Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Loosen & Sparkle
Easy rib slides, shoulder rolls and a lazy pulse to put the working day down and switch on the playful, in-charge mood the whole style runs on.
Signature Moves
Bumps, grinds, shimmies and the unhurried peel of a glove, each one pulled apart on its own so it lands with intent rather than in a hurry.
The Tease & the Timing
Held eye contact, the cheeky pause and the play of a fan or boa — the theatre underneath the moves that makes burlesque an act and not a routine.
Building the Number
Threading the moves into a short piece set to swing, sultry jazz or a modern pop track, arranged so every level in the room stays together.
In Character, Top to Tail
One run of the whole thing fully committed and in persona, then a proper stretch and a laugh about which moments hit hardest.
About Burlesque Classes in Leeds
Burlesque is theatre first and choreography second — the craft of owning a room with carriage, comic timing and a slow, deliberate reveal. It has always treated every shape as a stage shape, which is a large part of why it fills a class. In a city that gets dressed up to go out as readily as Leeds does, the appetite for a bit of real stagecraft runs deep.
We teach behind closed doors at partner studios around the city centre and the Corn Exchange quarter, with the precise room handed to you when you book. The space is private and the only audience is the mirror in front of you, so the nerves people carry in rarely outlast the warm-up.
Said plainly: the clothes stay on. What you are learning is the walk, the wink and the wit, danced in whatever makes you feel a million dollars. Every age from 17 up is welcome and every body with it, all genders included, and plenty of groups book in before an afternoon that finishes on Call Lane or Greek Street.

Why Choose Burlesque in Leeds?
Confidence You Take Home
The poise and self-command you build under the studio lights do not switch off at the door — dancers tell us the mirror clocks it first, then everyone around them does.
The Craft of the Tease
The pause, the wink and the perfectly late reveal are stagecraft you can learn, and they quietly turn up in job interviews, first dates and any room you would rather command.
Feathers and Fans in Time
Gloves, a fan and a boa come into play once the basics settle — the golden-age toolkit, brought in at a pace that never once rushes you.
Built for Every Body
The whole form was founded on the notion that every figure belongs on a stage. No shape, no age and no lack of experience will ever be held against you in this room.
Your Burlesque Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Finding the Attitude
Getting Started
Unhurried walks, hip sways and the loose, watchable posture that makes a room look up. We are chasing control and cheek here, not a flawless finish.
What to Wear
Whatever you feel wonderful moving in — leggings and a vest do the job. Bring a heel if the mood takes you, but trainers are completely welcome.
Layering It Up
Technique
Glove peels, shimmies and bumps strung into short sequences, each one carrying a scrap of story so the moves mean something.
Your Character
Begin sketching a stage self — a name, a mood, a way of moving across the floor that reads as unmistakably yours.
Owning the Room
Full Routines
Longer numbers that bring in props, using the whole floor and steering where an audience looks with nothing but timing.
Stage Craft
The tease, the comic beat and how a track gets cut to fit a number — the finish that lifts steps into a genuine act.
Into the Spotlight
Optional Showcase
A supported slot on a cabaret night for anyone who catches the bug — entirely voluntary, entirely at the pace that suits you.
Your Own Act
Shaping a solo of your own, with your own choreography, music and styling — the moment a student quietly becomes a performer.
Burlesque in Leeds FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Whereabouts in Leeds do the burlesque classes run? +
At partner studios around the city centre and the Corn Exchange quarter, in a private, closed room rather than anywhere on show. The exact address lands with you once you register, and every studio is a short walk from Leeds station — the busiest in the North outside Manchester.
What does a burlesque class in Leeds cost? +
A drop-in is £8, settled on the night, with no membership and nothing to sign. Discounted block bookings will follow as soon as your nearest studio settles into a regular weekly slot.
Does anything actually come off? +
No — and nobody in the room removes a stitch. The lesson is dance and theatre: carriage, timing and cheek, with the styling stopping firmly at gloves, a fan and a knowing look over one shoulder.
Do I need any dance experience to start? +
None whatsoever. Every move is broken down slowly from the first walk, and the great majority of any beginners room has never taken a burlesque class before. You bring the willingness; we bring the rest.
What should I wear to a burlesque class? +
Anything that makes you feel good and lets you move — leggings and a top are the usual pick. A heel sharpens the line if you fancy one, but plenty dance in trainers and no special footwear is ever required to begin.
Is there an age or body limit? +
Neither exists here. Adults right across 17 to 75 come through the door, every figure included — burlesque is the most body-diverse corner of dance, and the art works because of who you are rather than in spite of it.
Will I ever be made to perform? +
Only if you choose to. Most dancers come purely for themselves and never once step onto a stage; those who want the lights get a fully supported, optional showcase route whenever they decide they are ready.
Can men come to burlesque classes in Leeds? +
Yes — our Leeds classes are open to all genders. Boylesque has been part of the art from the start, and the room is mixed, easy-going and completely free of judgement.
Can you run a burlesque class for a hen party in Leeds? +
We can, and it is a favourite. A private burlesque routine makes a brilliant hen afternoon before the group heads out to Call Lane or Greek Street — pop your numbers and date on the form and we will arrange it.
