Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Warm Up, Then Walk It
A gentle loosen-up first, and then we walk through the night's opening dance in silence, no track running, letting its shape settle in your legs before any music arrives to rush you.
Each Step Called Out
Coaster steps, grapevines, kick-ball-changes, quarter turns — every one gets named the moment it comes around, which means nothing ever lands on you unannounced.
Building the Whole Dance
The individual moves get assembled into a full dance — turns that spin the whole line to a fresh wall included — so everyone keeps wheeling around the floor together as the routine repeats.
Drop the Track In
Only now does the music go on, laid beneath the completed dance — sometimes country, just as often a Motown or soul cut or whatever is riding high in the charts — and all at once the steps snap onto the rhythm.
One More, Then Wind Down
We squeeze in a second dance in a contrasting style to widen your repertoire, then ease right down with a relaxed stretch so nobody walks back out into the Reading night feeling seized up.
About Line Dancing Classes in Reading
Not many dances hand a total newcomer a genuine night of dancing, but this is one of them. You need no partner and no prep at all: a caller sings out the name of every move a beat before you need it, and you simply copy the line in front until it sinks in. And forget the cowboy cliché — a Reading class swings from country into Motown, soul, chart-pop and a big slice of rock-and-roll.
The thing that really marks these classes out is our mileage. Some dancers happily make for a studio near the town centre, but Reading sits at the middle of a broad Berkshire spread, so we're equally glad to load the kit up and take the whole session to a hall on your doorstep — out to Wokingham, Woodley, Tilehurst or Twyford. If you are coming into the centre instead, your room is confirmed as soon as you book, and drivers can use the Mereoak park-and-ride from the south.
Leave the Stetson and the boots at home unless you truly love them — the only real requirement underfoot is a flat, smooth sole that lets you spin without catching. Bring £8 for the night and the good grace to shrug off a wrong turn or two. Of everything on our timetable this draws the broadest span of ages — teenagers next to grandparents in one line — and under-eighteens dance in their own sessions with vetted staff.

Why Choose Line Dancing in Reading?
Come on Your Own
You can rock up entirely on your own and simply follow the voice at the front — because every move is announced the second it arrives, there is nothing to learn beforehand and no partner whose feet you have to mind.
The Night Comes to You
On top of the town-centre sessions, the entire class can decamp to a hall on your side of the county — Wokingham, Woodley, Tilehurst or Twyford — so you never have to fight your way into central Reading after a long day.
Far More Than Country
Think of country as the opening page and nothing more. Just as many nights land on Motown, a soul stomper, something high in this week's charts or a rock-and-roll number — a far wider spread of music than the boots-and-hat picture ever promised.
Every Age, One Line
Since there is no pairing off, the room ends up with the most mixed ages of anything we run — a teenager can be dancing two along from a grandparent, everyone pointed the same way and locked into the same line.
Your Line Dancing Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Your First Night
Just Copy Along
Vines, simple walks and easy turns learned just by watching the person beside you and doing the same — there's genuinely nothing to swot up or rehearse beforehand.
On Your Feet
Everyday clothes and, on your feet, something flat that slides rather than grips. Bring cowboy boots only if you actually want to — plenty of people never do.
Full Routines
End to End
Those separate moves join up into entire dances, direction changes and all, keeping the whole line travelling steadily around the floor.
A Wider Playlist
Country is a given, but expect soul, Motown and current pop numbers to show up every bit as much as your confidence grows.
From Memory
No More Prompts
The routines have taken up residence in your head now, so with each week that passes the caller's voice matters less and less to you.
Quick to Learn
A completely fresh dance can be yours within a single session, because the familiar step-blocks now assemble themselves without you thinking.
Part of the Room
A Big Repertoire
A deep back-catalogue of dances you can launch into the instant a track plays, whatever its speed or mood.
Run Your Own
Maybe even putting on your own mobile session for a group you gather, anywhere from Wokingham across to Twyford or beyond.
Line Dancing in Reading FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Will you really come out to Wokingham, Woodley or Twyford? +
We will, gladly — the travelling class is a core part of what we do, and it spares you the crawl into central Reading. Give us a hall with a group waiting in it, anywhere from Wokingham and Woodley across to Tilehurst or Twyford, and the entire night arrives at your door.
Do I need a partner? +
Not at all, and honestly that's half the charm. Everyone faces the same direction in lines, so you can turn up solo any week and slot straight in without hunting for someone to dance with.
Is it just country music? +
Nowhere near. Country features, certainly, but you'll get as much Motown, soul, chart-pop and rock-and-roll — the whole hats-and-saloon image was dropped years back and never really fit the dance to begin with.
Can a complete beginner get through the first night? +
Comfortably. Every dance is taught at a walk and named out loud as you go, so there's nothing to prepare — the vast majority of newcomers finish a whole routine on night one.
What should I put on my feet? +
A flat shoe with a smooth, slidey sole is the ideal — it lets you spin cleanly. Steer clear of grippy trainers, which snag on a turn. Cowboy boots are welcome but purely a bit of fun, not a requirement.
How much is a line dancing class in Reading? +
£8 a session, no membership, no strings. Come as and when you like; once a local class beds into a fixed weekly night, we open up cheaper blocks for those who attend regularly.
Where are the studio classes in Reading? +
In partner studios around the town centre, with the room confirmed once you've booked. Reading station is the nearest by rail; drivers get central car parks plus the Mereoak park-and-ride coming from the south.
Is there an age I'm too old to start at? +
There isn't one. This pulls the widest age spread of anything we teach — teenagers and folk in their eighties sharing a floor. Under-eighteens have separate sessions run by vetted staff.
Could you put on a session for a party or group? +
Definitely — a line dancing session is a brilliant shout for clubs, birthdays and community do's right across Berkshire. Note the venue and a rough guest count on the form and we'll take care of the rest.
