Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Warm and Grounded

A gentle mobiliser eases the lower back and shoulders, and we drop the weight into a soft-kneed, tall-chested stance — the home position every isolation works from.

10–25 mins

The Building Blocks

Each move gets built on its own — a hip drop, a side slide, a chest lift — worked against the rhythm while the rest of you stays deliberately quiet.

25–40 mins

Stacking Them Up

The singles begin gathering into shimmies and short runs; the arms come in last, turning a pile of separate tricks into one connected phrase.

40–50 mins

Veil and Framing

An optional veil, soft wrist circles and arm lines go on to carry and finish the lower-body work — the difference between doing the moves and dancing them.

50–60 mins

The Whole Thing

You dance the linked sequence right through to the music a few times over, then ease down into a slow, satisfying stretch to finish the hour.

About Belly Dance Classes in Dundee

Belly dance predates almost every dance in the studio, and its whole engine is isolation — learning to move your hips while your shoulders stay still, your chest while your hips wait. It travels barely at all, stays gentle on the joints, and quietly firms up your core and posture, which is why the room fills with every age and shape.

In Dundee we keep it instructor-led instead of pinning it to a single weekly slot: a warm, women-friendly room in the centre by City Square, a West End space off Perth Road, or the whole session carried to your door. Which room you are in is settled at booking, and for a hen do we simply bring it to the group.

None of it is a trek — the centre room is a short walk up from the waterfront station, with buses covering the estates and Angus villages, and no tram to puzzle over. Come dressed however suits you; a coin-belt or veil is ours to lend for the fun of it, never a rule, and nobody is put in front of an audience unless they ask to be.

Why Choose Belly Dance in Dundee?

Anyone Can Isolate

It all comes down to shifting one body part while the others wait — something you pick up bit by bit. There is no fitness or flexibility barrier at the door, only a bit of patience required.

No Wrong Shape Here

No particular body is the template — the moves flex around whatever age, height or shape walks in, which is exactly why the room feels so easy and so mixed.

Brought to Your Door

Past the weekly class, we will pack belly dance up and deliver it to hen dos, birthdays and private groups anywhere across Dundee, Angus and north Fife.

Conditioning in Disguise

Those measured hip and midsection moves quietly firm up the core and lift the posture, so you get a light conditioning session wrapped inside something genuinely fun.

Your Belly Dance Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

First Sessions

Isolating the Basics

Starting Out

A hip drop, a side slide and an early shimmy, each taken apart and rehearsed alone until it no longer needs your whole attention.

What to Bring

Leggings and a snug top so the movement is visible; bare feet or soft shoes, and a coin scarf to borrow if the jingle appeals — though it is never asked for.

The Next Month

Finding the Flow

Joining Up

The separate moves begin running into one another, and the arms come in so the body speaks as one rather than in fragments.

On the Drum

You learn to place each move on the drum beneath the melody, rather than chasing the tune floating over the top.

A Few Months In

Bringing in the Frame

Veil Work

A real first turn with the veil, and phrases long enough to add up to something you would fairly call a routine.

Your Way

Gentle or crisp, teasing or grand — you land on the manner of moving that reads as unmistakably you.

Ongoing

Sure of Yourself

Should the Stage Beckon

Complete routines you could take to a floor — but only ever if performing is something you actively fancy.

Going Deeper

More technique, more props, more styling — or just a warm, easy hour you keep coming back for.

Belly Dance in Dundee FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Do I need to be fit or flexible to start belly dance? +

Not even slightly. The dance is a set of isolations you pick up gradually — no splits, no stamina test. You begin from wherever your body is at, and the control and give develop as a side-effect of turning up.

Where in Dundee do the belly dance classes run? +

We run a warm, women-friendly room in the centre by City Square, plus a West End space off Perth Road; the exact one lands in your inbox at booking. Private groups can have us come to them right across Dundee and Angus.

What do I wear — do I have to show my midriff? +

Not once. A fitted top and leggings are ideal, and covering your middle is completely fine. The coin-belts and veils are ours to lend for fun, not a uniform — dress in whatever lets you move happily.

How much is a belly dance class in Dundee? +

Eight pounds a drop-in, no membership, no strings — just turn up to whichever weeks suit. When a fixed weekly Dundee time settles, a cheaper multi-week option joins it.

Is belly dance suitable for my age or body shape? +

Any age, any shape. Nothing about the style is built around a particular figure or height; it bends to fit whoever is in the room, which is why the class is such a mixed, unbothered crowd.

Do I have to perform or be watched? +

Only if the idea appeals. Loads of people come purely for the movement and the buzz it leaves behind, and quietly skipping any spotlight is entirely normal here.

What will I actually learn first? +

Isolations — the foundation of the whole thing. Hip drops, figure-eights, shimmies and a chest slide come first, one by one, before they thread together over an Arabic rhythm into little combinations.

Is it a women-only class? +

The studio sessions are held as a warm, women-friendly space, which is how most beginners like to start. For come-to-you bookings we shape the class around whoever is on the guest list.

Can you bring belly dance to a hen do or party in Dundee? +

Gladly — a belly dance class is a hen and birthday favourite, and we travel to you across Dundee, Angus and north Fife with everything, veils included. Send a date, rough numbers and a postcode for a single group price.
