Dance Classes in Hull
20 Styles of Dance Class in Hull
Beginners Set the Tone Here
Walk into most of our Hull sessions and the first-timers are the crowd, not the exception — every style opens on a level that takes nothing for granted. Dancers with training move up to improver classes led by choreographers who still perform around the city. Sorting a hen do? Same team, one booking.
Slotted Into a Hull Week
Evening and weekend classes run at partner studios in the city centre by Paragon and Queen Victoria Square, down in the Fruit Market and up in the Avenues — a session after work is an easy walk, or a short hop off the A63. Drop in as it suits or block-book to save. Tying the knot? Our wedding dance lessons use the same rooms.
£8 a Class on a Block
Every class is a flat £8, whether you drop in for one or book a four-week block — no membership, no contract, none of the gym-style small print. Try one style this week and something completely different next. Ready to go? Get in touch.
Pick Your Style
Every style below runs in Hull for genuine beginners and is led by a working pro — twenty ways in, and the tune you already love is the one to pick.
Bachata
A softer, slinkier cousin of salsa out of the Dominican Republic — close partner work, an easy sway through the hips and bags of feeling. It is the gentlest way into the Latin socials dotted around Hull.
Bachata Classes
Ballet
Five positions, barre and slow centre work built on centuries of technique. If you have never taken a ballet class and you are years past school age, you are exactly who these adult beginner sessions are for.
Ballet Classes
Ballroom
The waltz, the foxtrot, the quickstep, all carried in a proper frame. Learn it once and it pays you back on every wedding, works do and anniversary dance floor for the rest of your life.
Ballroom Classes
Belly Dance
The rolling shimmies and fine isolations of raqs sharqi, open to any age or body type. Under the sparkle and the coin belts, it is quietly one of the strongest core workouts we run.
Belly Dance Classes
Bollywood
Big-screen hooks, expressive storytelling hands and a beaming, all-together finish — pure colour and joy, carried in from Hull's mixed, buzzing inner-city streets around Spring Bank and Princes Avenue.
Bollywood Classes
Burlesque
It is all attitude — the tease, the glove, the slow look over one shoulder — and, to be absolutely clear, everything stays on. You leave with the swagger, not with fewer clothes.
Burlesque Classes
Commercial
Chart and music-video routines sharpened until they read on camera, taught by dancers who genuinely work the industry — from festival stages to the boards at Hull New Theatre.
Commercial Classes
Contemporary
Breath, momentum and the floor treated as a partner. Contemporary is where you learn to say the things that never fit neatly into words — through release, through floorwork, through improvising.
Contemporary Classes
Flamenco
Heels drilling the boards, hands clapping a hard compás and a spine held like a rod — Spanish fire that asks for every scrap of your attention. There is no coasting through a flamenco class.
Flamenco Classes
Heels
Struts, body rolls and commercial choreography with proper bite. You do not need heels to begin — trainers are completely fine — and most people find the confidence shows up long before the stilettos do.
Heels Classes
Hip-Hop
The grooves, rocks and party dances hip-hop was built on — a class about feel and timing rather than big tricks. We keep it as its own thing, apart from the wider street-dance umbrella.
Hip-Hop Classes
Irish Dancing
Reels and jigs rattling out at pace while your arms stay bolted to your sides — no Irish blood required, only the nerve to throw yourself in. Very Hull, that: just crack on and do your own thing. Brutal on the calves, funnier than it looks.
Irish Dancing Classes
Jazz
Sharp kicks, spotted turns and long stage lines — the foundation nearly every working dancer is built on, and the vocabulary behind the big touring shows that pull in at Hull New Theatre.
Jazz Classes
K-Pop
Point choreography and razor-sharp formation changes lifted move for move from the videos, drilled a bit at a time and recorded in full once it is tight. With the University of Hull just up Cottingham Road, these run young and busy.
K-Pop Classes
Line Dancing
No partner, no problem — just a room full of people hitting the same grapevine and heel-dig at the exact same moment. Country at heart, with a playlist as current as you like.
Line Dancing Classes
Pole Dance
Climbs, spins and the grin that comes with your first proper invert. It runs at a specialist pole studio, and the strength builds as you go — nobody expects you to arrive already able to do it.
Pole Dance Classes
Salsa
Relaxed Cuban rhythm and forgiving turns, the whole class rotating partners so you are never left sitting out. It is the friendliest possible door into the salsa socials scattered across Hull.
Salsa Classes
Street Dance
One broad class pulling together locking, popping, breaking and house, taught by street dancers who actually gig — fitting for Hull, a place that has always gone its own way and made its own noise.
Street Dance Classes
Tango
The embrace, the held breath before a step, the deliberate weight behind every walk. Tango is pure Buenos Aires drama, taken apart patiently enough that a total beginner can follow the thread.
Tango Classes
Tap
Shuffles, flaps, time steps — stack them up until your feet are running the whole rhythm section. Tap is percussion you wear, and there are shoes to borrow so you can be sure before you spend a penny.
Tap ClassesClass Pricing
Plain, contract-free pricing that does not shift whichever of the twenty styles you land on.

Dance Classes in Hull FAQ
What people in Hull tend to ask before a first class.
Whereabouts in Hull do the classes run?
Partner studios sit right in the city centre around Queen Victoria Square and Paragon, down in the Fruit Market on Humber Street, and up in the Avenues near Princes Avenue — most a few minutes' walk from Paragon Interchange, or a central car park off the A63 if you drive. Each style's own page pins down the detail.
What does a dance class in Hull cost?
Every class is a flat £8, whether you drop in for one or book a four-week block. Nothing rolls on afterwards — no joining fee, no contract, you just pay for the weeks you show up.
Are these really adult classes, or mostly for kids?
Genuinely for adults — most of our Hull dancers started as complete beginners well into adulthood, plenty of them decades out of school. Every style has a proper starter level where the teacher builds it up from nothing rather than assuming you can already do the steps.
Do I need to bring a partner?
Not at all — salsa, bachata, ballroom and tango rotate the whole room round, so arriving on your own is completely normal. Bring someone and stay together if you would rather, or swap through and end up dancing with half of Hull.
Do you teach children too?
Yes — most styles run children's classes as well, split by age and led by DBS-checked teachers, with street dance and ballet filling first. Flag your area on the enquiry form and we will tell you where the nearest kids' class runs.
