Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Loosen Up & Step
Side-to-side basics with the tap on four, layered over a gentle mobility warm-up. By minute ten the whole room is stepping to the same guitar line.
Holds & Handwork
How to offer a frame and how to read one — leads and follows learn both sides of the conversation before a single turn arrives.
The Night's Figure
One new pattern taught properly: broken down, walked through, then danced up to music, with turns and travelling steps added as the group is ready.
Hips & Flavour
The Dominican seasoning — waist movement, footwork syncopations and the small accents that turn correct steps into actual dancing.
Partner Carousel
Everyone rotates and dances the new figure with half the room, and the final track runs like a miniature social. Quick stretch, big grins, done.
About Bachata Classes in Glasgow
Bachata is the friendliest doorway into Latin dance: a walking-pace basic, romantic guitar music and partnerwork that rewards listening over athleticism. Our bachata classes in Glasgow keep things social from the first track — you learn to lead or follow, rotate partners constantly, and pick up the Dominican hip action at whatever speed your hips negotiate. It is close to impossible to have a bad time.
We teach at partner studios in the Merchant City and over in Finnieston, with the precise venue shared when you book. Both sit minutes from Glasgow Central and Queen Street, and the Subway — the Clockwork Orange, as the city calls it — loops right past. With the Low Emission Zone covering the centre, arriving by rail is the smart play.
Nobody needs to bring a partner and nobody arrives a dancer. Better yet, the Merchant City keeps a lively Latin social calendar, so Tuesday's class comes with a Saturday purpose: walk in solo, and within a month or two you are part of a scene rather than just a student.

Why Choose Bachata in Glasgow?
No Plus-One Required
Partner rotation is how the class runs, so solo dancers are the norm — and rotating is the fastest route to dancing well with anyone.
Music That Hooks You
Bachata's guitar-led songs are half the addiction. You will leave with a playlist as well as a basic step.
A Social Life Attached
The Merchant City's Latin nights give your new steps somewhere to go — classmates have a habit of becoming weekend dance friends.
Minutes From the Train
Studios sit close to Central, Queen Street and the Subway loop, so dancers come in from Paisley, Stirling and the whole west of Scotland.
Your Bachata Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
First Steps Together
Getting Started
The side basic, weight changes and your first led turn. Expect to laugh at yourself once, then land it.
What to Wear
Anything comfortable with smooth-soled shoes that let you pivot — trainers with too much grip make turning hard work.
The Conversation Starts
Lead & Follow
Signals begin making sense: you stop counting and start listening, and figures begin chaining together on their own.
Rotation Pays Off
Dancing with everybody teaches you to adapt — the skill that separates class dancers from social dancers.
Musicality & Flavour
Beyond the Steps
Body waves, syncopated footwork and playing with the guitar line instead of merely keeping time with it.
First Social Night
A Merchant City Latin night with classmates — nerve-racking for ten minutes, brilliant for the rest of them.
A Dancer in the Wild
Where You'll Be
Comfortable asking a stranger to dance and finishing the song smiling — which is the entire point of bachata.
What Comes Next
Sensual-style bodywork, salsa as a second language, or simply more nights out dancing than you had planned for.
Bachata in Glasgow FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Which parts of Glasgow do the bachata classes run in? +
Our partner studios are in the Merchant City and Finnieston, with the exact venue confirmed once you book. Both are a short hop from Central and Queen Street stations, and the Subway drops you close by.
What does a bachata class in Glasgow cost? +
£8 to drop in — no membership, no strings. Turn up, dance, decide if you are coming back. Discounted blocks follow once your studio's regular slot is settled.
I've got no Latin dance background — does that matter? +
Not remotely. Bachata's basic is a walking step with a tap; if you can sway at a wedding, you can start. Beginner sessions assume nothing and build slowly.
What should I wear for bachata? +
Clothes you can move and turn in, plus shoes with a smooth-ish sole — heavy-tread trainers fight you on every pivot. Some follows bring low heels later on; they are never required.
Do I have to bring somebody to dance with? +
No — most people come alone. We rotate partners throughout the class, which keeps the room friendly and makes everybody better, faster.
Is bachata easier than salsa? +
For most beginners, yes — the basic is slower and more forgiving, which is why so many Glasgow dancers start here. Plenty add salsa later; the two share a social scene and a dance floor.
Do we have to dance really close together? +
No. Class figures work at a respectful, comfortable distance, and you control your own frame. Close-hold styling exists in bachata, but it is always opt-in — never the price of entry.
What kind of music is bachata danced to? +
Guitar-led Dominican bachata — from classic romantic tracks to modern remixes of pop songs you already know. Fair warning: it colonises a playlist quickly.
Are there places to dance bachata socially in Glasgow? +
Yes — the Merchant City hosts regular Latin social nights where bachata shares the floor with salsa. Your teachers will point you to the current ones, and going along with classmates is the tradition.
