Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Warm Up and Bounce
A mobile warm-up frees off the knees, ankles and chest and lands you on the beat. The bounce and the rock that underpin every street style are already at work in these opening minutes.
One Style a Week
Every week points the spotlight at a single strand — the snap of locking, the hit of popping, breaking's top rock, or house footwork — so a month covers the whole family between them.
Build a Routine
That week's moves get built up into a short routine over funk, house or hip-hop breaks, run until it comes out of the body on its own instead of being counted from the head.
Off the Script
Guided improvisation games teach you to move with no set plan — which is the very thing that separates a person going through steps from a person who is genuinely dancing.
Cypher and Cool Down
An open, take-it-or-leave-it cypher lets you try a move in front of a friendly room that will cheer whatever you bring, and then a full stretch draws the hour to a close.
About Street Dance Classes in Leeds
Street dance is the catch-all for everything that grew up on dancefloors and in clubs instead of studios — popping, locking, breaking, house and the rest of it. Our street dance classes in Leeds work through the whole spread, taught by dancers who are active on the local scene, so you get a feel for every strand before picking one to chase. There is room here for kids, teens and adults alike.
Street sits comfortably in Leeds, a city that is out and dancing most weekends — one of the country's biggest nights-out and gig towns. Kaiser Chiefs even wrote 'I Predict a Riot' about a night here, and a huge student population keeps the place young and on its feet. That loud, sweaty, sociable streak is a natural home for funk, house and hip-hop styles.
Nobody needs a background — everyone begins on a bounce you can pick up in minutes. The studios are dotted around the city centre, the Call Lane and Corn Exchange quarter and out towards Chapel Allerton, each a short walk from Leeds station. Come in trainers and whatever you can move about in freely.

Why Choose Street Dance in Leeds?
Already on Its Feet
Leeds is one of Britain's great gig and going-out cities — the very night out that gave Kaiser Chiefs 'I Predict a Riot'. You are learning street dance somewhere the streets are dancing anyway most weekends.
Every Strand, In Turn
Popping, locking, house and breaking each get a spell across a term, so you sample every corner of the street family and know what you are choosing well before you settle on one.
Every Age Covered
Classes are split by age from six upwards, each run by DBS-checked coaches. It is our busiest children's booking, and one where nervy adults find their feet just as quickly as the kids do.
A Massive Young Scene
Four universities and one of the UK's largest student populations keep the Leeds street scene busy, young and easy to walk into, with jams and battles on hand whenever you fancy watching or joining.
Your Street Dance Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Finding the Bounce
Getting Started
Bounce and rock drills first, then an early go at top rock and a spot of locking. Rhythm and nerve are what we chase to begin with — the tidy lines can queue up behind them.
What to Wear
Joggers or trackies, a tee, and flat trainers with some cushioning. Comfort comes first; the culture loves a bit of personal style, so past that, wear whatever feels like you.
Sampling the Styles
Foundations
You dig deeper into locking, popping, house and breaking, sorting out what each one wants from you — and, just as usefully, which of them your body takes to without a fight.
First Freestyle
Structured improvisation builds the nerve to dance without a script — the doorway skill the entire style quietly rests its weight on.
A Voice of Your Own
Finding a Voice
Freestyles run longer, routines get harder, and the earliest hints of a movement voice that is recognisably yours and no one else's start to surface.
Belonging
The cypher feels like home by now and you are one of the crew for real — street dance is a scene you belong to, not just a class in the diary.
Out in the Scene
Battle-Ready
Comfortable across the styles, unflustered when a battle starts, and stitching your own combinations together — the invention this culture rates over anything else.
What's Next
The jam and battle nights around Leeds, our own competitions to have a crack at, or throwing yourself fully into whichever style ended up picking you.
Street Dance in Leeds FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Where in Leeds are the street dance classes held? +
They run at partner studios around the city centre, the Call Lane and Corn Exchange quarter, and out towards Chapel Allerton, with kids' groups spread wider across the city. Every one is a short walk from Leeds station, and the exact address lands with you the moment you sign up.
How much do street dance classes cost in Leeds? +
A drop-in is £8, with nothing to join and no contract pinning you down — you just turn up. Cheaper blocks appear once your nearest studio has locked in its weekly timetable.
Do I need any experience to start? +
None needed. Every session starts on the bounce, a groove anyone can find within a few minutes, and grows out from there. In a beginners' class the people who have never danced are the clear majority, not the exception.
What should I wear to street dance? +
Loose clothes you can throw shapes in and flat trainers with a bit of give underfoot. Beyond that this is a culture that runs on individuality, so genuinely, turn up looking however feels most like you.
What ages do you teach? +
Adult sessions cover 17 to 75, with separate teen classes for 15–16s and two children's bands, 9–14 and 6–8, every one led by DBS-checked coaches. Put your age on the enquiry form and we will steer you to the right session.
How is street dance different from your hip-hop classes? +
Think of street as the broad umbrella, cycling through popping, locking, house, breaking and more across a term. The hip-hop class, by contrast, drills right into hip-hop's own grooves, party steps and set routines. Plenty of people do both and reckon they feed each other.
Will I get to learn breaking? +
You will. Top rock, footwork, freezes and go-downs all show up in the breaking weeks, next to house, popping and locking. If it gets its hooks in you, the Leeds jam circuit is the obvious next move and we will point you at it.
What makes Leeds good for street dance? +
Simple: it already dances. This is one of Britain's biggest gig and going-out cities, the one Kaiser Chiefs pinned 'I Predict a Riot' to, with a vast student crowd on top. That restless, sociable, live-music streak suits funk, house and hip-hop down to the ground.
Do you bring street dance to schools and venues around Leeds? +
We can — our travelling crew takes school assemblies, kids' parties and youth-club workshops right across West Yorkshire, out to Bradford, Wakefield and Huddersfield. Pop your venue on the enquiry form and we will handle the rest.
