Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Walk It Through Dry

We loosen off, then step the opening moves at walking pace with the music off, letting the pattern settle into your legs before any beat arrives.

10–25 mins

A Name for Each Move

Each one is named and shown slowly on its own — the grapevine, the pivot, the kick-ball-change — and stacked a step at a time onto what's already in your legs.

25–40 mins

Run the Whole Dance

The named moves link into the full sequence, looped around until your feet find it without needing to be told.

40–50 mins

Music On

The track comes on and you take the whole thing up to speed — the point it flips from rehearsal into an actual dance.

50–60 mins

Old Favourite, Then Cool

One more go at whichever dance the room loved most, then a gentle wind-down and stretch to close the hour.

About Line Dancing Classes in Norwich

Line dancing lines everyone up in rows, all pointing the same way and all on identical steps — so there's nothing to rehearse in advance and nobody you need to partner with. A caller flags each move a beat before it's needed, and you follow the row ahead until it clicks. Plenty of first-timers dance a full routine start to finish on night one.

The thing that makes a Norwich line class distinctive is how portable it is. Some people prefer a central room, but all the dance really needs is a level floor — so a group booking means we pack the sound system and the caller into the boot and deliver the evening to your door. Wymondham, Dereham, Aylsham and Sprowston, plus the villages nearby, are all easy drives.

And you can set the cowboy image aside — pop, Motown and dependable crowd-pleasers make up a good chunk of the night, with country tracks turning up only now and then. There's no dress code; your shoes simply need to pivot smoothly rather than stick, so the grippiest trainers can stay home. Classes are £8, and since Norwich has no tram or metro it's the bus, Park & Ride or a short drive in. Every age group shares the floor, under-eighteens among them.

Why Choose Line Dancing in Norwich?

The Night Comes to You

Gather a group and the whole thing comes to you — caller, speakers and a full session driven out to your Norfolk hall, from Wymondham and Dereham to Aylsham and Sprowston.

Turn Up Alone

Because everybody works the same steps facing the same direction, coming on your own is the norm here — you're absorbed into the line from the very first number.

Far More Than Country

Expect soul, pop and Motown as much as anything with a twang — the country songs are just one colour, so it's only a cowboy-hat night if your group specifically wants that.

All Ages, One Floor

Teens and grandparents end up in the same row without a second thought — few of our classes mix the generations so freely, and it's a friendlier night for it.

Your Line Dancing Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Night 1

Dancing Straight Away

Your First Dance

By the end of your first evening you'll have danced a full routine right through — few styles let a beginner do that so quickly.

What You Need

Comfortable clothes and smooth-soled shoes that turn without catching. Leave the hat, the boots and any pre-class shopping at home.

Weeks 2–6

Building a Repertoire

More Dances

You collect several complete dances, each learned from scratch, and the repetition beds them in faster than you'd expect.

Catching the Call

You start hearing the caller and reacting in time, leaning on the row in front a little less each week.

Months 2–4

Off the Cuff

From Memory

Familiar dances begin surfacing without prompting, freeing you to enjoy the music instead of watching your feet.

Quicker Steps

Faster dances and syncopated footwork appear, keeping things fresh once the basics feel easy.

Ongoing

One of the Regulars

Settled In

The room, the routines and a good few of the regulars are all familiar now — these evenings are as much about the company as the exercise.

What's Beyond

Charity fundraisers, group nights out, or booking us to run a line session at your own celebration somewhere in Norfolk.

Line Dancing in Norwich FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Can you really bring line dancing out to us in Norfolk? +

Absolutely — it's a job we love. Book as a group and we'll bring the caller, the PA and the whole class to your venue, driving out to Wymondham, Dereham, Aylsham, Sprowston and the villages around them.

Could a total beginner manage on the first night? +

Very comfortably. We step through each dance at walking pace before any music plays, and the caller talks you through every move in real time — most first-timers dance a complete routine before the night is out.

Do I need a partner? +

No partner needed. Since the whole room works identical steps in lines, there's simply no pairing up involved — plenty of people come on their own and it's completely usual.

Is it all country music? +

Nothing like it. Pop, Motown, soul and a lot more make up most nights; country is one strand among several, and if that's not your taste it barely features.

What footwear works best for line dancing? +

A smooth sole you can pivot on is all it takes — flat shoes or low-grip trainers do nicely. Steer clear of chunky, high-grip soles, which tend to catch just as you turn.

Where's the studio class in Norwich? +

Centrally, near the Lanes and Chapel Field, easy to reach by bus and Park & Ride, with the exact venue confirmed when you book. Groups elsewhere can simply have it brought to them.

What does a line dancing class in Norwich cost? +

One class costs £8, handed over on the night. Nothing to join, nothing to commit to — you rock up when it works for you and pay on the way in.

Am I too old to start line dancing? +

Very unlikely. It's one of the broadest age mixes we teach, grandparents and teens side by side, and because the steps grow gradually a later start puts you at no disadvantage.

Can you lay on a session for a celebration? +

Of course. A line-dance evening works a treat for a birthday, hen do or village get-together — we supply the lot and tune the tempo to your crowd. Mention what you're celebrating on the form.
