Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Loosening Up
We start by warming the hips, waist and shoulders and settling into a soft, grounded stance, easing the body into the loose, fluid movement that belly dance is built on.
Hip Isolations
The heart of the style comes first — hip drops, lifts and slow figure-eights — moving one part of the body while the rest stays calm, which is the skill everything else grows from.
Shimmies and Layers
We build the shimmy, that fast fluttering vibration through the hips, and begin layering it over the slower moves so two things happen at once, the trick that makes belly dance mesmerising.
Arms and Framing
Now the arms — the soft snake arms and flowing hand shapes that frame the hips and give the dance its graceful, storytelling quality.
Putting It to Music
We thread the evening's moves into a short flowing routine danced to a proper Middle Eastern rhythm, the point where the isolations turn into a real, expressive dance.
About Belly Dance Classes in Blackpool
Belly dance, with roots across the Middle East and North Africa, is built on isolations — moving the hips, chest and arms independently to a hypnotic rhythm. It is expressive, low-impact and famously welcoming of every shape and age, which is exactly why our belly dance classes in Blackpool start gently with the core hip drops and shimmies and let confidence build naturally from there.
Blackpool has always been a town that loves colour, spectacle and dressing up — a century and more of variety, cabaret and end-of-pier showmanship runs through the place, and the annual Illuminations turn the seafront into a river of light every autumn. Belly dance's sparkle and drama fit that celebratory character beautifully, and there is a small but warm community of Middle Eastern and world-dance enthusiasts along the Fylde who keep the style alive here. Ours is an independent beginners' class, focused simply on teaching you the moves and the joy of them.
Classes run at a central studio confirmed once you book, with no partner needed and absolutely no experience assumed — just yourself and something comfortable that lets your hips move. We are easy to reach on the Promenade tramway and the local buses, with Blackpool North and Blackpool South stations both nearby, and we can also bring a belly dance session out to groups and hen parties across the coast.

Why Choose Belly Dance in Blackpool?
Every Body Welcome
Belly dance is famous for celebrating all shapes, sizes and ages, and our class carries that warm, body-positive spirit from the very first evening.
Gentle on the Body
It is a low-impact dance that works the core, waist and posture without any jumping or strain, which makes it kind to joints while still leaving you glowing.
Colour and Confidence
In a town built on sparkle and spectacle, belly dance is a wonderfully expressive way to loosen up, feel graceful and rediscover a little confidence in how you move.
We Come to Your Group
A belly dance session makes a memorable group booking, and we bring it to hen parties and celebrations right across Blackpool and the Fylde coast.
Your Belly Dance Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
The Foundation
First Isolations
Hip drops, lifts and slow figure-eights, learned one at a time until moving the hips on their own feels comfortable.
What to Wear
Comfortable clothes that let the hips show their movement — a fitted top and leggings work well; a coin scarf is fun but optional.
Adding Movement
The Shimmy
Building that fast fluttering hip vibration and learning to keep it going steadily while you move.
Snake Arms
The soft flowing arm shapes that frame the hips and give the dance its graceful line.
Layering Up
Combinations
Layering a shimmy over slower moves and joining isolations into short travelling sequences.
Musicality
Reading the drum and the melody so your movements answer the rhythm rather than run past it.
Dancing With Expression
Full Routines
Flowing sequences danced to Middle Eastern music from start to finish, with control and confidence.
Your Own Flair
Letting your personality and a little drama into the dance, so it becomes expression rather than exercise.
Belly Dance in Blackpool FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Do I need any experience or a certain body type? +
Neither. Belly dance is genuinely for every shape, size and age, and our class is built for complete beginners. We start with the simplest hip movements and grow from there, so first-timers fit in from the moment they walk in.
Do I need a partner? +
No — belly dance is danced solo, so you come on your own and work at your own pace. There is no partnering, and nobody is singled out in front of the room.
Is it a good workout? +
It is a lovely low-impact one. Belly dance quietly works the core, waist and posture with no jumping or pounding, so it is kind to the joints while still toning and improving how you carry yourself.
What should I wear? +
Comfortable clothes that let your hips move, such as leggings and a fitted top, are perfect. A coin scarf tied round the hips makes the movement easier to see and adds to the fun, but it is entirely optional. Bare feet or soft shoes are both fine.
Will I have to perform in front of people? +
Not unless you want to. This is a relaxed, supportive class where everyone is learning together, and the focus is on enjoying the movement rather than putting on a show.
How much does it cost? +
A flat £8 on the night, with nothing paid in advance. There is no membership and no course to commit to — you simply attend whenever it suits and pay as you go.
Where in Blackpool are the classes held? +
At a central studio near the town centre and the seafront, with the exact address sent when you book. It is easy to reach from the Promenade and the main stations.
How do I get there without a car? +
Blackpool's Promenade tramway runs along the seafront and the buses cover the town, while Blackpool North and Blackpool South stations bring trains from across the region. A tram or bus will leave you a short walk away.
Can you teach my group or hen party? +
Absolutely — a belly dance class is a favourite for hen dos and celebrations. We bring the whole session to your own venue and cover Blackpool and the entire Fylde coast. Just tell us your date and numbers.
