Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Flat-Foot Warm-Up

No heels for the first ten minutes. We loosen the ankles, wake the calves and stretch the spine long — all flat-footed — because a twisted ankle in your first week costs you weeks of progress. It is the one part of class nobody ever skips.

10–25 mins

The Walk Comes First

Before any choreography, you own the walk. We drill it on its own: the drive coming from your hips, weight travelling the length of each foot, one clean line running from your feet all the way up through the top of your head. Nail the walk and everything else has something solid to sit on.

25–40 mins

Learn the Number

Then a routine with a nightclub, top-of-the-charts energy, taught in small pieces so it never runs away from you. Wear what suits you that day — a low block heel or flat trainers, we genuinely do not mind — and the choreography adapts to your footing.

40–50 mins

Perform It

With the steps secure, the attitude gets dialled all the way up. Lines snap out to the front, any drop stays controlled, and your gaze fixes on a pretend audience at the back. Direct one move straight at an individual and it reads as intent rather than rehearsal.

50–60 mins

Everything, Then Cool Down

The hour finishes with one run given absolutely everything, followed by a gentle stretch-out for the ankles and calves that did all the work carrying you through it.

About Heels Classes in Hull

Heels takes bold, front-facing choreography and dances it in a raised shoe — think sharp lines, a strong walk and a good deal of swagger. The surprise for most beginners is how little the heel itself matters at first. What you are really building is balance and the confidence to perform, and both of those start down in flat trainers.

Hull throws a cheap, cheerful and genuinely up-for-it night out, from the old pubs around Trinity Square to the cocktail bars on the Fruit Market marina and the buzzy Avenues up north. Heels was born in exactly that mix of clubs, stages and late nights — a scene that never asked who you were before letting you in — and our rooms run young, mixed and easy to walk into cold.

Nobody gets pushed onto a stiletto early. We keep things flat for the first while, so your ankles and your walk can catch up, and no routine ever climbs past a height you can properly handle. Trainers are completely fine to start. We run classes in the city centre near Paragon and down in the Fruit Market, with the studio confirmed once you book.

Why Choose Heels in Hull?

The Walk Can Be Taught

That confident runway walk is not something people are simply born with; it is balance, posture and timing learned in the right order. We assemble it piece by piece until it stops feeling like a costume and starts feeling like yours.

Safety Is the Whole Design

This class is built around not hurting yourself: flat starts, heights capped to what you can hold, and no stiletto anywhere near a beginner. How quickly you climb is decided by your ankles and nothing else.

Everyone in the Room

There is no women-only rule here. Every gender learns the same routine in the same room, and the single entry requirement is a willingness to have a proper go.

A Head Start on the Night

Few classes send you out the door feeling this good. Take an early slot and that buzz walks with you straight into the Old Town pubs or a Fruit Market cocktail bar afterwards.

Your Heels Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Week 1–4

Flat and Steady

Getting Started

Everything happens in trainers while you build the walk, the posture and the confidence sitting underneath it all.

What to Wear

Flat trainers, leggings and a top to begin. Hold off buying heels until you know what you actually want.

Month 2–3

Up on the Heel

The Heel Arrives

Once your ankles and walk are ready, a low block heel comes in, and everything you learned flat transfers straight up.

First Routine

You dance a full number with real attitude, whether you are in heels by now or still in trainers.

Month 4–6

Working the Room

Performance

Sharper lines, controlled drops and steady eye contact turn the routine into a genuine performance.

Growing Confidence

The swagger stops being an act you put on and starts feeling like it genuinely belongs to you.

Month 6+

Fully in Charge

Total Control

You command the floor at whatever height you have chosen, steady and certain on the shoe.

Where Next

Higher heels if you fancy them, showcases, or a heels session to launch a big night out.

Heels in Hull FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Do I have to dance in heels from day one? +

No. Everyone starts in flat trainers and stays there for the first few weeks while the walk and the ankles get strong. The heel only comes in once you are genuinely ready for it.

Is it really safe for my ankles? +

Safety is built into how the class runs: flat starts, a proper warm-up every time, and routines capped at a height you can control. You climb at your own pace, never anyone else's.

Is this a women-only class? +

Not at all. Every gender is welcome and learns the same routine in the same room. Heels has always made space for everyone, and so do we.

Do I need any dance background? +

None needed. Most of our Hull heels dancers start as beginners. If you can walk across a room, you have everything you need to begin.

Whereabouts in Hull are the heels classes? +

At partner studios in the city centre near Paragon and down in the Fruit Market. Your exact studio is confirmed when you book.

How much does a heels class in Hull cost? +

Drop-in sessions are £8, with no membership or contract. Block-booking discounts kick in once your studio's regular schedule is set.

What should I bring besides shoes? +

Leggings or something you can move in, a top, water, and knee pads if you have them for any floor moments. Flat trainers are all the footwear you need to start.

When I'm ready, what heels should I buy? +

A low-to-mid block heel first — stable and kind to beginners — before anything higher or thinner. Your teacher will steer you once your ankles are ready.

Can we book a heels session for a Hull hen do? +

Yes. A private heels class is a brilliant hen-party option — high energy, full of swagger, and it comes to your venue or a central studio. Get in touch for the details.
