Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Walk & Posture Warm-Up

Shoulders back, chin up and a slow strut across the studio — the burlesque walk is the foundation of everything, and it starts working on your confidence within minutes.

10–25 mins

Classic Vocabulary

Shimmies, bumps, grinds and the famous glove peel, broken down move by move. This is vintage showgirl technique — fully clothed, endlessly cheeky.

25–40 mins

The Routine

The session's moves stitched into a short, sassy sequence set to big-band or modern burlesque tracks, learned in easy chunks with plenty of repetition.

40–50 mins

Performance Polish

Eye lines, timing and the pause that makes a tease a tease — the theatrical layer that turns steps into a performance.

50–60 mins

Low-Light Run & Cool-Down

The routine danced together with the lights dimmed — reliably the room's favourite ten minutes — followed by a gentle stretch to finish.

About Burlesque Classes in London

Soho kept British burlesque alive when the rest of the country forgot about it, and its cabaret rooms still set the standard. Our burlesque classes in London sit right inside that tradition: classic tease technique — walks, glove work, fans and attitude — taught in a closed studio by teachers who know the capital's stage scene, with no audience anywhere in sight.

We teach at partner studios inside Zones 1 and 2, with Soho and Shoreditch as our regular bases and every venue a few minutes' walk from the tube. That matters for this style: most students come straight from the office, dance for an hour, and are home before they have finished choosing a stage name.

One thing deserves saying plainly — nothing comes off. Burlesque as we teach it is theatre: posture, humour and timing, performed in whatever you feel great wearing. The confidence people arrive hoping to find usually turns up somewhere around week three, and it does not stay behind when class ends.

Why Choose Burlesque in London?

Everything Stays On

This is tease as theatre — glove peels, timing and attitude, never undressing. What you wear in is what you leave in, every single week.

Confidence Comes First

The routines are the vehicle; walking taller is the destination. Most students notice the class paying off outside the studio within a month.

Soho on the Doorstep

Learn minutes from the cabaret rooms that made British burlesque famous — then go and watch the professionals once you catch the bug.

A Closed, Kind Room

No windows onto the street, no phones out, no spectators — just a supportive group who all felt exactly this nervous at their own first class.

Your Burlesque Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Week 1–4

Find the Walk

Getting Started

The burlesque walk, basic shimmies and your first glove peel. Expect giggles, wobbles and a surprising amount of posture correction.

What to Bring

Clothes you feel good in, plus any heel you can walk in confidently — though flats are honestly fine for the first month.

Month 2–3

Build the Vocabulary

Classic Technique

Bumps, grinds, fan basics and floor poses stack up week by week until the vintage vocabulary starts feeling like it belongs to you.

The Confidence Shift

Somewhere in these weeks the nerves flip into anticipation — the moment nearly every student mentions when they look back.

Month 4–6

Own the Room

Longer Routines

Full-length routines with chair work and prop choices, performed for the class during the low-light run each week.

Your Persona

A stage name, a signature move, a favourite era — burlesque invites you to build a character, and this is usually when she arrives.

Month 6+

Showgirl Standard

Advanced Practice

Fan dances, feather boas and routines you help design — plus the option of our student showcases if an audience ever appeals.

The London Scene

Soho's cabaret calendar becomes your homework: watch the working performers regularly and borrow from them shamelessly.

Burlesque in London FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Where in London do the burlesque classes take place? +

Our home turf is Soho and Shoreditch — partner studios in Zones 1 and 2, each a short walk from a tube stop. You get the exact address when you register, and private group sessions can travel to venues in any borough.

How much is a burlesque class in London? +

£8 for a drop-in, and that is the whole arrangement — no contract, no membership, no joining fee. Discounted blocks will follow once your local studio's regular slot is confirmed.

Do I have to take any clothes off? +

No — and since this is the question we hear most, let us be completely plain: nothing comes off, ever. Burlesque in class is the theatre of the tease — gloves, timing, attitude — and what you wear in is what you wear home.

I have never danced before — will I cope? +

Comfortably. Burlesque is built from walks, poses and simple isolations rather than technical steps, which makes it one of the easiest styles to start from zero. Most of the beginners' room has never taken a dance class of any kind.

What should I wear to a burlesque class? +

Whatever makes you feel fantastic — leggings and a t-shirt work as well as anything vintage. Heels are optional (a low block heel if so), and long gloves are usually available to borrow at the studio.

Is burlesque only for women? +

Not at all — boylesque is a thriving corner of the London scene, and our classes welcome all genders. The technique is identical for everyone; the attitude is personal.

Am I the wrong age or body type for this? +

There is no wrong body in burlesque — the art form has celebrated every shape for a century, and London's stages prove it weekly. Our adult classes run from 17 to 75.

Will I ever have to perform in public? +

Only if you choose to. Classes are private, phones stay away, and while student showcases exist for those who want a stage down the line, performing is an invitation — never an expectation.

Can you run a burlesque class for my hen party in London? +

Gladly — burlesque is one of our most-requested hen themes in the capital, and we come to you at any venue or accommodation within the M25. Just mention the occasion on the enquiry form.
