Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Find the Bounce

We loosen off on the core groove — the head-nod, the rock, the weight-shift that every hip-hop step hangs from. It is the bit that gets a cold room warm and grinning.

10–25 mins

Party Dance of the Week

A named social dance and where it came from — the moves people actually threw down at jams and house parties, learned properly rather than half-copied off a screen.

25–40 mins

Build the Routine

We stack the week's vocabulary into a short piece of choreography set to a hip-hop or chart cut, adding texture and hits once the shape is in your body.

40–50 mins

Musicality & Freestyle

Guided games that teach you to ride the beat instead of counting it — small, low-pressure improv that builds the nerve to move without a plan.

50–60 mins

Run It Back & Stretch

One last full-tempo run of the routine so it sticks, then a proper cool-down to send the ankles and calves home in one piece.

About Hip-Hop Classes in Manchester

Hip-hop is a dance in its own right, not a sampler of everything shelved under street. Our hip-hop dance classes in Manchester stay inside that lane — the grooves, the social party dances and the tight choreography set to hip-hop and chart cuts — and give the hour real depth instead of a whistle-stop tour of the whole family.

This is the city that handed Britain its dancefloor strut — the guitar bands that wandered out of the rehearsal room and into the Haçienda, the baggy Madchester swagger that still hangs about the place. We coach from partner studios in the Northern Quarter, out in Ancoats and around the city centre, the exact one shared on booking; Piccadilly and Victoria are both minutes away.

Nobody expects you to walk in knowing a thing — most of the room started from a dead stop. We break the bounce right down until it feels like yours, then layer up. The main session runs the full 17-to-75 span, under-17s train in their own supervised bands, and it is £8 to drop in with no contract behind it.

Why Choose Hip-Hop in Manchester?

Inside Real Hip-Hop

We hold the hour in genuine hip-hop — grooves, party dances and choreography — rather than skating over the entire street catalogue in sixty minutes.

Manchester's Own Swagger

The city that gave guitar bands a dancefloor lends its attitude to the room — this is somewhere movement and cheek have always gone together.

Juniors & Teens Welcome

Age-banded classes for younger dancers under DBS-checked coaches — hip-hop is one of the most requested kids' sessions on our timetable.

A Floor Full of Beginners

Turning up green is the norm, not the exception — you will be standing next to plenty of people at exactly your level.

Your Hip-Hop Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Weeks 1–4

Lock Into the Groove

Getting Going

Bounce, rock and your first party dance. The aim is timing and confidence on the beat, not polish — that comes later and looks after itself.

Kit to Bring

Joggers or trackies, a tee you can sweat in, and flat trainers with a bit of cushion. Personal style is welcome; comfort comes first.

Months 2–3

Stack the Vocabulary

More Moves

New party dances and cleaner choreography each week, with hits and texture layered on so your routines start reading like the real thing.

First Freestyle

The improv games get a little braver — short solos, call-and-response, learning to trust your own choices in the moment.

Months 4–6

Find Your Flavour

Your Own Voice

Longer routines and freestyles where you start bending the counts and adding your own signature rather than copying the front row.

Part of the Room

Comfortable in the circle and known by name — hip-hop is a culture you join in Manchester, not just a class you tick off.

Months 6+

Hold Your Own

Going Deeper

Harder choreography, sharper musicality and freestyle you can actually lean on when the track surprises you.

Where Next

Showcases, our own events, or specialising in the strand of hip-hop that has quietly grabbed you the hardest.

Hip-Hop in Manchester FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

I've never danced a single step — can I still start hip-hop in Manchester? +

Absolutely, and you will be in good company. We open every course on the bounce, take it slowly, and add one thing at a time. In the beginner sessions the total newcomers outnumber everyone else, so nobody stands out for starting from scratch.

How is your hip-hop class different from the street dance one? +

Street dance is the umbrella term — locking, popping, breaking and house rotated through a session. Hip-hop is one branch of that tree, and this class lives in it: grooves, social party dances and choreography to hip-hop and chart tracks. A lot of people happily do both.

Whereabouts in Manchester do the hip-hop classes run? +

At partner studios in the Northern Quarter, over in Ancoats and around the city centre, with younger groups spread a little wider. You get the exact venue with your booking, and every one is a short walk or a Metrolink hop from Piccadilly or Victoria.

Do you teach social party dances or set routines? +

Both, side by side, every week. You pick up a party dance and the story behind it, then learn a piece of choreography — the two feed each other, and by the end of a term you can hold a proper eight-count.

What does a hip-hop drop-in cost in Manchester? +

It is £8 a session, paid as you go, with no membership and nothing to sign. Once your nearest studio settles into a fixed weekly slot, discounted blocks of sessions open up alongside the drop-in.

What should I turn up in? +

Something you can move and sweat in, plus flat trainers with a cushioned sole. Hip-hop has always prized how you carry yourself, so past the practicalities, wear what feels like you.

Is there any freestyle, or is it all choreography? +

There is guided freestyle in most sessions — short improv games, never a spotlight you did not ask for. It is where hip-hop really breathes, and most people are itching to join the circle within a few weeks.

What age groups do the classes cover? +

The main floor runs 17 to 75. Under-17s have their own junior and teen bands with DBS-checked coaches. Note your age on the enquiry form and we will steer you to the right session.

Can you bring hip-hop to a school or venue across Greater Manchester? +

Yes — we are a mobile crew too. School workshops, birthdays and youth-group sessions run right across Greater Manchester, out to Salford, Stockport, Oldham and Trafford. Fill in the form and tell us where your venue is.
