Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Warm-Up & Isolations

A quick pulse-raiser rolls straight into isolations — the head, chest and hips learning to move one at a time. It is the control that keeps commercial looking crisp rather than frantic.

10–25 mins

Learn It Quick

We hand you short phrases at speed and ask for them back from memory. Grabbing choreography fast is the real job of a commercial dancer, and it is a muscle we train every week.

25–40 mins

The Track & The Combo

A routine set to something currently charting, built count by count in the style of the video it came from — angles, levels and plenty of attack, layered so every level keeps up.

40–50 mins

Clean It Up

The pass that matters: where the accents bite, which count your eyes catch, where the movement softens. Ten minutes here is the gap between neat and professional.

50–60 mins

Perform & Film

Small groups run it for the rest of the class, and if the mood is right we grab a phone-filmed take — optional always, and for most people the highlight of the hour.

About Commercial Classes in Bristol

Commercial is the dance you already know off a screen — the front-facing, sharply performed choreography of chart videos, tours and TV. The craft is speed and polish: pick a routine up quickly, hit it clean, sell it to a camera. That is precisely what class trains, week in, week out.

And Bristol is a fitting place to train it. This is a real music city — the birthplace of trip-hop and a cradle of British drum & bass, from Massive Attack and Portishead to Mercury-winner Roni Size. Classes run in Stokes Croft, the street-art heart of it all, with two universities feeding a young, hungry dance scene.

The teachers do this for a living — shoots and tours in the day, counts passed on by night. Skip the car: the Clean Air Zone bills older vehicles nine pounds just to enter, and Temple Meads sits minutes from the centre. Nobody needs experience; the room mixes first-timers with trained dancers keeping their pick-up match-fit.

Why Choose Commercial in Bristol?

Looks Like the Video

Everything is built for a front and a lens — the clean hits and the attitude that make the routine read like the thing you have been rewatching on your phone.

Learn to Learn Fast

Fast pick-up is the skill that outlasts any single routine. Drill it here and every future class, audition and wedding dancefloor gets easier for good.

A Real Music City

You are rehearsing where Britain found a whole sound. Tracks are whatever is charting now, and the city around the studio has form for making music that matters.

Working Pros Up Front

Your teachers are booked dancers carrying the actual standards of the industry — into a class that is, genuinely, designed to take someone from a standing start.

Your Commercial Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Week 1–4

Get the Counts

Getting Started

Isolations, grooves and your first proper pick-ups. Confidence and energy come before clean lines — we want you dancing, not counting under your breath.

What to Wear

Grippy trainers, layers you can shed, and water. Add kneepads the week floorwork first turns up in the routine.

Month 2–3

Tighten Up

Pick-Up Speed

Phrases start landing on the second look and the muttered counting fades. Accents and dynamics move in, and the choreography begins to snap.

Sell It

You clock that the face does half the selling, and you shift from recalling the moves to genuinely performing them.

Month 4–6

Perform For Real

Full Routines

Longer, harder combos in groups, filmed when the room wants it, with polish on the small details a camera always picks up.

Build Range

Smooth grooves one week, hard-hitting the next — the versatility every commercial booking quietly expects.

Month 6+

Industry Pace

Advanced Practice

Quick pick-ups, dense routines and the assurance to walk into any drop-in class in the country and hold your own.

What Comes Next

Auditions, uni crews, our showcases — or just the fittest, most camera-ready shape you have been in.

Commercial in Bristol FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Where do the commercial classes run in Bristol? +

Partner studios in the centre and Stokes Croft, each a short walk or quick bus from Temple Meads. The exact room comes with your booking, so you are never stranded from a train home.

What does a commercial class cost in Bristol? +

Eight pounds a drop-in, on the door — no membership, no contract, nothing to cancel. Once your studio's weekly slot settles, discounted blocks come in.

Can a complete beginner keep up? +

Yes. The fast pick-up that looks intimidating is a trained skill, not a gift, and we build it with you from scratch. Beginners and returners share the floor every week.

What do I wear and bring? +

Trainers with grip, clothes you can sweat in, and a bottle of water. When routines start hitting the floor, kneepads earn a place in the bag.

What will the music be? +

Whatever is charting — the pop and R&B you already half-know from tours and your feed — in a city that helped shape British music. New releases feed straight into new routines.

How does commercial differ from street or hip-hop? +

Commercial is pop performance for camera and stage: polished, front-on, song-led. Street and hip-hop live in club and battle culture instead. Many Bristol dancers simply do all three.

Is there filming? +

Only if the group is keen. We sometimes film the closing run so you can see the progress — it never leaves the class, and stepping out of shot is always fine.

Can a group book a private commercial class? +

Yes — hen dos, birthdays and work socials all book private chart-routine sessions. Mention it on the form and we will build something around your group.

Bristol already has a dance site — why this one? +

Because this is Dance Centre UK, one network across 67 cities: upfront pricing, a real beginners' structure, and teaching that holds the same standard wherever you dance.
