Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Meet the Track

We loosen up to the very song on the menu and pace out its speed on foot, so the tune is already mapped in your body by the time the tricky counts show up.

10–25 mins

One Piece at a Time

The routine is sliced into short fragments and shown from front, side and back at half speed — a single tidy fragment drilled until it truly sits before the next one arrives.

25–40 mins

Where You Stand

Positions and facings get their own slot, because the reason a group looks razor-sharp on screen is not the arms but the shapes they make and break together across the floor.

40–50 mins

Full Speed, Together

Now the fragments join and lift to proper tempo, everyone locking their accents, freezes and direction switches to the very same instant.

50–60 mins

Roll the Camera

An optional filmed run to close, precisely how idols polish a cover, followed by a full stretch to see the hour out.

About K-Pop Classes in Southampton

K-pop dance is chart-pop sharpened to a point — every move snapping cleanly onto the beat, every formation clicking into position, and a whole line moving in mirror-perfect unison. That precision is the reason it rewards being learned properly instead of guessed at from a screen. In our K-pop classes in Southampton we dismantle real idol routines and reassemble them piece by piece.

Here is where Southampton parts company with most of the country: the scene already exists. GENESIZ Studio teaches dedicated K-pop dance in the city, and the university's K-Pop Society runs weekly practices, covers and contests. That society is for students and its members, so our class is the open front door — identical craft, no membership, any age through it.

You bring no dance background — it is assumed you have none — and Korean never comes into it, since every count lands in ordinary numbers. Nailing the slow version first means the full-pace run feels won rather than panicked. Each booked class costs £8, pay-as-you-go, under-18s train in their own supervised age bands, and we will happily bring the whole session to your group instead.

Why Choose K-Pop in Southampton?

A Scene Already Here

Where most cities have nothing to plug into, Southampton has GENESIZ Studio and a university K-Pop Society keeping the style alive — so our public class joins something living instead of building from scratch.

Formations, Not Just Hands

We drill where you stand and where you spin, so the picture the group makes reads as cleanly as the original video — the part most phone-learned covers quietly skip.

Numbers, Not Korean

Everything is called on a count of numbers, so no Korean and no dance history are needed — only routines chopped into fragments small enough to actually hold onto.

Filmed the Idol Way

An optional camera take rounds off each class, mirroring how the groups themselves rehearse, letting you watch your timing and spacing lock in over the weeks.

Your K-Pop Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Weeks 1–4

Your Opening Fragments

Taken Gently

A handful of sections from a current release, taught comfortably below speed, so a first-timer never gets outrun by the song.

What to Bring

Clothes with room to move sharply and clean, grippy trainers — the feet change direction in a blink once the tempo lifts.

Month 2–3

Edge and Accuracy

To Full Pace

Those sections climb to real speed, complete with the crisp stops and hard accents that give the style its snap.

Owning Your Place

Keeping your spot rock-steady while the formation folds and reopens between verse and chorus.

Month 4–6

End-to-End

One Full Piece

A complete routine run as a single unbroken dance, verse flowing into chorus with no visible seams.

Moving as One

Lining up angle, height and timing with the rest of the floor until the whole group looks like one dancer copied out.

Month 6+

Camera-Confident

Proper Covers

Filmed takes and full covers clean enough that posting them online stops feeling daunting.

Part of the Crowd

By now you are woven into the K-pop community Southampton already had, GENESIZ and the society only a step away.

K-Pop in Southampton FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Does Southampton really have a K-pop scene? +

It does, and more so than most of the UK. GENESIZ Studio runs dedicated K-pop dance in the city, and the university K-Pop Society holds weekly practices, covers and competitions. Our open class sits inside that living scene rather than pretending to start one.

How is your class different from the university K-Pop Society? +

The society is run by and for students, tied to membership. Ours is the public alternative — the same real idol routines rebuilt fragment by fragment — but with no membership, no student card and a welcome for every age.

Do I need dancing experience first? +

None whatsoever. Everything is broken into small fragments and slowed right down before you speed up, so absolute beginners stay with it. Nearly everyone on the floor began from a standing start, just like you.

Is any Korean required? +

No — the counts are numbers, plain and simple. You pick up the movement and the timing; the language of the song never becomes something you have to follow.

Which groups do you cover? +

A changing mix of new and classic idol choreography, boy groups and girl groups both, settled on with the class. A few weeks in, and your suggestions are genuinely welcome.

Where in Southampton do the classes happen? +

At partner studios in and around the centre, with a Portswood option that suits the university crowd. The exact room is confirmed on booking, and Southampton Central is central for anyone travelling in.

What is the price of a K-pop class in Southampton? +

£8 for a drop-in, per session, with nothing to join. Discounted blocks come along once a weekly slot is established, and a come-to-you session for your own group is priced on its own.

Do we get filmed? +

Only with the group's blessing — an optional take at the end of class, the same way idols refine a cover. It is by far the fastest way to see your sync and formations improve.

Is it a real workout? +

Far more than newcomers bargain for. The relentless sharp moves and shifting formations push your heart rate up properly — most people arrive for the music and leave having done a serious cardio session by accident.
