Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Warm-Up & Timing
Loosen the knees and hips, then feel out the bachata count — three steps and a soft tap — until the music starts doing the counting for you.
The Basic Steps
Side basic, forward-and-back and the gentle hip motion that gives bachata its sway, drilled slowly on your own before any hold.
Partner Connection
Into a relaxed frame with a partner, learning to lead and follow the basics through the hands and body, rotating so you dance with everyone.
Turns & Musicality
A simple turn or two and how to change direction, plus catching a song's slow and quick moments so the dance breathes.
Social Round & Cool-Down
Put it all together in a relaxed mini-social to the week's track, then an easy stretch to finish.
About Bachata Classes in Norwich
Bachata came out of the Dominican Republic as a slow, romantic partner dance, and it stays close and grounded where salsa races and spins. The count is a simple side-to-side with a lift on the fourth beat, so the footwork lands fast and the feeling of really dancing turns up long before any technique does.
Norwich already has a warm Latin following. Norwich Latin Dance teaches adult salsa and bachata, and Cuban-salsa socials appear around the centre through the year, so once the basics stick there is somewhere real to use them. Our beginners' hour runs from a city-centre studio around Chapel Field and the Norwich Lanes, with the exact room shared when you book.
The compact centre makes an after-work class genuinely easy: the railway station sits over on the Riverside side near Prince of Wales Road, a short walk in, and the Park & Ride sites ring the city for anyone driving from the Golden Triangle or out towards Wymondham. Come alone or as a pair — we rotate partners so nobody is ever left standing.

The Basic & the Sway

Just smooth-soled shoes and a willingness to rotate partners; no experience and no partner required.
Leading & Following
The Connection
Reading and giving a gentle lead through the frame, so the dance works with anyone across the room.

Simple turns and direction changes that make the basic start to feel like real social dancing.
Musical & Smooth

Out on the Social Floor

Sensual bachata, more turn patterns, or salsa alongside it — the door is wide open.
Bachata in Norwich FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Do I need to bring a partner to bachata classes in Norwich? +
Not at all. We rotate partners through the class, so you learn to lead or follow with everyone in the room. Come on your own or come as a pair — either works, and most people actually arrive solo.
I've genuinely never danced — is bachata a good place to start? +
It's one of the kindest starts there is. Bachata's basic is a simple side-to-side step at a gentle pace, so the feeling of actually dancing turns up in your first hour rather than months later.
Whereabouts in Norwich are the bachata classes held? +
Our beginners' hour runs from a city-centre studio around Chapel Field and the Norwich Lanes, with a Riverside room as an alternative. The exact address is confirmed when you book, and we also come to you for groups.
How much does a bachata class in Norwich cost? +
Every drop-in is a flat £8 — no membership and no block you are locked into, just pay for the class you turn up to. Discounted blocks will follow once the regular Norwich timetable is set.
What should I wear on my feet? +
A smooth-soled shoe that lets you pivot — leather-soled shoes, dance sandals or even socks all beat grippy trainers, which tend to catch on the floor. Otherwise, comfy clothes you can move in.
What's the difference between bachata and salsa? +
Salsa is quick, circular and spin-heavy; bachata is slower, closer and rocks side to side with a soft hip lift. Bachata is usually the easier first step, and plenty of people end up doing both.
Where can I dance bachata socially in Norwich? +
Once the basics stick, Norwich Latin Dance and the city's Cuban-salsa socials give you somewhere real to use them. We are happy to point you towards the current nights — we don't pretend to run them all ourselves.
Is there a modern or sensual bachata side to this? +
We start with the traditional Dominican basics, then introduce touches of modern and sensual bachata as the class progresses — body movement and styling — without ever rushing anyone past their comfort.
Can you teach bachata for a hen do or private group in Norwich? +
Yes. We bring a one-off bachata class straight to your venue, hotel or Airbnb anywhere across Norwich and Norfolk — a popular, slightly different hen-do idea. Use the form with your date and numbers.
