Dancing the new routine to its track over and over until the counts stop being counts and just become the dance. The caller cues each turn.

About Line Dance Classes in Kent

Line dancing is a room full of people doing the same steps in unison, in lines, facing the same way, with nobody needing a partner. It runs on grapevines, shuffles, turns and syncopated footwork set to country, pop and Latin tracks, and it has a warm, loyal following right across Kent — village halls, community centres and social clubs from the Weald to the coast.

What has been patchier is a friendly beginner class you can just walk into. Because Kent is a big county and we come to you, we do not run one central line-dance venue — we bring sessions wherever a group forms and branch by hub: Maidstone and the Weald, the Medway towns off Rochester and Chatham, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Ashford by the International station, and the coastal towns. You start at whichever hall is nearest, confirmed when you book.

The great thing about line dancing is how quickly it rewards you — learn one dance and you can do it anywhere in the world it is called. You need no partner, no experience and no special kit; comfortable clothes and smooth-soled shoes that let you pivot are plenty. Since cross-Kent journeys can be long, we keep you to a local hub rather than sending you across the county.

Good for the Head

Following the caller and remembering sequences gives the memory a proper workout while the feet do the moving — sharp fun, not a slog.

Gentle on the Body

Low-impact, self-paced and sociable, with a new dance every week. £8 a session, drop-in, at a hub near you across Kent.

Line Dance in Kent FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

What is line dancing? +

Line dancing is a group dance where everyone performs the same choreographed steps in unison, in lines, facing the same way, with no partner required. Our Kent classes teach classic country line dances and modern variations set to pop, rock, country and Latin music.

Do I need a partner or any experience? +

Neither. That is the whole appeal — you dance in a line, not a couple, and we teach every dance from scratch. Come on your own or with friends; beginners are exactly who these Kent classes are built for.

Where in Kent do the line-dance classes run? +

Wherever a group forms — we are come-to-you across the county rather than one fixed venue. Hubs include Maidstone, the Medway towns, Tunbridge Wells, Ashford and the coast, with the hall confirmed when you book.

How much is a class? +

£8 a session, paid on the day, with no membership or contract. Once a hub's night is regular we will offer block booking. Registering your interest costs nothing at all.

What should I wear? +

Comfortable clothes and smooth-soled shoes that let you pivot and slide — trainers with heavy grip can catch on a turn. Boots are welcome but not required. Bring water.

Am I too old for line dancing? +

Definitely not. Line dancing is famously age-friendly, low-impact and self-paced; our adult sessions run 17 to 75 and it is one of the most mixed-age rooms we run anywhere in Kent.

How far will I travel across Kent? +

We keep you to a hall near home — Maidstone, Rochester, Chatham, Ashford International, Tunbridge Wells or a coastal town — rather than crossing the county, since Kent journeys can be long. Tell us your town for the nearest night.

Is it all country music? +

No. Country is the tradition, but modern line dances are set to pop, rock, Latin and chart tracks too. A typical Kent session mixes classic country dances with newer routines so there is something for every taste.

Can we book a private or group line-dance session? +

Yes — private classes and closed group sessions can be arranged at any Kent hub we cover, popular for parties, work socials and clubs. Send your town and rough numbers and we will quote a flat rate.
