Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

First 10 min

The walk, weighted

Slow, deliberate walking with intent — silly for three minutes, then suddenly the most powerful thing in the room.

10–25 min

Vocabulary hour

Shimmies, bumps, sways and poses learned unhurried — the classic kit every routine assembles from.

25–40 min

Enter the props

Boa draped, fan snapped, chair leaned upon — handled until each reads as intended rather than improvised.

40–50 min

Persona and number

Characters chosen, and the moves stitched into a short act with an entrance, a build and a proper button on the end.

50–60 min

House lights down

The act performed as a company for an audience of nobody — which is precisely what makes everyone brave.

About Burlesque Classes in Lincoln

Rule one, stated plainly: nothing comes off. Burlesque as we teach it in Lincoln is stagecraft — the weighted walk, the pause held one beat past comfortable, the eyebrow doing more work than the choreography. It is closer to comic theatre than anything else on the timetable, and its practical output is a confidence that follows people out of the studio and into meetings, weddings and bus queues.

The teaching runs on character. Every dancer builds a stage persona — name, walk, attitude — and it is the persona who shimmies, poses and handles the props while the actual you watches from safety. Props are provided: boas, fans and a chair that gets treated with more drama than furniture usually receives.

The studio door is closed for the hour, the room is booked solely for the class, and the location is central Lincoln on the level Lower City side. Private group versions — the hen-party favourite — travel to venues across Lincolnshire, where farmhouse living rooms have hosted some career-best debuts.

Why Choose Burlesque in Lincoln?

The persona trick

Performing as an invented character bypasses stage fright with almost suspicious efficiency.

Timing as a life skill

The held pause and the landed beat transfer directly to presentations, punchlines and grand entrances.

Every age, every body

Burlesque has celebrated the full human range for a century — our room continues the tradition weekly.

£8, props included

Flat price with boas and fans supplied — the only thing you bring is willingness.

Your Burlesque Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

01

Permission granted

The walk lands

Weight and slowness read as confidence — learned first because everything else hangs off it.

The room laughs together

The first shared giggle dissolves the embarrassment, reliably inside week one.

02

Craft accumulates

Moves get clean, then funny

Technique first, comedy second — burlesque is both, in that order.

Eyes learn their lines

Where you look, and when you look away, carries half the performance.

03

Character work

A persona takes shape

Name, walk, signature move — the invented self who does the daring on your behalf.

Props obey

Fan and boa graduate from hazards to punctuation marks.

04

The act

A number with an arc

Entrance, tease, wink, finale — a complete performance you own, whether or not it ever leaves the studio.

Confidence, exported

The self-possession stops being borrowed from the character and starts showing up unannounced in daily life.

Burlesque in Lincoln FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Does clothing come off in this class? +

No — everyone stays fully dressed throughout, every week. The class teaches burlesque's theatre: character, timing, props and confidence. That is the whole offer, and it is plenty.

Who is the class for? +

Adults 18 and up of every age, gender, shape and confidence level. The shyest arrivals are historically the biggest converts — the persona does the heavy lifting.

Is the studio private? +

Completely — the door is closed, the room is booked for us alone, and nobody sees the routine except the people learning it.

What does a session cost? +

£8 flat on the night, with boas and fans provided for class use. No block bookings or memberships.

Where in Lincoln is it held? +

Central Lincoln on the Lower City side — level walking from the High Street and station. The exact studio arrives with your booking.

What should I wear? +

Whatever makes you feel good and lets you move — plus shoes you can pivot in. A low heel if you like; trainers are equally respectable.

Can we book burlesque privately for a hen party? +

It is one of the most-booked hen themes we run — private sessions travel across Lincoln and Lincolnshire with one flat group price. The Lincoln burlesque hen page has the details.

I am deeply un-theatrical. Is this wasted on me? +

You are the target demographic. The craft is taught step by tiny step, the persona absorbs the embarrassment, and un-theatrical people produce the most satisfying transformations on record.

How do I book? +

The form on this page — a name and a contact. We respond within one working day with the next session's details.
