Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Loosen and Sway
Shoulder rolls, hip figure-eights and a slow walk down the room. We settle the body into the unhurried, deliberate tempo burlesque runs on — nothing here is meant to be rushed.
The Tease Kit
The building blocks: the shimmy, the boa drape, the glove peel and that knowing over-the-shoulder look. Each one is isolated and drilled slowly, because a reveal only works when it is placed, not hurried.
Around the Chair
Sitting, leaning and rising choreography around a single chair — the cabaret centrepiece. We take the transitions apart so they feel secure well before they feel sultry.
String It Together
The moves join into a short number to one track. We work out where an audience's eye would travel and how a held, confident pause can say far more than any busy sequence.
Wind Down
We stretch the hips and shoulders and, if the group fancies it, take an optional boa photo. However you arrived, you leave standing a little taller.
About Burlesque Classes in Preston
Burlesque is the art of the slow reveal — a performance form that swaps speed for suggestion and puts wit, personality and self-possession centre stage. Our Preston class teaches the vocabulary straight: the walk, the glove peel, the boa, the shimmy and the chair routine, all at a tempo that grows confidence instead of nerves. Nothing has to come off — the tease itself is the entire point, and it stays firmly in your control.
Preston has a genuine after-dark side that suits the style. The late bars and cabaret-friendly rooms around Church Street and Fishergate, and the drinks spots near the old Adelphi corner of town, give burlesque a real home here rather than a borrowed one. We are honest about the scene, though: there is no long-standing resident troupe we are pretending to be part of. What we offer is the craft itself, taught properly.
You need none of that nightlife to join us. Most people arrive having never done anything like it, discover that the confidence is a skill you can practise rather than a gift you either have or don't, and take it home with them. £8 a drop-in, come as you are, and leave a fraction bolder than you walked in.

Why Choose Burlesque in Preston?
Confidence Is the Real Lesson
The moves are the vehicle; self-possession is the destination. People consistently say the biggest thing they take away is how they carry themselves afterwards.
Nothing Has to Come Off
This is a dance class, fully clothed throughout. The tease lives in timing, attitude and a held glance — the reveal is always yours to keep as suggestion.
Every Body Belongs Here
Burlesque has always celebrated real bodies of every shape, age and size. The room is deliberately warm, un-judgemental and built to make you feel wonderful in your own skin.
Central and Simple to Reach
We run near Fishergate and the Flag Market, a short walk from the station and bus-station car parks — easy to reach for a class or the start of a night out in town.
Your Burlesque Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
First Nerves, First Wins
Weeks 1-3
You learn the walk and a handful of isolated moves — the shimmy, the glance, a simple boa pose — in a room that laughs with you, never at you.
What shifts
The blush of the first class fades and playfulness takes over. That shift alone is why most people come back.
Finding the Tease
Weeks 4-8
The glove peel and chair transitions start to feel deliberate rather than daunting. You learn that slower is stronger and that a pause can carry a whole phrase.
What shifts
You stop hurrying to the next move and start savouring the one you are in.
Owning a Number
Months 3-5
A full short routine comes together and we polish the performance — eye-line, timing and the confident stillness that makes an audience lean in.
What shifts
Personality becomes the point. The routine reads as unmistakably yours.
Cabaret-Ready
Month 6 onward
You carry longer numbers with genuine command and pick up new choreography with ease, whether just for the joy of it or for a group performance.
What shifts
The confidence is no longer an act you put on for the class — it is simply how you move now.
Burlesque in Preston FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
What happens in a burlesque class? +
You learn the classic vocabulary — the walk, the shimmy, the glove peel, the boa and a chair routine — and stitch it into a short number. In Preston we teach it as a confidence-first hour, fully clothed, with a strong focus on attitude and timing.
Do I have to take anything off? +
No, never. This is a dance class and you stay fully dressed throughout. The 'tease' is entirely about suggestion, timing and a knowing look — the reveal is always yours to keep.
Do I need dance experience or a certain body type? +
Neither. Burlesque famously celebrates every shape, age and size, and the class is built for complete beginners. If you can walk across a room, you can start.
Is there really a burlesque scene in Preston? +
Preston has a genuine after-dark character around Church Street and Fishergate, so the style fits the city well. We are upfront, though: we are not claiming to be a resident troupe — we simply teach the craft properly.
What should I wear to class? +
Comfortable clothes you can move in, plus a heel if you have one — trainers are fine to start. If you own a boa or gloves, bring them for fun; if not, you will manage completely without.
How much does a class cost? +
A flat £8 per drop-in session in Preston, paid one class at a time. There is no membership and no contract — you come to whichever classes suit you.
Where in Preston is it held? +
On the central Fishergate and Flag Market side of the city, with the studio confirmed on booking. It sits within the walkable station-to-bus-station triangle, with car parks close by.
What ages does the class cover? +
The adult session runs roughly 17 to 75. Burlesque rewards confidence and character over youth, so the room usually holds a broad range of ages.
Can I book burlesque for a hen party? +
Yes — it is a hen favourite. The same class runs privately for your group at a flat-rate quote, a cheeky, confidence-boosting way to celebrate together in Preston.
