Steps & Sequences
Linking those movements into short reel and light-jig sequences, keeping the arms still and the energy down in the legs.
Rhythm & Travel
Travelling the steps across the floor in time with traditional tunes, building the lightness and bounce the dance is known for.
Full Run & Cool-Down
Dancing a whole short sequence to music, then a calf and ankle stretch to finish.
About Irish Dancing Classes in Lancaster
Irish dancing has a pull that goes well beyond St Patrick's night — the upright poise, the machine-gun footwork and that unmistakable bounce make it one of the most joyful styles to pick up. Around Lancaster, though, there is no settled adult class to walk straight into, so rather than pretend otherwise we bring the class to you.
We run a come-to-you Irish dance session covering Lancaster and the Lune Valley. A teacher arrives at your hall, hotel function room or hired space in Bowerham, Scotforth, Hala or wherever suits your group, and sets up a proper beginners' class on the spot. We will happily travel the outer legs too — over towards Morecambe, out to Carnforth or up to the Bailrigg campus — as a separate booking.
No hard shoes, no feis history and no experience are needed to begin. Soft-shoe reels and light jigs are ideal for first-timers, and the class is built so a whole group of beginners can find the rhythm together inside a single friendly hour.

Why Choose Irish Dancing in Lancaster?
Light, Quick Footwork
You build the precise, springy foot placement Irish dance is famous for, one slow shape at a time until the speed arrives on its own.
We Come to You
There is no fixed Lancaster hub to travel to — we bring the teacher, the music and the class to your chosen space across the city and valley.
Traditional Rhythm
Dancing to real reels and jigs trains your timing and ear, and there is a genuine thrill when a whole group locks into the same beat.
Brilliant for Groups
Friends, family, hen parties or work teams all learn together from zero, which makes it a warm, giggly and surprisingly quick way in.
Your Irish Dancing Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
First Steps
Carriage & Feet
The upright hold, still arms and the basic rise onto the toes — the posture that everything in Irish dance is built on.
What You Need
Comfortable clothes you can move in and soft shoes, ballet pumps or even socks on a smooth floor to start with.
Building Sequences
Reels & Light Jigs
Linking points, skips and hops into short soft-shoe sequences danced to traditional tunes at a gentle pace.
Keeping Time
Learning to hear the lilt of a reel and land each step precisely on the beat rather than chasing after it.
Travelling & Speed
Across the Floor
Taking the sequences travelling, adding the lift and bounce that give Irish dance its airborne look.
More Complex Steps
Layering in trebles and sharper footwork as the feet grow quicker and more certain of themselves.
Confident Dancer
Full Sequences
Dancing longer set pieces smoothly and lightly, with the control to keep the upper body calm and the feet flying.
Where Next
Move towards hard-shoe rhythm work, join in for social ceili sets, or keep polishing performance-level soft-shoe.
Irish Dancing in Lancaster FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
What kind of Irish dancing do you teach? +
We focus on soft-shoe styles — reels and light jigs — which are the most welcoming way for adults to begin. They build the posture, footwork and rhythm that underpin everything, including hard-shoe work later on.
Do you have a regular class in Lancaster? +
We do not run a fixed weekly hub in the city, and we would rather be honest about that than invent one. Instead we bring the class to you anywhere across Lancaster and the Lune Valley, whenever your group wants to book.
Where exactly will the class take place? +
Wherever suits you — a community hall, a hotel function room, a hired studio or a big enough space at home. We regularly cover Bowerham, Scotforth and Hala, and reach out to Morecambe, Carnforth and the university as outer legs.
How much does it cost? +
It is £8 per person for a drop-in session, the same flat price as every one of our classes. For private group and hen bookings we will talk you through the options when you enquire.
Do I need special shoes? +
Not to begin with. Soft pumps, jazz shoes or socks on a smooth floor are all fine for early reels and jigs. If you carry on into hard-shoe work, that is when proper Irish dance shoes come in.
Have I any hope if I have never danced? +
Absolutely — most people arrive as complete beginners. Soft-shoe steps are broken right down, and there is something about a whole group finding the rhythm together that makes it click faster than you would think.
Is it good for a hen do or group celebration? +
It is ideal. Everyone starts level, the footwork brings instant giggles and the shared rhythm bonds a group quickly, which makes it a memorable one-off for hens, birthdays and work socials.
How fit do I need to be? +
It is livelier than it looks, working the calves and getting the heart up, but the class builds gradually. You can dance at your own pace and take breathers whenever you need to.
Can children join in? +
Our come-to-you sessions can be arranged for younger age groups on request, so families and mixed-age groups can dance together. Just mention who is taking part when you book.
