Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Warm and Sultry
We loosen the neck, spine and hips with a slinky warm-up that doubles as an attitude lesson — because in burlesque how you move matters far more than how far you move. By the end you are limber, grinning and already carrying yourself a couple of inches taller.
The Slink
Next comes the walk that underpins every number: a rolling, unhurried strut with the hips leading and the eyes daring anyone to look away. We drill it up and down the floor until it stops feeling like acting and starts feeling like you on a very good day.
Prop and Peel
Now the fun toys arrive — a feather boa to swish, a glove to draw off one finger at a time, a chair to drape over. We break down the classic reveals so the tease is deliberate and slow, teaching your hands to promise plenty while giving away almost nothing.
Building the Number
The struts, poses and prop-play thread together into a short routine with a proper beginning, a build and a knockout final pose. We rehearse the joins so the whole thing purrs along and every beat has its own little flourish of drama.
Run and Reveal
We take the finished number through a few full runs with the music, chasing the character rather than counting steps, then ease down with a stretch. You leave with a routine in your pocket and a noticeably bolder tilt to your chin.
About Burlesque Classes in Bournemouth
Burlesque is theatre first and striptease a distant second. What you are really learning is the art of the wink — how to hold a room, stretch a single glove-peel across eight glorious counts, and let a raised eyebrow do more work than any high kick. Cheek, character and control run the whole show, so the emphasis lands on attitude and timing rather than flexibility or how hard you can throw yourself around. You keep every stitch you arrive in; the tease is all suggestion and mischief.
Few towns wear vintage glamour as easily as Bournemouth. This is a resort that grew up on feathers, footlights and the promise of a good night out, and you can still feel it in the Russell-Cotes villa on the East Cliff, with its jewel-box rooms and unapologetic opulence — a gorgeous mood board for anyone learning to preen. The Triangle, long the beating heart of the town's independent and LGBTQ+ nightlife, keeps a cheeky cabaret spirit ticking over just off the main drag. Our burlesque classes in Bournemouth borrow that seaside-cabaret swagger without pretending to be tied to any particular bar or performer — we simply take our cue from a town that has always known how to put on a show.
No experience is needed and nothing is bought in advance. We build the moves gently, one playful layer at a time, so a first-timer feels every bit as at home as someone who has vamped before. Heels are optional and bare feet are absolutely fine; wear whatever lets you move and pose with a grin. Your studio is confirmed when you book, and each drop-in stays a flat £8 with no block or membership hanging over you.

Why Choose Burlesque in Bournemouth?
Confidence, Unlaced
Nothing rewires how you carry yourself quite like an hour spent practising eye contact, poise and the fine art of taking up space. Dancers routinely tell us the swagger they find in class starts following them out the door and into the rest of the week.
A Class for Every Body
Burlesque was built to celebrate real bodies of every shape, age and size, and ours holds that promise firmly. There is no ideal silhouette to chase here — the style flatters exactly who you already are and asks only that you enjoy yourself.
Playful, Never Pressured
This is glamour with its tongue in its cheek, so the room runs on laughter rather than nerves. You choose your own comfort line and never cross it; the tease is always suggestion, wit and character, entirely on your terms.
Sparkle That Lingers
The posture, musical timing and sheer performance nerve you pocket here spill straight into heels, cabaret and any night you fancy making an entrance. Plenty of dancers find it the most useful hour of stagecraft they ever take.
Your Burlesque Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Finding Your Strut
Posture and Presence
The first few weeks are all about how you stand, walk and hold a look — the quiet foundations that make everything later read as effortless. We keep the steps light so you can pour your attention into attitude instead of choreography.
What to Bring
Leggings or shorts you can move in, plus a heel if you own one, though bare feet are completely welcome. A boa or gloves are handy once you catch the bug, but we have props to share while you settle in.
Owning the Tease
Prop Play
You start folding boas, gloves and chairs into your movement, learning to make a single slow reveal land like a punchline. This is where the cheek really blooms and the routines gain their theatrical bite.
Musical Teasing
We sharpen your feel for holding a beat and making the audience wait, because a well-placed pause is worth a dozen busy moves. Timing, not speed, becomes your secret weapon.
Your Signature Number
A Routine to Keep
By now you are performing a complete number with a build and a showstopper finish, danced with genuine character rather than counted out. It becomes the party piece you can pull out whenever the mood strikes.
Finding Your Persona
Some dancers discover a whole stage alter-ego — a name, a look, a signature move. We help you shape yours so the glamour feels authentically, unmistakably you.
A Character of Your Own
Going Further
The deeper you go, the more you can play with story, styling and staging, building numbers that are entirely your invention. Burlesque has no finish line — it just keeps handing you new ways to shine.
Hen Parties and Groups
Burlesque is a riot for a private group or a celebration. If you would rather gather your friends for a one-off, our themed burlesque hen party runs the same tease with a proper party wrapped around it.
Burlesque in Bournemouth FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Do I need any dance experience? +
Not a scrap. Burlesque leans on character and confidence far more than technique, so complete beginners fit in perfectly and pick it up quickly. We teach every move from the ground up at a friendly, unhurried pace.
Do I have to take anything off? +
Never. Ours is the theatrical, fully-clothed side of burlesque — all about the art of the tease with gloves, boas and attitude. You stay exactly as covered as you like from the first class to the last.
What should I wear? +
Something you can strut and pose in — leggings or shorts with a fitted top works a treat. A heel adds swagger if you have one, but bare feet are fine, and a boa or gloves are a fun extra once you are hooked.
Where in Bournemouth are the classes? +
In studios around the town centre near the Lansdowne and Old Christchurch Road, with a Westbourne and West Cliff option too, all confirmed once you book. We keep to Bournemouth itself rather than neighbouring Poole or Christchurch.
How much does a class cost? +
Every session is a flat £8, paid one class at a time. There is no joining fee, no block booking and no membership — you simply come along on the weeks that suit you and skip the ones that do not.
Is it a good workout? +
More than it lets on. The controlled walks, deep hip work and long held poses fire up the core and legs, while the constant grinning keeps it feeling like a night out rather than a gym session.
Will I feel self-conscious? +
Almost everyone worries about that and almost everyone forgets it within twenty minutes. The room is warm, giggly and wholly supportive, and the whole style is designed to help you feel bolder in your own skin.
Is there an age limit? +
Our adult classes run from 17 to 75, and burlesque genuinely suits every one of those years. It rewards presence and personality over athletics, so you dance to your own body and your own comfort throughout.
Can we book a private group? +
Absolutely, and burlesque is a brilliant choice for one. Whether it is a birthday, a hen do or simply friends after a laugh, tell us your group and vibe and we will tailor a cheeky session to match.
