Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Finding the Four-Count
We roll the hips and knees loose, then walk through bachata's three steps and the little tap on four until the count sits in your body without you thinking about it.
Your Own Basic
Working solo, you drill the side-to-side travel and the soft hip lift on the fourth beat, so the movement is yours long before a partner is anywhere near.
Into a Frame
You take a light hold and rotate through the room, offering and reading a gentle lead, so the step survives whoever you happen to be dancing with.
Turns and Quiet Moments
One clean turn, a change of direction, and how to lean into the guitar's slower bars so the dance stretches and breathes rather than plods.
A Whole Song
Everything folds into one relaxed social dance to the evening's track, then a gentle stretch before you head back out towards Cathedral Square.
About Bachata Classes in Peterborough
Bachata comes from the Dominican Republic, a slow and romantic dance that stays low and close to the floor while salsa dashes about above it. Its engine is a simple sideways step that sinks on the fourth beat, which is why the small thrill of properly dancing usually turns up inside your first evening.
Our beginners' hour runs from a city-centre studio a few minutes from Cathedral Square and Bridge Street, with the precise studio shared once you have a place. If you want somewhere to keep dancing, Leandro's Thursday salsa and bachata nights run at Manor Farm Community Centre out in Eye — a genuine local floor, though a short drive east of the centre rather than in town.
Getting in is easy without a car: Peterborough station and the Queensgate bus interchange both sit a short walk from the centre, and the A1(M) brings drivers in from Werrington, Orton and the villages. Come by yourself or with someone — partners rotate all hour, so nobody is left holding up a wall.

Why Choose Bachata in Peterborough?
The Kindest Latin Start
Slow, grounded and close, bachata is the one that convinces people who are certain they were born with no rhythm.
No Partner to Find
Everyone swaps around the room across the hour, so you cover leading and following whether you arrive alone or as a pair.
Somewhere to Dance After
Once the basics land, Leandro's Thursday nights at Manor Farm in Eye give your new steps a real social floor to visit.
We Travel the Fens
Hen groups and private parties across Peterborough and out to Whittlesey, Yaxley and Market Deeping get the whole class brought to their door.
Your Bachata Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Step and Dip
Getting Going
The travelling basic, the fourth-beat dip and enough timing to move to a real bachata track without counting aloud.
What to Bring
Smooth-soled shoes and clothes you can warm up in — that is the entire kit list.
Sharing the Step
Working in Pairs
Taking a hold, offering a lead and following one, rotating partners so the basic holds up with anybody in the room.
First Turn
A single, unhurried turn added in — the point most people feel the dance start to flow.
Letting the Music Steer
Musicality
Reading the guitar and percussion so you speed up, slow down and pause with the song instead of drilling on autopilot.
More Combinations
Short sequences chained together, plus the confidence to improvise a little between them.
Out Dancing Socially
On a Real Floor
Comfortable enough to head to Leandro's Thursday nights in Eye and dance a full song with a stranger.
Your Own Feel
Adding your own softness and styling so the dance reads as yours, not a memorised pattern.
Bachata in Peterborough FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
How much does a bachata class in Peterborough cost? +
It is a flat £8 each time, paid on the night — no sign-up and no block you are locked into. You cover the sessions you attend, and discounted multi-week blocks will open once the Peterborough timetable is set.
Do I need to bring a partner? +
No — most people don't. The class rotates everyone through leading and following, so you always have someone to practise with. Bring a partner if you have one; turn up alone if you don't. Both are completely usual here.
Where in Peterborough is the beginners' class held? +
In a city-centre studio a few minutes from Cathedral Square and Bridge Street, easily reached from the station and the Queensgate bus interchange. The exact room is shared once your place is booked.
Is your class the same as the Thursday salsa and bachata at Manor Farm? +
No — those Thursday nights are Leandro's own sessions at Manor Farm Community Centre out in Eye, and they are a great place to dance socially. Our beginners' hour is separate and city-centre; we happily point you to Eye once you are ready for a real floor.
I have honestly never danced — will I cope? +
Easily. Bachata's basic is a calm side step, so the enjoyable part shows up early rather than after months of practice. Nearly everyone in the beginners' hour is starting from nothing, so you are in exactly the right crowd.
What should I put on my feet? +
Smooth soles that pivot cleanly — a leather sole or a low, stable heel works far better than grippy trainers, which snag on the turns. Above the ankle, just wear something comfortable you can move in.
Is bachata easier to pick up than salsa? +
For most beginners, yes. Bachata keeps things slow and low to the ground where salsa races and turns, so the timing is more forgiving. Many people eventually dance both, and bachata is usually the gentler way in.
What is sensual bachata — will we be doing that? +
Sensual bachata brings in body rolls and a closer hold layered over the classic Dominican step. The beginners' hour builds the grounded basics first; that layer only comes later, and only if you choose it — never as a requirement.
Can you bring a bachata class to a hen do or party? +
Yes — a come-to-you bachata session is a popular hen booking. We carry the whole class to your venue anywhere across Peterborough and out into the Fens, from Yaxley to Market Deeping. Pop your date and numbers on the enquiry form.
