Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Clean Lines First

Commercial rewards clarity above all else, so before any routine goes in we drill clean isolations and sharp angles until each shape reads instantly. A blurred, half-finished movement gets lost across a room or on a screen; a crisp one lands.

10–25 mins

Hit Every Accent

Next you learn to attack the track — landing on the beat, catching the accents, putting real force behind the moments the music hands you. A routine only wakes up when you are answering the song rather than dancing politely over the top of it.

25–40 mins

Build This Week's Routine

Every few weeks brings a new number, set to whatever single is inescapable right now. It arrives in short blocks: you learn one, attach the next, then polish the transitions until nothing shows where one ends and the other begins.

40–50 mins

Spacing and Staging

The last stretch is the group work — everyone facing the same way, evenly spread, moving as one unit instead of a dozen soloists. That synchronised, produced look is the entire point of commercial, and it is exactly what your favourite videos are selling.

50–60 mins

One for the Playback

We close with a single committed run to the front, full performance energy switched on. It is not going online — it is simply the clearest way to feel how much sharper you have got since last week.

About Commercial Classes in Hull

Commercial dance is the choreography bolted to pop — the routine behind a chart video, a festival slot, a stadium tour. You have watched hundreds of these moves without ever learning a single name for them. In class you finally do, and the buzz of nailing a routine you have only ever seen on a screen is honestly the whole appeal.

Hull turns out its own pop history: Mick Ronson, whose guitar built Bowie's Ziggy Stardust years, the Housemartins and the Beautiful South, Everything But The Girl. In 2017 the city spent a year as the first English UK City of Culture and lit its waterfront up to prove it. Choreography made to be performed feels right at home in a place that enjoys a show.

You will not be the only beginner — most of the room is. What commercial actually trains is picking choreography up quickly and selling it with your face as much as your feet, both of which come with practice. We run classes near Paragon in the city centre and down in the Fruit Market, with the exact studio confirmed once you book.

Why Choose Commercial in Hull?

Moves You Already Half-Know

There is an instant thrill to commercial: you turn up recognising half the moves from videos and awards shows. Turning that flicker of recognition into your own body is quick, satisfying and a proper confidence hit.

Pick Up Choreography Faster

Commercial hinges on absorbing steps at speed. We drill exactly that skill every single week, and it is the kind of thing that keeps paying off in any other style you go on to try.

A Cardio Session in Disguise

Full-out routines are a workout you forget you are doing. You will end up warm, out of breath and grinning, getting genuinely fitter without once framing it in your head as exercise.

Taught by Working Dancers

Your teachers spend their own weeks on the jobs this style is built for — videos, shows and tours — so the routines you learn are put together the way the real thing actually is.

Your Commercial Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Week 1–4

Learning the Language

Getting Started

You meet the building blocks — isolations, grooves and clean angles — and begin training your eye to catch choreography quickly.

What to Wear

Comfortable clothes you can sweat in and clean trainers with grip. Bring water; commercial moves at a fair pace.

Month 2–3

Adding the Performance

Face and Attitude

The steps stop being enough and you learn to sell them — the eye contact, the sharpness, the confidence a camera would pick out.

First Full Routine

You dance a whole number front to back and feel a routine you had only seen on a screen become properly yours.

Month 4–6

Full Routines

Formations

Group work, spacing and facings turn the class into one synchronised unit rather than a room of soloists.

Cleaner and Quicker

You pick up fresh choreography in a fraction of the time it took you back at the start.

Month 6+

Camera-Ready

Performance Standard

You can learn, clean and perform a routine to a genuine standard, with the stamina to run it full-out.

Where Next

Showcases, our own competitions, or simply the best cardio-and-confidence hour in your week.

Commercial in Hull FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

How is commercial different from street or hip-hop? +

Commercial is polished, camera-style pop choreography — the routines behind music videos and pop tours — with the synchronised, produced finish that goes with them. Street and hip-hop are looser and more freestyle. Commercial borrows from both, then drills them into sharp unison performance.

Can I start with no experience at all? +

Yes — most of our Hull commercial dancers began as complete beginners. The main skill, picking choreography up, is trained every week, and it arrives faster than you would expect.

Where in Hull are the commercial classes held? +

At partner studios in the city centre near Paragon Interchange and down in the Fruit Market on Humber Street. The exact room is confirmed once you book.

How much does a commercial class in Hull cost? +

£8 for a drop-in, with no contract or membership. Discounted block bookings are available once the regular timetable is set for your studio.

What music will we be dancing to? +

Whatever is dominating the charts, plus the pop and R&B tracks these routines are built on. The song usually changes with each new routine.

Do you film us in class? +

Sometimes we record a single run at the end so you can watch your own progress back. It is never posted anywhere — it is purely a mirror on how far you have come.

What should I wear and bring? +

Comfortable clothes you can really move in, clean trainers with grip, and a water bottle. Commercial is high energy, so dress to sweat.

Is there anywhere to perform once I'm ready? +

If you want it. We run showcases and competitions, and Hull — a city that spent 2017 as UK City of Culture — is no stranger to putting on a show.

Can we book a commercial class for a group or hen do in Hull? +

Absolutely. Private group and hen sessions are popular, come to your venue or a central studio, and can be themed to a favourite artist. Ask us for the details.
