Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Line Up the Body

Isolations, crisp angles and a lifted posture kick things off — commercial reads as flat unless the shapes are razor-clean, so we sort the frame before any counts arrive.

10–25 mins

Riding the Hits

You tune your ear to a track's accents and answer them straight back — dipping through a level, catching the beat dead-on, throwing enough power at each one to reach the back wall.

25–40 mins

Stacking the Routine

The month's chart choreography, fed to you a section at a time and assembled into a complete number, set to whatever single you can't get away from this week.

40–50 mins

Shapes and Spacing

Which way you face, the mark you hold, and how the whole group slides between shapes as one image — the spacing craft that separates a produced routine from a scramble.

50–60 mins

Take It to Camera

One all-out run straight down the lens, performance face and all, captured on a single clip so you can clock your own progress by next week.

About Commercial Classes in Leicester

Picture the choreography bolted onto a pop single — the stadium tour, the glossy three-minute promo, the Saturday-night TV slot. That's commercial, and every bit of it exists to work on a screen, which is why selling the performance matters just as much as nailing the steps.

Leicester is a young, gig-hungry city — two universities and better than 35,000 students, plus a homegrown festival streak: Kasabian, the city's own band, still play vast homecoming shows in Victoria Park. That energy spills into these classes, and there's rarely a shortage of people up for a stage.

Sessions meet at partner studios around the city centre and the Cultural Quarter, out toward Clarendon Park and the London Road student belt, with the room confirmed on booking. First-timers are the rule here, not the exception — grabbing choreography quickly is a skill we grow in you, never one we expect on arrival. The train sets you down ten minutes from the centre, and Highcross has thousands of spaces if you drive.

Why Choose Commercial in Leicester?

Choreography Built for Screens

You pick up routines put together the same way arena sets and promos are, from teachers whose own weeks are spent working in exactly that industry.

Learning Fast, on Purpose

Soaking up moves at speed is the one thing every commercial dancer leans on, so we drill it deliberately every week until it feels automatic.

One Clean Picture

Where everyone stands and faces, and how sharp the front line is, is what turns a scattered room into one deliberate image — the finish that lifts commercial above the street styles at its roots.

A Young, Easy Room

Two big student intakes and a city that never turns down a night out keep these classes packed and friendly, with a clear next step waiting whenever you want more.

Your Commercial Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Week 1–4

Getting Sharp

Getting Started

Bounce, body isolations and the crisp, intentional texture that commercial is built on. We chase nerve and precision first; pace is a later problem.

Kit

Something stretchy you can throw shapes in and flat trainers with a smooth sole — a tee with trackies does it. Heels get a dedicated class elsewhere.

Month 2–3

Beginning to Sell It

Foundations

Accents, sharp angles and level drops strung into complete phrases, letting the track — rather than a spoken count — steer where everything travels.

Your Flavour

The style borrows from jazz, street and hip-hop all at once, so you begin noticing whether your body prefers punch or flow.

Month 4–6

Full Pieces

Longer Routines

Quicker to absorb, meaner transitions, full routines ready to shoot for your feed or put in front of a crowd.

The Finish

The work turns from recalling moves to genuinely selling them — light and shade, dynamics, and a front that reaches the back row.

Month 6+

Camera-Confident

Perform

Filmed projects and showcase slots if you want them, or simply the weekly rush of going full tilt for the sheer joy of it.

What's Next

Improver-level numbers, audition-tempo classes, or crossing over into the heels room.

Commercial in Leicester FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

What kind of music will we dance to? +

Current chart material, more or less — pop one week, some R&B or Afrobeats the next, whatever single is inescapable at the time. We keep swapping the tracks in, so the class never feels stuck on a playlist from two summers ago.

How is commercial different from street or hip-hop? +

Street and hip-hop grow out of culture, foundations and freestyling. Commercial borrows all of that and buffs it up for the lens — everyone in sync, neat formations, a number built to look good on camera. Loads of Leicester dancers cheerfully do both in a single week.

Can I join with no dance background at all? +

Yes — that's how the majority arrive. Sessions are pitched at newcomers, and learning to catch choreography quickly is something we coach from minute one, so you won't be abandoned at the back. Glance around on any given night and most people started right where you are now.

Where in Leicester are the commercial classes? +

Partner studios around the city centre and the Cultural Quarter, with a handful further out toward Clarendon Park and the student belt. We confirm which one after you book, and all of them are a short stroll from Leicester station or the Highcross decks.

What's the price of a class in Leicester? +

It's £8 per class, settled on the night, with nothing to join and no ongoing commitment. Once your local studio locks in a fixed weekly time, block bookings bring the price down.

What should I bring and wear? +

Kit you can move in freely and trainers with a clean sole — think joggers or leggings with a tee, nothing rigid. There's no special footwear to buy, and heels are covered in a separate class.

Do you record the class? +

Generally only that last full run, kept as a clip so you can track how you're coming along. You're asked each time, it's never compulsory, and it stays off the internet unless everyone in the room agrees.

Is there anywhere to actually perform in Leicester? +

Loads of options. Leicester is a genuine gig-and-festival place — Kasabian pack out Victoria Park, Curve and the two student unions put on showcases, and informal socials crop up through the year. When you're ready, whoever's teaching you can steer you to the right one.

Can we book a private or hen group in Leicester? +

Definitely — a filmed, music-video-style routine is among the group and hen bookings we get asked for most. Drop your date and headcount on the form and we'll either put you in a city-centre studio or drive out to reach you somewhere in Leicestershire.
