Make the Body Read
We open by making your body read on camera — isolations first, then hard edges and a lifted chest. Mush and half-shapes vanish the second a lens points at you, so we sharpen the frame before any counting starts.
Answer the Track
Then you learn to talk back to the music — dropping onto a beat, snapping to a hit, hurling enough weight at each accent that it carries to the far wall. That back-and-forth is what turns going through the motions into a performance.
Build the Number
You get the month's routine a section at a time, then rebuild it whole, set to whatever single is everywhere that week. Learn a block, join it to the last, run it until the joins disappear.
Place the Picture
Facings, spacing, formation — the spot you hold, the way you pivot, how a group morphs from one shape to the next as a single picture. This is the produced gloss that sets commercial apart from the raw street styles feeding it.
Roll Camera
A final all-out take straight into the lens, performance face and all, filmed once so you've got real evidence to measure against seven days later.
About Commercial Classes in Cardiff
Commercial is the dancing you already know without a name for it — the moves behind the chart single, the arena tour, the video racking up millions. It's choreography built for a screen first, which is the whole reason performing to a lens counts every bit as much as the footwork holding it up.
Not many cities are as camera-soaked as Cardiff. Doctor Who has been made here since 2005, Torchwood was set right down in Cardiff Bay, and the drama studios out at the Bay keep cameras rolling for a living. Add the tens of thousands of students packed into Cathays and you get rooms full of people quite happy to be looked at.
We meet at partner studios in the city centre and down in Cardiff Bay, with the exact room confirmed when you book. Newcomers are the norm, not the exception — snatching choreography quickly is a knack we grow in you, never a thing we assume on arrival. The centre is flat and walkable and both stations sit close, so leave the match-day parking battle well alone.

Why Choose Commercial in Cardiff?
Not Studio Filler
Every number is built the way a working choreographer maps a tour or a shoot, taught by dancers who spend their own weeks doing exactly those jobs. What you learn is the real thing, scaled down.
Quick Uptake, Trained In
The one skill commercial can't do without is catching moves fast, so it gets worked deliberately in every session until your body simply does it without you thinking.
One Deliberate Picture
A clean front line, everyone facing the same way, spacing you could measure with a ruler — that's what makes a random group photograph as a single intended image, and it's what lifts this above its street roots.
A City Where Cameras Roll
You learn this in a genuine TV city — the home of Doctor Who, with drama studios down the Bay — so both the appetite for a lens and the stages to use it are all around you.
Your Commercial Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Cleaning Up the Shapes
Getting Started
Bounce, isolations and the crisp, deliberate texture the genre runs on. Confidence and clean lines come first here; the worry about speed can keep for a later week.
Kit
Stretchy gear you can move hard in and flat, smooth-soled trainers — a tee and joggers are plenty. The heel work gets a room entirely of its own.
Starting to Sell It
Foundations
Hits, angles and drops joined into whole phrases, and instead of counting out loud you let the track itself call the shots on where the movement heads.
Your Flavour
Because the style pulls from jazz, street and hip-hop at once, you begin noticing whether you'd sooner hit hard or ride smooth.
Whole Pieces
Longer Numbers
They get longer and faster, the transitions turn meaner, and you finish with complete routines fit for your socials or a live crowd.
The Finish
Now it's less about recall and more about delivery — dynamics, contrast, and enough front to carry all the way to the cheap seats.
Ready for the Lens
Perform
Filmed projects and showcase slots whenever the urge strikes, or simply the weekly hit of going full-out for the sheer fun of it.
What's Next
Improver numbers, sessions run at audition tempo, or a step sideways into the heels class next door.
Commercial in Cardiff FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Where in Cardiff are the commercial classes held? +
Partner studios in the city centre and down in Cardiff Bay, confirmed once you book. Each is a short walk from Cardiff Central or Queen Street, and since the centre is small and flat, most people just walk in.
How much does a commercial class in Cardiff cost? +
£8 on a drop-in, paid on the night, with no membership and nothing to sign. Once your nearest studio pins down a weekly slot, a block booking brings that figure down.
How is commercial different from street or hip-hop? +
Street and hip-hop come out of culture, foundations and freestyle. Commercial takes that and polishes it for the camera — everyone in unison, clean formations, a routine engineered to be watched. Plenty of Cardiff dancers happily do both in one week.
Can I come with no experience at all? +
Yes, and most of the room does exactly that. Classes aim squarely at beginners, and learning to pick things up fast is coached from the first minute, so nobody is stranded at the back. Look around any night — most started where you are.
What tracks will we dance to? +
Broadly whatever's ruling the charts that month — pop, a little R&B or Afrobeats, the single stuck in everyone's head. We swap it out constantly, so it never feels welded to a playlist from two summers back.
What should I wear and bring? +
Clothes you can move freely in and clean-soled trainers — joggers or leggings with a tee. Nothing stiff, no special shoes to buy, and heels are handled in a class of their own.
Do you film the class? +
Usually only that final run, kept as a clip for tracking your own progress. You're asked every time, it's never required, and it stays offline unless the whole room is happy with it.
Is there anywhere to perform in Cardiff? +
Loads. Cardiff is a real TV city — the home of Doctor Who, with drama studios out at the Bay and a busy live scene — so shoots, showcases and projects run all year round. When you're ready, your teacher will steer you to one.
Can we book a private or hen group in Cardiff? +
Absolutely — a filmed, music-video-style routine is one of our most-requested group and hen sessions. Add your date and numbers to the form and we'll fix a central studio or come out to you across Cardiff and South Wales.
