Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Slow-Walk Warm-Up

Everything begins on your feet: a lengthened spine, easy shoulders and a deliberate, take-your-time walk. Ten minutes of it and the room has stopped fidgeting and started to enjoy itself.

10–25 mins

Move by Move

Glove peel, chair sit, shimmy, the glance over one shoulder — the signature moves arrive one at a time, each a small trick you bank now and combine however you like later on.

25–40 mins

Into a Number

The moves join up over a slow, brass-heavy track. You discover burlesque is mostly about what you withhold: the pause, the almost, the joke landed square on the beat.

40–50 mins

Your Stage Character

Pick a persona and wear it — vampish, comic, cool, whatever amuses you. The class turns into a generous audience while you road-test her at zero stakes.

50–60 mins

Run It & Unwind

One full pass at performance pace to a proper cheer, then a stretch that undoes what an hour of controlled, upright walking has quietly asked of you.

About Burlesque Classes in Bristol

Think theatre, not striptease — burlesque is a comic, glamorous performance art, and everything stays on from the first class to the last. Bristol, forever fond of a costume and an independent streak, slips into it happily. We base classes around the Old City and King Street, the cobbled tangle of old pubs and the cider barge moored on the water.

Studios sit in the centre and up in Stokes Croft, the mural-splashed creative quarter, with the precise room confirmed at booking. The train is the sensible arrival: Bristol's Clean Air Zone charges an older car nine pounds simply to reach the centre, and what parking there is comes tight and metered.

No one is ever asked to remove a thing, and no one is pushed further than they want to go on the night — you hold the dial. Most people beside you have never taken a dance class of any kind, so beginners are the standard here, and the whole point is walking out an inch taller than you walked in.

Why Choose Burlesque in Bristol?

A Performance, Fully Clothed

Burlesque here is character, timing and suggestion — a genuine stage skill. Nothing is removed, ever; the comedy and the glamour live entirely in the tease.

The Confidence Sticks

Ask a regular what they kept and it is rarely the choreography — it is the posture, the eye contact and the way they now walk into a room.

A Skill for a Night Out

It plays on a cabaret stage, at a hen do, or in your hallway mirror before a night on the Harbourside. Bristol dresses up; this is the class for it.

Come As You Are

Every age from 17 to 75, every body, every level of coordination. Applause is the loudest thing in the room, and there is not a competitive mirror-wall anywhere.

Your Burlesque Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Week 1–4

The Walk First

Getting Started

Posture, the unhurried walk and a couple of tease moves. Attitude beats accuracy at this stage, and most people are giggling before the first session is even halfway done.

What to Wear

Something stretchy — leggings or shorts and a fitted top — plus comfy heels if you have them, though bare feet or trainers do the job at first. A scarf to play with helps.

Month 2–3

A Bag of Tricks

Vocabulary

Fans, gloves and the chair stop feeling like props and start feeling like punctuation, and you learn to draw a reveal out rather than rush headlong at it.

A Character Emerges

You name a stage self and let her make a few choices — the costume of confidence that makes bigger, bolder movement feel oddly natural.

Month 4–6

Command a Room

Full Routines

Complete numbers with lighting and props, performed for a kind audience until the nerves quietly convert into something closer to a thrill.

Finishing Touches

Feathers, gloves and styling details give the steps a viewpoint — the difference between doing moves and telling a small, cheeky story.

Month 6+

Headliner

Advanced Craft

Solo numbers with real polish, comic timing you can rely on, and the nerve to sit inside a pause until the room leans your way.

What Comes Next

A cabaret showcase, a hen masterclass with the group, or just the most self-assured entrance in any bar on King Street.

Burlesque in Bristol FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Where in Bristol do the burlesque classes happen? +

Central partner studios and a base up in Stokes Croft, around the Old City and King Street. You get the address on booking, and each room sits a short walk or quick bus from Temple Meads.

What's the price of a burlesque class in Bristol? +

Eight pounds to drop in, paid one session at a time — no joining fee, no contract, nothing rolling out of your account. Block-booking discounts land once your studio's weekly slot is set.

I've never danced — is that a problem? +

Not in the slightest; it is the norm. The style is carried by a walk and a wink far more than by footwork, so newcomers find their feet quickly and rarely feel a step behind.

What do I wear and bring? +

Stretchy kit you can see your shape in — leggings or shorts and a fitted top — with comfy heels if you own a pair. Trainers or bare feet are fine early on, and a glove or scarf to toy with is a nice extra.

Do any clothes actually come off? +

None. We coach the tease as an act — the look, the timing, the character — and nothing is ever removed. It is playful, staged and stays comfortably PG from start to finish.

Is there an age or body type this suits? +

It suits all of them. Sessions run 17 to 75, and the art has celebrated every shape since the music-hall days; the confidence on offer is universal, which is rather the whole idea.

Could we book it for a hen party in Bristol? +

Absolutely — burlesque is among our most-booked hen sessions, and Bristol is a marquee hen city. Your group learns a playful routine in private; the burlesque hen party page spells out the flat rate.

Do I ever have to perform publicly? +

Never unless you choose to. Runs stay inside the class with everyone cheering, and there is no public show at the end. Many students come for the confidence alone and keep the moves at home.

What sets this apart from other Bristol burlesque classes? +

Prices are on the page, the beginners' pathway is fully mapped, and we are one of 67 city teams — so a consistent, welcoming class follows you whether you stay in Bristol or dance elsewhere.
