Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Loosen Up, Find the Bounce

We start moving straight away — a warm-up that frees the joints and drops you into time with the track. That low bounce and rock every street style shares is running from the very first minute.

10–25 mins

A Style a Week

Each week zooms in on a single style — the crisp stop of locking one week, popping's punch the next, then breaking's top rock or the quick feet of house — so a month gives you a taste of the lot.

25–40 mins

Build the Routine

The week's material gets assembled into a compact piece over funk, house or hip-hop breaks, drilled until your body throws it out automatically and your head can stop counting.

40–50 mins

No Set Plan

Playful improvisation drills get you moving with nothing rehearsed — and that leap, from following moves to inventing them, is really what dancing is.

50–60 mins

The Circle, Then Cool Down

An easy, optional cypher gives you the chance to throw down a move for a room that'll clap for anything you try, and a proper stretch signs the session off.

About Street Dance Classes in Bradford

Street dance isn't one dance — it's the family name for everything that came up out of clubs, parties and street corners rather than a mirrored studio: popping, locking, breaking, house and their many cousins. In Bradford we work across the lot, taught by people who still dance the scene themselves, so before you commit to a favourite you've actually tried each one. And the room is genuinely mixed-age, with sessions for children, teenagers and grown-ups. Our street dance classes in Bradford take complete beginners as the norm.

Bradford is a natural home for it. This is the youngest major city in Britain and one of the most diverse, a place that spent 2025 as UK City of Culture and became the world's first UNESCO City of Film back in 2009 — a city, in other words, that is forever putting on a show and pointing a camera at it. That young, performance-hungry energy suits funk, house and hip-hop right down to the ground.

There's no prior experience to have — it all sets off from a simple bounce that clicks within a few minutes. Our studios sit around the city centre, across in Little Germany and out towards Manningham, all a short walk from the two central stations, and the mobile crew covers the wider district as well. Just arrive in trainers and something you can move freely in.

Why Choose Street Dance in Bradford?

A City That Films Itself

Bradford was the world's first UNESCO City of Film and spent 2025 as UK City of Culture — there's practically always a stage, a screen or a camera nearby. You're learning street dance somewhere that genuinely loves a performance.

Sample the Whole Family

Over a term you'll spend real time on popping, on locking, on house and on breaking in turn — enough of each to understand the differences and pick your direction with your eyes open.

From Six to Sixty

We group classes by age from six years old up, every one led by a DBS-checked coach. The kids' sessions are our most-booked class of all, and anxious adults tend to settle in every bit as quickly.

Young and Growing

With the lowest median age of any big UK city and a City-of-Culture appetite for performance, Bradford's scene is young, open and easy to walk into — with plenty of chances to perform when you want them.

Your Street Dance Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Week 1–4

Finding the Bounce

Getting Started

We open on the bounce and rock, then dip into top rock and a bit of locking. Early doors it's all about feeling the rhythm and shaking off the nerves — the clean, tidy shapes can come later.

What to Wear

Comfy bottoms, a t-shirt and flat, cushioned trainers. Get comfort sorted first; after that, this is a scene that celebrates individual style, so honestly, dress however feels most like you.

Month 2–3

Sampling the Styles

Foundations

You go deeper into each strand — locking, popping, house, breaking — learning what it asks of your body, and, handily, which of them suit you most naturally.

First Freestyle

A little structured improvisation builds the nerve to dance with no safety net of choreography — the one skill the rest of street dance is stacked on top of.

Month 4–6

A Voice of Your Own

Finding a Voice

The freestyles lengthen, the routines toughen up, and the earliest signs of movement that's distinctly yours begin to surface.

Belonging

The circle stops feeling like a test and starts feeling like home; you're properly part of the group now, in a scene you've joined rather than a class you attend.

Month 6+

Out in the Scene

Battle-Ready

At ease across every strand, calm when a battle breaks out, and building combinations of your own — the invention this whole culture prizes most.

What's Next

The Bradford jam and battle nights, our in-house competitions if you fancy testing yourself, or going all in on whichever strand ended up claiming you.

Street Dance in Bradford FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Where in Bradford are the street dance classes held? +

At partner studios around the city centre, over in Little Germany and out towards Manningham, with kids' groups spread more widely across the district. Each is an easy walk from Forster Square or the Interchange, and the exact address reaches you as soon as you sign up.

How much do street dance classes in Bradford cost? +

Eight pounds a drop-in, no sign-up and no tie-in — you turn up when you can. Discounted blocks come along later, as soon as your closest studio settles its regular weekly slot.

Do I need any experience to start? +

Honestly none. It all launches from the bounce, a groove that clicks in a minute or two, and grows from there. Look around a beginners' session and most of the room has barely danced before either.

What ages do you teach? +

There are adult sessions for 17s up to 75s, a dedicated teen class for 15- and 16-year-olds, and two younger groups covering 9–14 and 6–8 — every one run by a DBS-checked coach. Tell us your age on the form and we'll match you to the right class.

What should I wear? +

Baggy, movable clothes and flat trainers with a bit of cushion. After that, individuality is the whole point of the culture, so honestly, come dressed however feels truest to you.

How is street dance different from your hip-hop classes? +

Treat street as the broad heading that rotates through locking, popping, house, breaking and the rest over a term. Our hip-hop class zeroes in on hip-hop alone — its grooves, its party dances, its set choreography. A fair few dancers do both and say the two sharpen each other.

Will I get to learn breaking? +

Definitely. The breaking weeks bring in top rock, footwork, freezes and go-downs, sitting beside the house, popping and locking. Should it really take hold of you, Bradford's jam nights are the natural next move, and we'll set you on the way.

What makes Bradford good for street dance? +

It's young and it loves to perform. This is the UK's youngest major city and one of its most diverse, and as the world's first City of Film and 2025's City of Culture, it's a place forever on a stage. That energy is a perfect match for funk, house and hip-hop.

Do you bring street dance to schools and venues around Bradford? +

Absolutely — the mobile crew delivers school assemblies, birthday parties and youth-club sessions the length of the district, reaching Shipley, Keighley and Halifax. Just add your venue on the enquiry form and leave the logistics to us.
