Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Loosen Up on the Beat

Bounces, rocks and rolls until your body starts answering the track by itself — the groove foundation the rest of the hour gets stacked on top of.

10–25 mins

This Week's Party Dance

One social dance dug into properly, from old-school classics to recent floor-fillers, so you leave with moves that genuinely work on a night out.

25–40 mins

The Choreography

A short phrase set to a current track, taught count by count and layered up until the whole thing runs clean at full tempo.

40–50 mins

Musicality & Play

Learning to hear the drums, the melody and the gaps between them, then hitting those your own way — the difference between doing steps and dancing.

50–60 mins

Full Run & Cool-Down

The whole room runs the routine together a few times, then a proper stretch so you head home loose rather than aching.

About Hip-Hop Classes in Leicester

Hip-hop and street dance get lumped together, and we keep them apart on purpose. Street dance is the umbrella that rotates through locking, popping and breaking; hip-hop is one lane, and here it gets the whole hour. That means the grooves it is built on, the social dances that came straight off dancefloors, and the choreography that grows out of both.

Leicester is a young city with two universities, thirty-five thousand students and a real appetite for a night out — the sort of place that empties into Victoria Park when Kasabian come home to play. Our hip-hop classes in Leicester feed off that energy: this is dancing built to travel from the studio floor to an actual dancefloor.

You will dance at partner studios in the city centre around Highcross and over in the Cultural Quarter on Rutland Street, with the exact address sent when you book. Leicester station is a ten-minute walk and there is no tram to puzzle out — the middle of town is small, flat and quicker on foot than in the car.

Why Choose Hip-Hop in Leicester?

One Lane, Not Twenty

We do not sprint through every street style in an hour. Hip-hop gets the full session, so it actually sinks in and sticks.

Moves That Leave the Studio

The party dances we teach are the ones that work at a wedding, a club or a Cultural Quarter bar — not just in front of a mirror.

A Student-City Crowd

With two universities on the doorstep, classes fill with beginners in their teens, twenties and well beyond, so nobody feels out of place.

Juniors and Teens Too

Age-grouped sessions for younger dancers run alongside the adult class, taught by DBS-checked coaches.

Your Hip-Hop Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Weeks 1–4

Lock Into the Groove

Getting Started

Bounces, rocks and one simple party dance a week. The aim is rhythm and nerve, not polish — you leave able to move to anything.

What to Bring

Flat-soled trainers and clothes you can sweat in. A water bottle. Nothing else — personal style is welcome but never required.

Months 2–3

Stack the Vocabulary

More Moves

The party-dance archive grows and the weekly choreography gets longer, so you are stringing steps rather than collecting them one by one.

First Freestyle

Short, low-stakes freestyle games teach you to trust a move without counting it out beforehand.

Months 4–6

Find Your Own Accent

Musicality

You start hitting the track your own way — same routine as everyone else, but unmistakably yours.

Sharper Choreo

Faster teaches, cleaner hits and combinations that would have looked impossible back in week one.

Months 6+

Take It Out

Confident and Loose

Freestyling in the circle without freezing, and picking up new routines quickly.

What Comes Next

Leicester's student showcases, our own classes across the city, or simply owning the floor on a night out.

Hip-Hop in Leicester FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

How is this different from your street dance classes in Leicester? +

Street dance is our umbrella class, rotating through locking, popping, breaking and house. Hip-hop is one of those lanes given a whole hour to itself — the grooves, the social party dances and the choreography that comes off them. Plenty of Leicester dancers do both.

Do I need any dancing experience to start? +

None at all. Every session opens with the groove — a simple bounce anyone can find — and builds from there. In a two-university city, our starter classes are full of complete beginners, so you will be in good company.

Whereabouts in Leicester do the hip-hop classes run? +

At partner studios in the city centre near Highcross and over in the Cultural Quarter on Rutland Street, all a short walk from the station. We confirm the exact address once you book, and children's groups sit alongside the adult sessions.

What music will we actually dance to? +

Hip-hop and the tracks the party dances came from, plus current chart cuts for the choreography weeks. Leicester is a proper gig city — the sort that fills Victoria Park for a Kasabian homecoming — and the playlist keeps that going-out energy.

What should I wear for hip-hop? +

Flat-soled trainers and clothes you can move and sweat in. Hip-hop has always rated personal style, so past that, wear whatever feels like you. Bring water.

Is there any freestyling, or is it all set routines? +

A little, and never sprung on you. We use short, low-pressure freestyle games so you learn to trust a move without counting it — but the circle is always optional, and nobody is dragged into it.

How much is a hip-hop class in Leicester? +

Drop-in classes are £8, with no membership and no contract — just turn up. Once a regular Leicester timetable is set at your nearest studio, discounted blocks will be offered too.

Can my kids or teenager join? +

Yes. Age-grouped children's and teen sessions run alongside the adult class, taught by DBS-checked coaches. Pick the right age band on the enquiry form and we will point you to the session.

Is it a decent workout? +

Genuinely, yes. An hour of bounces, party dances and running the routine gets the heart going without feeling like a gym class — you will be warm within minutes and properly loose by the end.
