Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0-12 min

Warm-Up & Ankle Prep

Cardio to raise the heart rate plus focused ankle, calf and core work - dancing in heels asks a lot of the lower leg, so we prepare it properly before a single step is taken.

12-22 min

Walks & Posture

The heels walk, weight placement and the long-spine posture that makes everything read as confident. Master the walk and the choreography follows on much more easily.

22-40 min

Choreography

Learning the week's routine - sultry, commercial-flavoured choreography set to a current track, taught in phrases with real attention to lines, levels and attitude.

40-52 min

Runs & Performance

Running the routine full-out to music, adding facings and the facial performance that sells it. This is the point where steps genuinely turn into a number.

52-60 min

Stretch & Cool Down

Releasing the calves, ankles and hips that carried the class, and easing yourself gently back down to earth.

About Heels Classes in Gloucester

Heels is choreography danced in a heeled shoe - commercial and jazz-funk vocabulary reimagined with the extra line, sway and attitude that the shoe demands. Our Gloucester classes are about confidence every bit as much as steps: the walk, the posture, the body roll and a full routine to a track you will want to play again on the way home. You can wear heels or stay in trainers and socks; plenty of people do, especially at first.

The style borrows heavily from commercial dance, and Gloucester happens to have real roots there - the city's youth dance culture has long taught commercial and hip-hop alongside DJing and beatboxing out of the Guildhall, so the swagger heels draws on is genuinely local rather than borrowed. Bring that energy into a supportive adult room and add a heel, and you have a class that is equal parts workout, performance and pure confidence session.

This is one of the most empowering hours you can spend and one of the least judgemental - every level, age and body dances the same routine at its own intensity. Wear leggings or shorts, a top you can move in, and a low block heel to start if you own one; ankle support matters far more than height. Water and a bit of attitude make up the rest of the kit.

Why Choose Heels in Gloucester?

Confidence On Your Feet

Learning to move with control in heels transforms how you carry yourself - on a night out, on stage or simply walking into a room. That posture quietly stays with you afterwards.

Sculpts Legs & Core

Dancing in a heel fires the calves, glutes and core constantly. It is a genuine lower-body and stability workout wrapped up inside a routine you actually look forward to.

A Real Routine to Keep

You leave with a full piece of choreography to a song you love - something to perform, film or simply own for the pure joy of having danced it well.

Heels Optional, Always

New to the style or nursing sore ankles? Dance the whole class in trainers or socks. The choreography and the confidence are the point; the shoe is only ever a choice.

Your Heels Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

01

Finding Your Feet

Getting Started

You learn the heels walk, safe weight placement and short combinations at a manageable pace. Confidence and ankle strength come first; complexity is added in later.

What to Wear

Leggings or shorts, a top you can move freely in, and a low block heel if you own one - otherwise trainers or grip socks are completely and genuinely fine.

02

Attitude & Flow

Developing Style

Body rolls, level changes and longer combinations, with real focus on the sass, the lines and the performance face that define the whole style.

Musicality

Learning to ride the track - hitting accents, using slow controlled moments and letting the music dictate the attitude rather than merely the count.

03

Full Routines

Complete Numbers

Learning and holding a full routine across a whole song, with formations and clean transitions, run at performance energy and in your heels.

Owning the Floor

Adding the individual flavour - the pause, the glance, the freestyle moment - that turns learned choreography into a performance that is unmistakably yours.

04

Lights On

Performance Ready

Delivering a complete routine with polish and command, ready for optional showcases, socials or content - heels firmly on and confidence to match.

Where Next

Slide across into commercial for more choreography variety, burlesque for a cabaret flavour, or simply keep collecting fresh heels routines each term.

Heels in Gloucester FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Do I have to wear heels? +

No. You are welcome to dance the entire class in trainers or grip socks, and plenty of members do - especially while building ankle strength. The choreography, the lines and the confidence work identically without the shoe.

What kind of heels should I get? +

When you are ready, a closed-toe block or character heel around two to three inches gives the best support. Skip stilettos to begin with - stability and ankle support beat height every single time.

Is heels suitable for beginners? +

Completely. We teach the walk, posture and choreography from the ground up and layer the routine so newcomers get the core version while improvers add detail. No prior experience is needed at all.

Will it hurt my feet or ankles? +

We warm the ankles and calves up thoroughly and build height and intensity gradually, so it should not. Dancing in socks whenever you need to is always fine - we would far rather you did than push through any pain.

Is heels just for women? +

Not at all - the class is open and welcoming to everyone, whatever your gender, and it celebrates every body and level. It is about confidence and choreography, full stop and nothing more.

How much is a class? +

£8 per session on a drop-in basis, paid on the day. No membership, no block booking and no commitment beyond the single week you decide to turn up.

Is it a good workout? +

Genuinely, yes - dancing in a heel keeps your calves, glutes and core switched on the entire hour, on top of the cardio of a full routine. Expect to properly feel it in your legs.

Where in Gloucester are the classes? +

A central city studio, close to the bus station and a short walk from the Gloucester Quays car parks - handy if a session happens to run into the evening. The exact room is confirmed when you book.

Can we book a heels class for a group or hen do? +

Yes - heels is a firm favourite for hen parties and celebrations. A private group gets its own routine and a photo to finish. Group pricing is flat-rate and separate from the £8 drop-in; just ask us.
