Get Loose, Find the Bounce
A moving warm-up that unlocks the knees, ankles and chest and settles you into the beat — the bounce and rock underneath every street style begin right here.
Style of the Week
Each week zooms in on one pillar — locking's snaps, popping's hits, breaking's top rock or house footwork — so across a month you meet the whole family.
Build the Combo
The week's moves get stacked into a short piece of choreography, set over funk, house or hip-hop breaks until it flows out of your body rather than your head.
Freestyle Lab
Guided improvisation games that teach you to move without a script — the thing that separates someone doing steps from someone who is genuinely dancing.
Circle Up & Stretch
An open, always-optional cypher to try your moves in front of a friendly room, cheered on by everyone, then a full stretch to finish the hour.
About Street Dance Classes in Sheffield
Street dance is the catch-all name for the styles born on dancefloors and in clubs rather than studios — popping, locking, breaking, house and beyond. Our street dance classes in Sheffield cycle through them all, led by working dancers off the local scene, so you meet every branch before choosing where to specialise. Kids, teens and adults all have their place here.
There is a reason street feels at home in Sheffield: this is the city that handed Britain synth-pop and the bleep-techno sound, from the Human League and Cabaret Voltaire to the Warp Records crew who took Yorkshire bass around the world. A city that has always danced to machines makes a fitting home for funk, house and hip-hop styles.
Everyone starts from zero here, with a bounce anyone can find; prior training is not required at all. The studios sit around the city centre and Kelham Island, a short walk or single Supertram stop from Sheffield station. Turn up in trainers and clothing you can move freely in.

Why Choose Street Dance in Sheffield?
Danced in the Home of Electronic
Sheffield gave Britain synth-pop and the bleep-techno sound Warp Records sent worldwide. Street dance here is taught in a city that has always moved to machines and bass.
The Whole Umbrella
Popping, locking, house and breaking each get their turn across a term, letting you taste every branch of the street family before you commit to just one.
Kids, Teens and Adults
Sessions split by age from six upward, each led by DBS-checked coaches — it is our most-booked children's class, and one where anxious adults feel just as at ease.
A Student-City Scene
Two big universities keep Sheffield's street scene young, busy and beginner-friendly, with jams and battles to step into whenever you fancy watching or joining in.
Your Street Dance Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Into the Groove
Getting Started
Bounce and rock drills, then an early go at top rock and some locking. We chase rhythm and confidence first; clean lines can wait their turn.
What to Wear
Trackies or joggers, a t-shirt and cushioned, flat trainers. Comfort wins; the culture loves personal style, so dress however feels like you.
Trying On Styles
Foundations
Digging deeper into locking, popping, house and breaking, working out what each demands from you — and which of them your body takes to most naturally.
First Freestyle
Structured improvisation drills grow the courage to dance off-script — the gateway skill the entire style quietly rests on.
Your Own Signature
Finding a Voice
More sustained freestyles, tougher routines and the earliest signs of a movement voice that reads as yours and no one else's.
Belonging
At home in the cypher now, and genuinely one of the crew — street dance is a scene you join, not just a weekly lesson you attend.
In the Scene
Battle-Ready
Fluent across the styles, composed when a battle kicks off, and stitching your own combinations together — the invention this culture rewards above all.
What's Next
Sheffield's jam and battle nights, our own competitions, or going all-in on whichever style ended up claiming you.
Street Dance in Sheffield FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Where in Sheffield are the street dance classes held? +
Sessions run at partner studios around the city centre and Kelham Island, with children's groups reaching further out across Sheffield. Each one sits a brief walk or a single Supertram hop from the centre, and you get the precise address the moment you sign up.
How much do street dance classes cost in Sheffield? +
Each drop-in is £8, with no membership and no contract tying you in — simply come along. Discounted blocks open up once your local studio settles its weekly timetable.
Do I need any experience to start? +
Not a scrap. We open every session on the bounce — a groove anyone can find within minutes — and build outward from that. In a starter class, newcomers who have never danced are the clear majority.
What should I wear to street dance? +
Loose clothing you can throw shapes in, plus cushioned trainers with flat soles. After that, this is a culture that prizes individuality — so dress however feels most like you.
What ages do you teach? +
The main adult sessions run 17 through 75, with dedicated teen sessions for 15–16s and two children's bands, one covering 9–14s and another for ages 6–8, all led by DBS-checked coaches. Tell us your age on the enquiry form and we will match you to the right class.
How is street dance different from your hip-hop classes? +
Think of street as the umbrella — it cycles through popping, locking, house, breaking and the rest across the term. The hip-hop class narrows in on hip-hop's own grooves, party steps and set choreography. Many people take both and treat them as complementary.
Will I get to learn breaking? +
Absolutely. Top rock, footwork, freezes and go-downs all feature in the breaking weeks, sitting alongside house, popping and locking. If it becomes your thing, the city's jam circuit is the obvious next step, and we will send you there.
Why does Sheffield suit street dance? +
It is a city that has always danced to machines — the Human League, Cabaret Voltaire and the Warp Records bleep-techno sound were all born here. That electronic, bass-heavy heritage is a fitting backdrop for funk, house and hip-hop styles.
Do you bring street dance to schools and venues around Sheffield? +
We do — our travelling crew runs school assemblies, kids' parties and youth-club workshops right across South Yorkshire, from Rotherham to Doncaster. Drop your venue into the enquiry form and we will sort out the rest.
