Dance Classes in Newcastle

20 Styles of Dance Class in Newcastle

Beginners Run the Room

In most of our Newcastle sessions the first-timers are the crowd, not the odd one out — every style opens on a level that takes nothing as read. Anyone with training steps up to improver classes led by choreographers who still perform around the city. Sorting a hen do? Same team, single booking.

Built Around a Geordie Week

Evening and weekend classes at partner studios in the city centre by Grey Street and the Monument, down on the Quayside and over in Jesmond — an after-work session is a short walk or a couple of Metro stops. Drop in as it suits or block-book to save. Tying the knot? Our wedding dance lessons use the same rooms.

Eight Pounds on a Block

Every session is £8, drop-in and four-week block alike — and that is the lot: no joining fee, no rolling contract, no lock-in. Come for one style this week, try a completely different one next. Set to begin? Get in touch.

Chart and music-video routines sharpened until they read on camera, led by dancers who genuinely work — from festival stages to national touring shows.

Heels drilling the boards, hands clapping a hard compás and a spine held like a rod — Andalusian fire that wants every scrap of your focus. Nobody drifts through a flamenco class.

Struts, body rolls and commercial choreography with real bite. You need no heels to start — trainers are grand — and for most people the nerve arrives well ahead of the stilettos.

Heels Classes
Hip-Hop dance classes in Newcastle

Hip-Hop

The grooves, rocks and social party dances hip-hop grew from — a class about feel and timing over big tricks. We keep it a thing of its own, well apart from the broad street-dance class.

Hip-Hop Classes
Irish Dancing dance classes in Newcastle

Irish Dancing

Reels and jigs firing out at speed while your arms stay clamped to your sides — no Irish blood required, just a proper Geordie howay and the nerve to launch in. Murder on the calves, funnier than it looks.

Irish Dancing Classes
Jazz dance classes in Newcastle

Jazz

Sharp kicks, spotted turns and long stage lines — the vocabulary most working dancers are built on, and the engine under the big touring shows that pull in at the Theatre Royal on Grey Street.

Jazz Classes
K-Pop dance classes in Newcastle

No partner required, ever — a full line landing each grapevine and heel-dig on the very same count. Country at the root, with a soundtrack as new as you fancy.

Easy Cuban timing and gentle spins, partners swapping round the whole class so nobody is stranded at the side. About as warm a welcome into Newcastle's Latin scene as you will find.

Salsa Classes
Street Dance dance classes in Newcastle

Street Dance

One umbrella class pulling locking, popping, breaking and house together, run by street dancers who gig for a living — proper Geordie, that: makes its own scene and answers to nobody.

Street Dance Classes
Tango dance classes in Newcastle

Tango

Close hold, the loaded stillness between steps and a walk that means something — Argentine tango is all slow-burn drama, broken down gently enough for a first-timer to find the thread.

Tango Classes
Tap dance classes in Newcastle

Tap

Shuffles, flaps and time steps layered up till your own feet carry the whole rhythm — percussion you wear on your shoes. Borrow a pair on the night, so nothing gets bought before you are sure.

Where We Teach in Newcastle

Studios in the city centre, on the Quayside and up in Jesmond for adults; children's classes reach right across Tyneside and beyond.

City-Centre & Quayside Studios

Grey Street, the Monument, the Quayside & Jesmond

Adult classes run at partner studios around Grey Street and the Monument, down on the Quayside beneath the bridges, and over in Ouseburn and Jesmond — nearly all an easy walk from Central Station or a couple of Metro stops, and plenty carry evening slots for people arriving straight from work. We confirm the actual room once you have booked.

Local Halls for the Kids

Kids & teens, across Tyneside

The children's classes sit nearer to where families live — halls and studios spread out from the centre through Gosforth, Heaton, Byker and Wallsend, over the river to Gateshead and out to the coast at Tynemouth and Whitley Bay. Mark your area on the enquiry form and we can point you at the closest group with room.

Dance Classes in Newcastle FAQ

The things Geordies most often want cleared up before they start.

What does a class actually cost in Newcastle?

Every session is £8, drop-in and four-week block alike apiece. There is nothing to sign and nothing that renews — you are only ever paying for the sessions you turn up to.

Whereabouts in Newcastle are the classes?

You will find partner studios bang in the city centre by Grey Street and the Monument, down on the Quayside under the bridges, and out in Ouseburn and Jesmond — nearly all a few minutes from Central Station, with the Metro bringing groups in from the coast and the suburbs. The local specifics live on each style's page.

I have never danced. Where should I start?

Follow whatever music already gets you going — that pull lasts longer than any technique. Salsa, street dance and ballet draw the biggest beginner crowds in Newcastle, but all twenty styles run a genuine starter level.

Do you run classes for kids as well?

We do — children's classes run in most styles, arranged by age band and taught by DBS-checked staff, with street dance and ballet the first to fill. Note where you are on the form and we can point you at the closest children's group with room.

What if I have not got a partner?

No need — the four partner styles (salsa, bachata, ballroom and tango) keep everyone moving round, swapping dancers as you go, so solo arrivals are the norm here. Bring someone and stick with them by all means, or join the rotation and partner half the class by the end.
