Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

First few minutes

Warm and Watch

We loosen wrists, knees and neck for the sharp hits the style asks for, then watch the target section a couple of times so everyone can see where the routine is heading.

Warming in

Break the Formation

The choreography gets pulled apart into its counts and its floor pattern — who stands where, who moves when — because K-pop is as much about the shapes the group makes as the steps themselves.

Middle stretch

Learn the Point Move

The signature hook everyone recognises is taught first and slowly, drilled until it is clean, since it is the moment the whole routine is remembered by.

Building up

Chain the Section

The counts link into one full section of the dance, run at half speed and then closer to tempo, with the group syncing edges so it starts to look like the video.

Last stretch

Run It to Music

We perform the section full-out a few times, film it if the group wants a keepsake, and stretch down so nobody seizes up the next morning.

About K-Pop Classes in Durham

K-pop dance means learning the actual choreography from the videos — the sharp, synchronised group routines that Korean pop is built around, full of clean formations, sudden level changes and a "point" move made to be copied. It rewards precision and repetition more than freestyle flair, which is exactly why it is so satisfying to nail as a group.

Durham's K-pop energy runs mostly through the university — student societies learning covers in term time — and there is no standing year-round adult class in the city that we run. Rather than invent one, we bring K-pop to you: you gather the group, pick a track everyone loves, and we break its routine down section by section in a hall, a studio or wherever suits, across Durham City and the county.

Sessions most often land around Elvet, Gilesgate and Neville's Cross in the city, with outer legs to Chester-le-Street and Newton Aycliffe. Durham has no Metro, so for a shared venue plan the park-and-ride, the Prince Bishops car park or the walk up from the station; the peninsula's gradients are worth flat trainers for. The room is always confirmed when you book.

Why Choose K-Pop in Durham?

Sync Is the Point

We drill formations and timing, not just steps, because a K-pop routine only lands when the group hits it together — and getting there as a team is half the fun.

We Come to You

No pretend weekly hub — you choose the track and the place, and we bring the teacher and the breakdown to a hall or studio anywhere in Durham City or the county.

Any Track, Section by Section

Pick a song the group loves and we teach its real choreography in digestible sections, at a pace built for beginners rather than trainees.

City and County

Elvet, Gilesgate and Neville's Cross inside Durham, plus outer legs to Chester-le-Street and Newton Aycliffe — the same session travels to wherever your group gathers.

Your K-Pop Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Session 1

First Section Down

What comes together

By the end of one session the group can dance the signature hook and a short opening section, slowly but in time with each other.

What we build in

The habit of counting together and watching your neighbours, which is what keeps a K-pop routine sharp rather than scrappy.

A few in

Cleaning It Up

What comes together

The half-speed version tightens toward tempo, the formations stop drifting, and the section begins to resemble the video rather than an approximation of it.

What we build in

Sharper hits and cleaner transitions between counts, so the routine gains the crispness the style is known for.

Halfway

A Whole Routine

What comes together

The sections join into a full song's choreography the group can run start to finish, including the floor changes that make it look like a proper performance.

What we build in

Stamina and spacing under pressure, so you can hold your position and your energy right through the track.

Show-ready

Filming It

What comes together

The routine reaches the point where a phone in the corner is welcome — the group hitting the moves together, in formation, at full speed.

What we build in

Small performance polish — facial energy, confident angles — that turns a learned dance into one worth watching back.

K-Pop in Durham FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Is there a weekly K-pop class in Durham? +

Not one we run, and we would rather say so. Durham's K-pop mostly lives in university societies during term; we bring it to you instead — you assemble a group, choose a track, and we teach its routine wherever suits across the city and the county.

Where do the sessions happen? +

Wherever your group is based — often Elvet, Gilesgate and Neville's Cross in the city, with trips out to Chester-le-Street and Newton Aycliffe. A hall or studio with a bit of floor and a mirror is ideal, and the exact venue is confirmed on booking.

Can we choose the song? +

Yes — that is rather the point. Pick a track the group loves and we teach its actual choreography, section by section. If you would like a suggestion to match your numbers and experience, just ask and we will offer a few.

How much does it cost? +

A drop-in place is eight pounds when a session runs; a private come-to-you booking for your own group is quoted plainly once we know the numbers and the venue. No memberships, no upfront terms, nothing ticking over afterwards.

Do we need any experience? +

None. We teach the routine slowly, break the hard parts down and build the formations from scratch, so a group of complete beginners can still walk away with a section that looks like the video.

How many people do we need? +

K-pop shines as a group because the formations and syncing are half the appeal, so a handful of friends upward works best. Smaller bookings are possible too — ask and we will tell you honestly what will work.

What should we wear? +

Comfortable clothes you can move sharply in and clean trainers with a smooth sole for turning. Bring water, and if we are meeting at a city-centre venue, flat shoes help with the peninsula's slopes and cobbles.

Do you film the routine? +

Only if the group wants it. Plenty of people book us precisely for a filmed cover to keep or share, so we will happily run the finished section to camera — but there is never any pressure to record.

Can you do a one-off for a birthday or hen do? +

Absolutely. A K-pop routine is a popular birthday, hen or work-social booking, and we will bring the whole section-by-section session to a venue anywhere in Durham City or out across the county — just send numbers and a date.
