Dance Jobs Derby FAQ

The questions instructors tend to ask before joining the Derby team.

Do I need a teaching qualification to apply for dance jobs in Derby?

Preferred, but not a dealbreaker. What actually lands the role is solid training or stage experience plus the knack of commanding a room. A good few of our strongest teachers came to it straight from performing rather than from any certificate.

How much do dance instructors get paid in Derby?

Weekly classes begin at £22 an hour, while hen and wedding choreography starts at £25. The rate is fixed before each booking, paid on schedule, and nudged up as you take on more.

Which dance styles are you hiring for in Derby?

Every one of the twenty on the timetable — ballet and ballroom through to street, K-pop and heels — as well as hen party leaders and wedding choreographers. Teachers who can cover several styles tend to fill their Derby week the fastest.

Would this be full-time or freelance?

Freelance and flexible, arranged around your own availability. Some people teach one class a week; others pile up classes, weekend hen dos and school workshops into nearly a full week. None of it is use-it-or-lose-it.

I'm still auditioning and performing — can teaching work around that?

That is precisely the person we want. Most of the Derby team are working performers who teach in the gaps between contracts. Give us your rough pattern and we will build to it — then pause everything the week a tour comes in.
