Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 min

Warm-up & Bounce

We loosen the whole body and settle into the bounce — the gentle up-down pulse that makes street look easy on the people who make it look easy. Get the groove first and the moves sit on top of it.

10–20 min

Grooves & Isolations

You drill a couple of foundation grooves and isolate head, chest and shoulders, learning to move one part while the rest stays quiet. This is the vocabulary every routine is written in.

20–35 min

Building Moves

We add a few signature steps — a two-step variation, a slide, a bit of attitude — practised slowly on both sides so they are clean before they are ever fast.

35–50 min

The Routine

The moves link into a short piece of choreography set to a current track, taught eight counts at a time and stacked up so you can feel it becoming a whole sequence.

50–60 min

Run It

We run the routine full-out a few times with the music up, so you leave having performed something start to finish — and understanding exactly why people get hooked on that feeling.

About Street Dance Classes in Swansea

Street dance classes in Swansea are about finding your groove: the bounce and rock that sit under hip-hop, clean isolations, and the satisfaction of nailing a short routine to a track you actually listen to. Swansea has real street credibility to build on — MODE, the Makers of Dance Energy over in Sketty, have carried hip-hop and street across the city and South Wales for years — and there is a certain rhythm to a town that once hammered copper on the Tawe day and night.

You need no experience and no partner — street is danced solo in a group, everyone facing the mirror finding their own timing. We start with posture, the two-step and the bounce, layer in isolations and grooves, and only then hang choreography on top, broken down eight-count by eight-count so the routine builds instead of overwhelming.

Classes run across Swansea, from the central Castle Square and Wind Street area to the Uplands and Brynmill side, venue confirmed on booking, with mobile group sessions available towards the Mumbles and Gower. Each session is a flat £8 on the night, so you can try it once with nothing riding on it. Wear trainers with a clean sole and clothes you can move and sweat in — that is the entire dress code.

Why Choose Street Dance in Swansea?

All levels, real basics

We teach the groove and foundations properly rather than throwing you into steps, so total beginners keep up and returners still get sharper. Everyone dances the same routine at their own level.

Danced to real tracks

Choreography is set to music you would actually hear out, not a sanitised studio loop, so what you learn feels current and worth filming.

Solo in a crowd

There is no partner and no spotlight — you dance in the group facing the mirror, which is a low-pressure way to build the confidence street is really about.

Across Swansea

Sessions sit centrally or over the Uplands and Sketty side, venue confirmed on booking, and a private group class can travel out towards the Mumbles and Gower.

Your Street Dance Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

01

Weeks 1–2 — Finding the Groove

The bounce clicks

Within two weeks the underlying bounce stops feeling self-conscious and starts feeling natural, and suddenly the moves have something to sit on top of.

Isolations arrive

Moving your chest or shoulders on their own feels alien at first and then, quite quickly, it does not. That control is the backbone of everything street.

02

Weeks 3–6 — Stacking Moves

A vocabulary of steps

You collect a handful of foundation moves you can actually do on demand, on both sides, and they stop needing a countdown before each one.

Musical timing

You start hitting the beat and the accents rather than dancing near them, and the routine begins to look sharp instead of approximate.

03

Months 2–3 — Real Routines

Longer choreography

Sequences get longer and change direction, and you pick up new eight-counts faster because the foundations are already automatic.

Your own flavour

Two dancers doing the identical routine start to look different — the point where you stop copying and begin performing.

04

Ongoing — Making It Yours

Freestyle confidence

You get comfortable improvising in a cypher or a gap in the routine, trusting your grooves to carry you when there is no set choreography.

Keep building, no strings

At £8 a drop-in with nothing to sign, you can keep sharpening for as long as you like — most people stay for the tunes and the crew as much as the dancing.

Street Dance in Swansea FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Do I need any experience? +

None. Classes begin with posture, the bounce and the basic grooves, so an absolute beginner has everything they need. Foundations are taught every session, not assumed.

Do I need a partner? +

No — street is a solo dance done in a group. You face the mirror and dance your own version alongside everyone else, which keeps the pressure right off.

What should I wear? +

Trainers with a clean, non-marking sole and comfortable clothes you can move and sweat in. No special kit — just whatever lets you drop low and reach high without thinking about it.

Is there an age limit? +

Our advertised adult class runs roughly 17 upwards, and the booking form lists younger age bands too. Whatever your age, we pitch the room to the people in it.

How much is it? +

Eight pounds per session, paid on the night, the same flat £8 as every class we run in Swansea. No membership and no block to buy — just turn up when you can.

Are you connected to MODE or the other Swansea schools? +

No. MODE and the city's other street and hip-hop schools do great work, and we are happy to point you their way, but we have no affiliation with any of them — we simply run our own beginner-friendly sessions.

Will I actually learn a routine? +

Yes. Every block of classes builds toward a full routine set to a current track, taught eight counts at a time so it stacks up rather than swamps you.

Whereabouts in Swansea? +

Centrally near Castle Square and Wind Street, and over the Uplands and Brynmill side, venue confirmed on booking. Private group sessions can also come to you around Swansea, the Mumbles and Gower.

Can I bring a group or hen do? +

Definitely. Friends are welcome in the regular class, and for an occasion we run private street dance hen party sessions built around your group instead of the weekly drop-in.
