Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Flat Warm-Up
The first ten minutes stay in trainers: mobilising the joints, conditioning the calves and ankles, setting the posture. It's the least showy part of the hour and the one that keeps the heel safe, so it never gets skipped.
The Walk
The strut gets its own slot — leading from the hip, rolling weight through the foot, holding that unbroken line from sole to crown that every heels number is built around.
Learning the Routine
A commercial-leaning number set to a chart or club track, taught in short phrases and pitched to whatever height you've chosen to work in that day.
Switching On the Attitude
The performance layer goes over the top: angles thrown out front, controlled drops, the look that sells the whole thing. A step becomes a statement the moment you decide where to aim it.
All-Out, Then Recover
One full-commitment run to the track, then an easy cool-down that looks after the calves and ankles carrying the load.
About Heels Classes in Edinburgh
Heels is commercial choreography danced up on a heel — a confident walk, clean lines and pure attitude, all of it driven by balance rather than by the height of the shoe. It's performance as much as movement, turning ordinary steps into presence. The heel is the costume; the control underneath is the real skill.
It fits Edinburgh, a city organised around the night out. The same George Street and Cowgate crowd that fills the bars fills these classes, and with four universities in town the room runs young and lively. A festival city is never short of a stage, and heels is a style that badly wants one.
The heel itself is patient. Beginners spend their opening weeks flat, in trainers, learning the moves while quietly building the ankle strength the shoe will later ask for — technique before glamour, every time. Everyone belongs here: all genders, every level, any adult from 17 up, and not a flicker of judgement. Arrive by tram or train, the sensible move when there's a heel in your bag and a night ahead of you.

Why Choose Heels in Edinburgh?
A Walk You're Taught
Nobody is born with a commanding walk — it's balance, posture and timing, all of it learnable, and we start right down at the feet.
Ankles Looked After
The safeguards are baked in: flat warm-ups, routines scaled to your height, no stilettos for beginners. Your ankles, not the timetable, set the pace.
Every Gender, One Room
One routine, one mixed floor, everybody on it. Heels was never for women only; it asks for attitude and nothing more.
Straight Into the Evening
The payoff is instant and portable — an early class, then the strut carried right out onto George Street for the night.
Your Heels Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Flat and Steady
Getting Started
Grooves, posture and the walk, all done in trainers while your ankles quietly toughen up — exactly why we begin flat.
Kit
Leggings or joggers, a top with some give, trainers. Only bring a heel you already trust, and only once you've decided you want it.
Up on the Heel
Technique
A block heel comes out for parts of the class; you refine the walk and stack your weight so the shoe works with you rather than against you.
First Routines
Short commercial numbers with real bite, always set to a height you can genuinely hold that week.
Owning the Floor
Bigger Numbers
Longer routines with level changes and floor moments, danced with clean facings and an imagined crowd out front.
Your Attitude
The presence that marks a heels dancer out — the gap between performing the steps and running the room.
Fully Sure
Perform
Filmed clips and showcase slots for the keen; for everyone else, simply the gutsiest hour on the schedule.
What's Next
Improver heels, a crossover into commercial, or gathering a group for a hen edition.
Heels in Edinburgh FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Do I have to wear heels from the first class? +
No — almost everyone starts in trainers. The early weeks build the walk, the posture and the foot strength on flat ground, and moving up into the shoe happens when you decide you're ready, never before.
Is this a women-only class? +
Not in the slightest. Heels in Edinburgh is open to every gender and the room shows it — mixed, warm and easy-going. The style grew out of club and stage culture that always made space for everyone.
Do I need any dancing experience? +
None. It's all taught from the floor up, a piece at a time, and the beginners room assumes nothing at all. If you can walk, you've got everything you need to start.
Is it genuinely safe for my ankles? +
Yes, when it's coached properly — which is the whole reason we warm up flat, condition the ankles first and scale every routine to your own height. Nobody is sent up in a heel their body hasn't earned yet, and those early flat weeks exist precisely to build the strength and balance that keep the shoe safe once it finally comes out.
What do I wear besides the shoes? +
Leggings or joggers and a top you can sweat in, plus water. Knee pads pull their weight once floor moments turn up, but for a first class you need nothing beyond that.
Which heels should I buy later on? +
When the time comes, a block heel with an ankle strap is the one to get — secure, and far kinder than a brand-new stiletto. A dependable heeled ankle boot does the job too; leave anything wobbly at home.
Where in Edinburgh do the classes run? +
At city-centre partner studios, minutes from the George Street bars and the Cowgate. The exact room lands with your booking, and the tram plus Waverley and Haymarket all set you down close by.
How much does it cost? +
£8 to drop in, paid on the night, with nothing to sign and nobody to join. Discounted blocks arrive once your local studio settles on a weekly time.
Can we book a heels hen party in Edinburgh? +
Yes — it's a favourite warm-up before a night around George Street. Send your date and group size on the form and we'll hold a studio for you or travel out to reach you instead.
