Warm-Up With Attitude
We start with a moving warm-up that wakes up the joints and the swagger at the same time — bounces, rolls and isolations set to the track you will be dancing to. By the end you are loose, switched on and already in the mood of the routine.
Groove and Isolations
Before any choreography we drill the foundations that make commercial read sharp: chest and hip isolations, a solid bounce, and the knack of hitting a beat cleanly and holding it. This is the polish that separates full-out from tentative.
Building the Routine
We teach the choreography in short blocks, stacking one phrase onto the last so the whole thing sticks. It is picked to feel like something off a real music video, and we keep repeating until the counts drop out of your head and the movement runs on instinct.
Facings and Performance
Now we turn the steps into a performance — changing facings, finding the camera, and drilling the levels and eyelines that sell it. You learn to dance out to a room rather than down at the floor, which is where commercial really comes alive.
Full-Out Run
We run the whole routine at full energy a handful of times, music up, giving you the buzz of performing it properly before a gentle cool-down. You leave with a shareable routine in the bank and the adrenaline still going.
About Commercial Classes in Oxford
Commercial is the dance you see behind the artist — the punchy, camera-facing choreography of pop videos, arena tours and awards-show performances. It stitches street, jazz and hip-hop into short, hard-hitting routines built to sell a song, snap onto the beat and read big from the very back row. Attitude and clean, confident lines matter here as much as the steps themselves.
Oxford carries a bigger pop pedigree than its libraries let on. Supergrass, Ride, Foals and Glass Animals all came up through the city's small venues, with Radiohead forming just down the road in Abingdon, so there is no shortage of home-grown tracks to drive a routine. The city also holds real dance-theatre credentials in Body Politic, the hip-hop company rooted at the Pegasus Theatre out in East Oxford — and our commercial classes in Oxford take that performance-first, story-in-the-body energy as inspiration, with no claim of any tie to the company or the venue.
You do not need a scrap of experience or any particular look to belong in the room. We break every eight-count down slowly, then layer the attitude on top once the shapes are in your body, so a first week never feels like being thrown in the deep end. Wear trainers and clothes you can sweat and move freely in, bring water, and know that every session is a flat £8 — no membership, no block booking, nothing hidden.

Why Choose Commercial in Oxford?
Instant Performance Buzz
There is nothing quite like nailing a music-video routine full-out with a room behind you. Commercial delivers that hit fast, and the confidence it builds walks straight out of the studio and into the rest of your week.
A Proper Workout
Full-out commercial is genuine cardio — the sharp hits, the levels and the sheer commitment get the heart going without ever feeling like a gym. Most people are surprised how hard they have worked once the music stops.
Stage Presence
Learning to perform to a camera and a crowd builds a presence you keep for good. It shows up in auditions, on a dancefloor, and anywhere you would rather command a room than shrink into the corner of it.
The Best of Every Style
Because commercial pulls from street, jazz and hip-hop at once, it is a fast way to broaden your range. The versatility you build here makes almost every other class on the timetable click into place more easily.
Your Commercial Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Finding the Groove
Bounce and Hits
The opening weeks lock in the fundamentals — a comfortable bounce, clean isolations and the ability to land a beat and hold it. Get these grooving and every routine that follows sits on a solid base.
Simple Kit
Trainers with a bit of grip, clothes you can move and sweat in, and water — that is the whole list. No specialist gear, just turn up ready to go full-out.
Dancing the Routines
Picking Up Choreography
You start learning full routines and, more importantly, learning them faster — the muscle memory sharpens each week until picking up an eight-count stops feeling like a scramble.
Adding the Attitude
With the steps secure, we layer on the swagger, the facings and the dynamics that make commercial pop. This is where your dancing starts to look like the videos rather than the rehearsal.
Performing It
Selling the Song
We push the performance side hard — eyelines, levels, camera awareness — so you are not just executing steps but telling the track's story out to a room.
Your Own Flavour
You begin colouring set choreography with your own style, so two dancers can perform the identical routine and read completely differently. That personal stamp is what makes commercial addictive.
Taking It Further
Camera-Ready
Regulars build a wardrobe of routines and the confidence to film them, audition with them or simply own any dancefloor. The style has real depth once the basics are second nature.
Group Sessions
Commercial is brilliant for private and group bookings — a birthday, a work do, or a crew who want a routine of their own. Bring us the track and the occasion and we will build it around you.
Commercial in Oxford FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
I have never danced before — can I still join? +
Absolutely. Every routine is broken into small, repeatable chunks and taught at a pace the whole room can follow, so first-timers keep up comfortably. The attitude and detail get layered on gradually once the shapes are in, so nobody is left behind.
What is commercial dance, exactly? +
It is the high-energy, camera-facing style you see in pop videos, tours and awards shows. It blends street, jazz and hip-hop into sharp, punchy routines built for performance, where confidence and clean hits matter as much as the choreography.
What should I wear and bring? +
Trainers with a little grip, clothes you can move and sweat freely in, and a bottle of water. That is genuinely all — commercial is about energy and attitude, not a particular outfit or look.
Which parts of Oxford do the classes run in? +
Our central sessions gather around George Street and Gloucester Green, with an East Oxford option over towards Cowley Road and Jericho, all confirmed once you book. If it suits your group we come to you right across Oxford and Oxfordshire. We keep to Oxford itself rather than separate towns such as Abingdon, Kidlington, Bicester or Witney.
How much does a class cost? +
Every drop-in is a flat £8, paid one class at a time. There is no membership, no block to buy in advance and no contract — just come along on the weeks that suit you.
Is it a good workout? +
Very much so. Dancing full-out through sharp hits, level changes and repeated runs is real cardio, and most people are surprised how much they have sweated by the cool-down — all while it feels like a rehearsal rather than a gym session.
Do I need to be fit or coordinated already? +
No. Coordination is exactly what these classes build, week by week, and the fitness arrives as a side effect of dancing. You start where you are and the groove sharpens naturally the more you turn up.
Am I too old for commercial? +
Not at all — adult sessions run 17 to 75 and the room is a real mix. The energy is high but everything scales to you, so you dance the routine at the level that feels good on the day.
Can we book a private group session? +
Yes, and commercial is one of the most popular styles for it — birthdays, work socials, or a group who fancy learning a music-video routine together. Tell us the track and the occasion and we will tailor a session to it.
