Warm-up and wrists
Pole is hard on the shoulders, wrists and grip, so we warm and mobilise them thoroughly first — this part is non-negotiable and it keeps everyone off the injury list.
First holds and spins
You meet the pole with a basic spin and a couple of simple holds, learning where to grip and how to let the pole do more of the work than your muscles.
The climb
We break the climb into its footlock and hand placement and drill it low and safe, because a confident climb unlocks almost everything above it.
Linking it up
Spins and holds start joining into a short sequence, so the moves stop being separate tricks and begin to flow into one another.
A little flow
You run a short, smooth phrase on the pole and cool the grip down properly, finishing on something that already looks and feels like pole dance.
About Pole Dance Classes in Lancaster
One honest thing up front: pole needs a properly rigged studio. Sprung, well-spaced poles, crash matting and floor room are safety kit, not luxuries, so unlike our hall-based classes this one is held in a confirmed, equipped studio — the exact address comes with your booking. Everything is fully instructor-led from zero, and no strength or dance background is assumed.
Strength here is built, not demanded on day one. There is a fitting image in Lancaster's own history: Gillow, the city's world-famous furniture makers, made pieces that carry weight because the timber is joined so the load travels cleanly through the joint rather than fighting it. Pole trains your body along the same logic — you learn to hang and hold through clean lines and good placement, and the muscle arrives as a by-product of doing it right.
Because the rig sets a hard limit, classes stay small and personal, which is how a beginner should meet a pole in the first place. The equipped studio is confirmed when you book, and private groups — a hen party, a friends' block — can be arranged around the studio's availability.

Why Choose Pole Dance in Lancaster?
A properly rigged studio
Sprung poles, matting and space, checked before every class — the setup that lets a complete beginner learn safely rather than cautiously.
Strength you build, not bring
You are never expected to arrive strong; the holds and climbs develop the exact strength they need, week on week.
Small, personal classes
The rig caps numbers, so you get real eyes on your grip and technique instead of being lost at the back of a hall.
£8 flat, every session
One flat price on the night, no membership and no block — genuinely accessible for a discipline that is usually sold in pricey courses.
Your Pole Dance Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Grip and confidence
Trusting the pole
The first hurdle is nerve, not muscle; you learn where to hold and that the pole is steadier than it looks.
Wrists and shoulders ready
Careful conditioning means your grip and joints get stronger every week and the aches settle quickly.
First spins
Momentum, not force
You discover that a clean spin is about timing and placement rather than hauling yourself around with brute strength.
Two or three you own
A small set of spins becomes reliable enough to do without thinking through every step.
The climb
Up with control
The footlock and hand sequence click, and getting off the floor stops being daunting and starts being fun.
Holds that hold
Simple seats and poses feel secure, which is the strength and trust that unlock everything higher up.
Linking to a flow
Moves become dancing
Spins, climbs and holds thread together into a short sequence that flows rather than stops and starts.
Your own strength shows
You look back and realise you can do things that were impossible on week one — the quiet reward of pole.
Pole Dance in Lancaster FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Do I need to be strong or fit already? +
No — this is an absolute-beginner class and the strength is built as you go. Early moves rely on placement and momentum far more than muscle, and the conditioning is woven into every session.
Where are the classes held? +
In a properly rigged, equipped pole studio rather than a hired hall — sprung poles, matting and floor space are essential safety kit. The exact studio address is confirmed when you book.
What should I wear? +
Shorts and a vest or t-shirt — pole needs some bare skin at the backs of the knees and the arms to grip. Bring warmer layers for the floor-based warm-up and cool-down.
What does it cost? +
£8 a class, flat, paid on the night — no membership, no block booking, no contract, which is rare for pole.
Is it beginner-friendly if I have never danced? +
Completely. Most people arrive having never touched a pole; we start with grip, a single spin and careful conditioning, and build from there at a sensible pace.
Is a bit of bruising normal? +
Yes — 'pole kisses' on shins and forearms are common and fade fast as your body adapts. Good technique keeps them minor, and they are a normal part of everyone's first few weeks.
How big are the classes? +
Deliberately small — the number of rigged poles sets a hard cap, so you get proper individual attention on your grip and technique throughout.
Can I do this for a hen party or private group? +
Yes, subject to the studio's availability, since it has to be the equipped space. Tell us your group and dates on the form and we will arrange it around the rig.
How do I start? +
Send the short form on this page and we reply within a working day with the next beginner session, the studio address and the start time.
