Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Steps in Silence

We warm up gently, then walk the first moves through with no music at all, letting the running order lodge in your legs while there is still no tempo pushing you along.

10–25 mins

The Caller Builds It

One by one the caller lays out the pieces — a grapevine, a heel dig, a quarter turn — each demonstrated slowly and added to whatever is already sitting in your feet from a minute ago.

25–40 mins

Everything Joins Up

The individual moves fuse into the complete dance, looped again and again until you own the sequence and the caller's voice becomes reassurance rather than a rope you are clinging to.

40–50 mins

Music On, Full Tilt

Up comes the track at its proper speed, and that is the moment the room tips from concentration into fun — muttered counts drop away and grins take over.

50–60 mins

One Last Favourite, Then Ease Off

We round the hour off with everyone's pick of the night's dances and a gentle cool-down to loosen the legs before you head out.

About Line Dancing Classes in Brighton

The handy thing about a line night is that it can happen almost anywhere — all it really wants is a flat, unbroken stretch of floor. Come in to a room near the centre if you like, or gather a few friends and we will load the caller, the speakers and the set list into the car and bring the evening to you. Along the Sussex coast that travels beautifully: Hove, Portslade, Rottingdean, Saltdean, Preston Park and Shoreham are all a short, level hop out of town, which is what makes line dance classes in Brighton so easy to arrange as a group.

Two fears usually stop people trying: turning up alone, and not knowing a single step. Line dancing quietly removes both. Every dancer stands in rows pointing the same way, all doing the identical move at once, and the caller announces each step a beat before you need it — so if you blank, you just copy the back of the head in front. Making it through a whole dance on night one is completely normal, not some rare triumph.

And do drop the mental image of endless rhinestones and Stetsons. A typical evening leans far more on Motown, chart pop and a deep well of trusty floor-fillers, with the occasional country track ambling through rather than taking over. Kit is a non-issue — you just want a shoe with a sole that slips and turns instead of gripping. A class is £8; a come-to-you group night is charged as a single tidy booking fee. And the line mixes every age at once, teenagers lined up next to great-grandparents.

Why Choose Line Dancing in Brighton?

We Pack the Evening Into the Car

Round up a group and the whole show arrives on your doorstep — caller, sound system and playlist, driven out to Hove, Portslade, Rottingdean, Saltdean, Preston Park or wherever along the coast you happen to be.

Solo Suits It Perfectly

With everybody facing forward on matching steps, walking in by yourself passes completely unnoticed. A gap appears in the row and you are away on the opening number.

Far More Than Cowboy Songs

Soul, pop and Motown carry the bulk of a night, with a country number cropping up here and there. You only get a full hoedown if your group actually requests one.

Gentle Enough for Any Age

Low-impact, self-paced and endlessly sociable, it welcomes just about everyone — our rows routinely put people in their twenties alongside dancers comfortably past eighty.

Your Line Dancing Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Your First Night

Straight Into a Dance

A Whole Routine Done

You walk out of session one having actually completed a full dance — a reward this quick is rare in any style.

Zero Preparation

Just comfy clothes and a smooth sole that glides. No boots, no hat, no trip to the shops in advance.

The Early Weeks

Stacking Them Up

The Pile Grows

You gather a run of complete dances, each assembled from scratch, and the moves that recur begin to stick faster than you would expect.

Trusting the Call

You settle into the caller's timing and rely a bit less each week on watching the dancer in front.

A Month or Two Later

No Cue Needed

It Comes Automatically

Well-worn dances surface on their own, letting you actually enjoy the music instead of bracing for the next move.

Raising the Bar

Faster numbers and the occasional syncopated count slot in to keep you honest, now the basics look after themselves.

A Fixture

Part of the Furniture

Familiar Ground

The dances, the faces and the room are all second nature now, and the night doubles as a social as much as exercise.

Out and About

Charity socials, themed nights, or us running a line evening for a party of yours somewhere along the coast.

Line Dancing in Brighton FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Will you honestly travel to us, or do we have to come in? +

We will travel, and those are genuinely favourite bookings. Hand us a group and the caller and PA head out to your venue — Hove, Portslade, Rottingdean, Saltdean and Shoreham are all quick, flat drives. All you provide is a level, even floor.

Is there a fixed class as well, or only come-to-you? +

Both exist. Group come-to-you nights cover the coast, and for individuals we can steer you to a partner room near the centre, a short walk from Brighton station, address supplied once you book.

What is the cost? +

£8 a session, handed over on the night, no membership and no tie-in. Turn up when it suits and pay as you go. A come-to-you group night is billed as one flat fee for the whole booking, not per person.

Can an absolute beginner cope with the first evening? +

Almost always. Every dance is walked through slowly with the music off, and the caller names each move right as it is due. Newcomers finish a full routine on their first night more often than not, usually a bit stunned they managed it.

Is a partner required? +

Never — that is rather the point. Everyone performs identical steps in neat rows, so there is simply nobody to pair with. Alone, with a friend or in a big group, it makes no difference to how you join in.

Will it be all country music? +

Barely any, in fact. Motown, pop and soul do the heavy lifting, and country is one flavour among many. People turning up expecting wall-to-wall Stetsons usually leave pleasantly surprised by the mix.

Which shoes work best? +

Anything with a smooth base that slides and turns — flat pumps or low-grip trainers are spot on. Avoid thick, sticky soles; they catch on the pivots and start to nag at the knees over a whole evening.

Have I left it too late to start? +

Almost certainly not; few dances open their arms to every age like this. It is kind on the body, moves at your speed and is thoroughly social — plenty of people take it up in retirement and thrive.

Could you host a line night for a celebration? +

Definitely — hen dos, birthdays, office parties and club nights are some of the most fun jobs we do. We haul the music, the caller and the whole evening to you anywhere along the Sussex coast. Just flag the occasion on the form.
