crew — just clothes you can move in and trainers with a bit of give. It is a flat £8 on the door with nothing to join. Classes run from a central studio a short walk from the bus station, with the exact room confirmed when you book.

Why Choose Street Dance in Gloucester?

A Proper Sweat

An hour of grooves and running a routine full-out is a serious workout that never once feels like the gym.

Sharpness You Can See

Isolation work rewires how you move — control you keep long after the track ends, on any dance floor.

Music You Already Love

We choreograph to current tracks, so the counts you learn map straight onto whatever is playing on a night out.

No Crew Needed

Come alone and you are in good company — the room is full of adults starting from the same place, and it warms up fast.

Your Street Dance Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

01

Getting the Bounce

First things first

The groove and a couple of foundational steps. Getting comfortable moving to a beat without overthinking every count.

What to bring

Loose, comfortable clothing and trainers with a little cushioning and grip. Bring water — you will want it.

02

Sharpening Up

Control and isolations

Moving one body part at a time cleanly, which is the single thing that makes street dance look sharp.

More vocabulary

A growing bank of party steps and grooves you can drop into any routine or freestyle.

03

Dancing Full Routines

Choreography that sticks

Longer sequences set to current tracks, run full-out until they feel like second nature.

Finding your flavour

Adding your own attitude and texture, so the same steps start to look like you.

04

Going Further

A weekly habit

Most dancers settle into a regular class, banking routines and steadily levelling up.

Where it leads

From confident in a routine to trying freestyle circles, performance pieces or related styles like commercial and heels.

Street Dance in Gloucester FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Do I need any dance experience? +

None. The class is built for complete adult beginners and starts from the basic groove upward, one step at a time.

How much is a class? +

A flat £8 per session, paid on the day. No membership, no block booking, no contract.

What should I wear? +

Comfortable clothes you can move freely in and trainers with a bit of grip and cushioning. Bring a bottle of water.

Is there an age limit? +

Our adult classes run from 17 upward and welcome all ages above that — you set your own intensity throughout.

Where do the classes take place? +

A central Gloucester studio a short walk from the bus station, with the exact venue confirmed on booking. Private group sessions can also come to you.

Are you connected to Your Next Move? +

No. Your Next Move is a Gloucester youth organisation doing excellent culture-led work; we simply admire it. Ours is a separate adult class you book directly.

Will I actually learn a routine? +

Yes. Every block builds toward choreography set to a current track, taught in small chunks so you can genuinely perform it by the end.

Never on the spot. The optional circle at the end is there if you fancy it, and plenty of people watch happily for weeks before joining in.

How do I book my first class? +

Fill in the enquiry form on this page with your details and we will send back current times, the venue and how to reserve a spot.
