Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Flat Warm-Up
The first ten minutes happen flat on the ground — loosening the joints, waking up the calf and ankle muscles, finding the posture. It's the plainest part of the class and also the one protecting your feet, so it's never dropped.
The Walk
Next, the walk itself gets dedicated time — powering out of the hips, letting the weight travel through each foot, and stacking one clean vertical line from the floor right up through the crown of your head. Every routine is built on that walk.
Learning the Number
A routine with a commercial edge, danced to something from the charts or a club playlist, broken into small sections and scaled to whichever heel height — or none — you're comfortable with today.
Turning On the Attitude
Then the showmanship layers on top — sharp angles fired forward, drops you keep under control, the face that convinces a crowd. The instant you pick a target for a move, it stops being a step and turns into a statement.
Full Out, Then Recover
A final run given absolutely everything, followed by an unhurried wind-down that takes care of the calf and ankle muscles doing all that work.
About Heels Classes in Leicester
Heels takes commercial choreography and lifts it onto a raised shoe — a bold walk, crisp lines and attitude for days, driven far more by your balance than by however tall the heel happens to be. It leans as much on performing as on the steps, making presence out of ordinary movement. Think of the heel as the outfit and the control underneath as the thing you're really learning.
It's a natural fit for Leicester, a proper going-out city with a Purple Flag to prove it. The crowd you'd find in the Cultural Quarter cocktail bars and along Granby Street is the same crowd in these classes, and with two big universities feeding in, the sessions run young and full of energy. In a city that loves to put on a show, a stage is never far away.
There's no rush toward the shoe. Those first weeks you'll work in flat trainers, picking up the choreography as your ankles gradually gain the strength they'll need — craft comes a long way ahead of glamour here. There's room for everyone: every gender, every level, any adult over 17, and zero judgement. Come in by train or bus, the sensible plan when you're carrying a heel and have an evening out lined up afterwards.

Why Choose Heels in Leicester?
The Walk Is Learnable
A great walk is made, not inherited — it's really just timing, posture and balance working together, all of which can be taught, and we coach it from the feet upward.
Your Ankles Come First
Safety is designed into every session — we warm up flat, size each routine to the heel you can handle, and keep beginners well away from stilettos. It's what your ankles can take that sets the tempo, never the lesson plan.
All Genders, One Floor
A single routine, a mixed floor, and every person on it together. This was never a style just for women — all it demands is attitude, and nothing else at all.
Straight Out Afterwards
The benefit lands straight away and travels with you — take an early session, then walk that brand-new swagger out onto Granby Street when the evening kicks off.
Your Heels Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Flat First
Getting Started
Basic grooves, your posture and that walk, all in flat trainers while the ankles get slowly stronger underneath you — the exact reason the early weeks stay off the heel.
Kit
Joggers or leggings, a stretchy top and trainers. Leave the heels at home until you own a pair you genuinely trust and you've actually decided you want to go up.
Onto the Heel
Technique
For sections of the class a sturdy block heel appears; you polish the walk and learn to line your weight up over it so the shoe becomes an ally rather than an obstacle.
First Routines
Compact routines with a real commercial kick, every one pegged to whatever heel height you can actually manage on the day.
Taking the Floor
Bigger Numbers
Fuller pieces that add drops through the levels and moments down on the floor, performed with tidy facings and a pretend crowd watching from the front.
Your Attitude
That unmistakable presence dividing a real heels dancer from everyone else — the distance between merely hitting the moves and genuinely owning the space.
Sure of It
Perform
Recorded clips and slots in a showcase if that appeals; if it doesn't, just the most fearless hour going on the weekly schedule.
What's Next
Stepping up to improver heels, branching sideways into commercial, or pulling your friends together for a hen-party version.
Heels in Leicester FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Is this a women-only class? +
Not even slightly. The Leicester heels room is open to all genders and it looks it — a real mix of people, friendly and thoroughly laid-back. This style came out of stage and club culture that welcomed everybody from the off, and none of that has changed.
Do I have to be in heels from day one? +
No — the vast majority begin in trainers. Those first weeks are about grooving in the walk, the posture and the strength in your feet on flat ground, and you only move up onto the heel once you feel properly ready, not a session sooner.
Do I need any dance experience to start? +
Not a scrap. Everything gets broken down bit by bit from the ground up, and the beginners room takes nothing for granted. Put simply, if you can walk across a room you already have the raw material we need.
What do I wear apart from the shoes? +
Comfortable bottoms — leggings or joggers — a top that copes with a sweat, and a bottle of water. Once we bring in floor moments a pair of knee pads is worth having, but on your first visit none of that is essential.
How much does a class cost in Leicester? +
A drop-in is £8, handed over on the night, with no contract and no membership to sign up for. When your closest studio pins down a regular weekly time, cheaper block prices come into play.
Where in Leicester do the heels classes run? +
Partner studios right in the city centre, a couple of minutes from the Cultural Quarter bars and Granby Street. You'll get the precise venue when you book, and it's an easy walk from both Leicester station and the Highcross decks.
Which heels should I buy when I'm ready? +
When you reach that point, look for a block heel fitted with an ankle strap — it holds the foot in place and treats you far more gently than a fresh pair of stilettos. A solid heeled ankle boot is another safe bet. Anything that feels unsteady is best left in the wardrobe.
Is it genuinely safe for my ankles? +
It is, provided the coaching is right — and that's the whole reason the class opens flat, wakes the ankles up before anything else, and matches each routine to a height you can handle. We never send anyone up in a heel they aren't ready for; those flat opening weeks exist precisely to grow the steadiness and balance that make the shoe safe once it does come out.
Can we book a heels hen party in Leicester? +
Yes — a heels session makes a brilliant warm-up before a night out around the Cultural Quarter and Granby Street. Pop your date and how many of you there are on the form, and we'll either reserve a city studio or come out to you across Leicestershire.
