Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0-10 min

Warm Up In Flats

We open barefoot or in trainers with a mobility and strength warm-up for the ankles, calves and core. Heels ask a lot of the lower leg, so we wake it up properly before a single strap goes on.

10-24 min

Standing And Walking In Heels

The strap goes on and we practise the basics: how to stand, shift weight and walk with control. This is the foundation everything sultry is built on — poise before choreography.

24-38 min

Attitude And Isolations

Hip rolls, body waves, hair and the slow, deliberate looks that give heels its signature edge. We drill the isolations that turn steps into attitude.

38-52 min

Learn The Choreography

A short routine to a strong track, fed in slow counts of eight. We layer the walk, the floor moments and the poses until the whole thing flows on your heels.

52-60 min

Run It And Cool Down

One or two full run-throughs with everything on, filmed if the group fancies, then a thorough stretch for the calves, ankles and hips you have just tested.

About Heels Classes in Lancaster

Heels is exactly what it sounds like — strong, sultry, confidence-driven choreography danced in a heel, drawn from commercial, jazz and street and set to tracks with real attitude. Our Lancaster class teaches it properly, which means starting with technique: how to stand, walk and shift your weight safely in a heel before we ever add the choreography. Master that and the power and the sass follow naturally.

Lancaster has a young, night-loving pulse that the style fits neatly — a compact city where the student crowd off the hill spills into the bars along Church Street and the after-work buzz around Market Street, and where studios such as The Dance Hub have long kept a commercial-and-street energy going. We point to that scene as honest neighbours, not as a partner we are tied to. Our class stands on its own, open to anyone who wants to feel that bit more powerful on their feet.

You do not need to live in heels, and you do not need to be a dancer. Plenty of people arrive wobbly and unsure and, within a few weeks, are walking a routine with genuine command. Bring a low block heel to start rather than a stiletto, come at your own pace, and expect to leave taller than you walked in. £8 a drop-in, no contract, all confidence welcome.

Why Choose Heels in Lancaster?

Confidence On Your Feet

Learning to move with power in a heel changes how you carry yourself everywhere. Dancers routinely say the biggest take-home is the self-assurance, not the steps.

Technique First, Safely

We teach the ankle and core strength and the walking technique before the choreography, so you move confidently and reduce the wobble — heels done properly, not recklessly.

Real Choreography To Real Tracks

You learn full routines to strong, current music you would actually want to dance to — something you could perform, film or just enjoy owning.

Central And Easy

We run from city-centre studios near Market Street, a short walk from the station and central car parks — a simple weeknight fixture whether it is your whole evening or the warm-up to one.

Your Heels Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

01

Finding Your Feet

Weeks 1-3

You build ankle and core strength, learn to stand and walk with control in a heel, and pick up your first short combination. The wobble starts to settle.

What changes

Standing tall in heels stops feeling precarious and starts feeling powerful.

02

Adding The Attitude

Weeks 4-8

The isolations — hip rolls, body waves, the slow looks — start to land, and your walk gains real intent. Choreography feels less like survival and more like style.

What changes

You stop concentrating on staying upright and start actually performing the moves.

03

Owning The Routine

Months 3-5

You run full routines full-out on your heels, floor moments and all, adding your own edge and facial energy on top of the steps.

What changes

The choreography becomes performance — you are selling it, heels and all, not just getting through it.

04

Powerful And Fluent

Month 6 onward

New routines go in quickly, your stamina in heels climbs, and you dance with the assured, unhurried power the style is all about.

What changes

The confidence is no longer something you switch on for class — it is simply how you move.

Heels in Lancaster FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

What actually happens in a heels class? +

You warm up and build strength out of heels, then work standing, walking and weight-shifting in them before learning a short routine to a strong track. In Lancaster we always teach technique first so the sultry choreography sits on a safe, confident foundation.

Do I need dance experience? +

No. The class welcomes complete beginners as much as returners. Everything, including how to move in a heel, is taught from scratch and layered in slow counts, so first-timers keep up fine.

What kind of heels should I bring? +

Start with a low, chunky block heel rather than a stiletto — it is far more stable while you learn. Character or dance heels are ideal if you have them, and you are always welcome to warm up and practise sections in trainers first.

Is dancing in heels safe for my ankles? +

Handled properly, yes. A big part of the class is the ankle and core strengthening and the walking technique that make heels safe, and you can drop into flats whenever you need. We build you up rather than throwing you in.

How much is a class? +

£8 for a single drop-in, paid on the day. No membership, no block to buy up front and no contract — you come the weeks that suit you and pay only for those.

Do I have to wear heels the whole time? +

Not at all. The warm-up and strength work are done out of heels, and you are free to learn sections in flats and add the heel when you feel ready. Nobody is forced onto a stiletto to keep up.

Where in Lancaster are the classes held? +

In city-centre studios near Market Street and Church Street, with the room confirmed on booking. It is a short walk from the railway station and the central car parks, easy to reach on a weeknight.

Is heels only for one kind of person? +

Not remotely. The class draws every age, shape and background, and the whole point is feeling powerful in your own body. It is a warm, un-judging room — you set the level of sultry that feels right for you.

Can I book heels for a hen or group? +

Yes. Alongside the weekly drop-in we run a heels hen party as a one-off private session — a confidence-boosting, high-energy hour that makes a brilliant group celebration.
